Never fear, GRaD is still here...

This is just OOC thread 2, which I assure you is quite operational... ;)

Bring on the insanity...

This message has been brought to you by pointless rambling, the letters 'R' and 'C' and a substantial grant from the United States Government.

I'm just thinking, as a point of reference, that we should re-post all the essentials (character and NPC stats & lists, ship index) again here, as some of us hate webpages. With a passion. Like you wouldn't believe. May their electronic souls be condemned to the filing systems of Microsoft!

On a more or less serious note, I hate paperwork. That is all.

Hey guys....I actually got a post up. Lucky me, huh? Well, just to let you guys know, the post will be treated as a "player post."

What I mean by that is that you should not post a second time before reliant posts the GM post for the night. Until the OJ settles down, my posts will prolly all be treated this way.

It was good to get a chance to post. I'll be poking back in soon.

Oops, I just posted another post in the IC.

Okay, scottyboy told me he wasn't able to post to day and asked me to do it for him.

So it wasn't really me who posted, it was scottyboy... sort of... :D

Ardent,
I think it would be a good idea to repost the stats, since OOC1 will drop down. Although I recommend that only the latest version of any particular stat go in here. In other Words, only your updated Wampa stats--which I appreciate--& only the leveled-up stats (if applicable) for pc's.

Edit: Since the holonet is not fond of re-posting--which I understand, since it takes up space--here are links to the posted info that hasn't changed. Note, however that the Striker designations here are the current ones.

2nd Lieutenant Arrin "Firebird" ToReen, "Striker 5," Two Flight Lead

Arrin ToReen, who only answers to the nickname Firebird (given during her training), is one of the few women amongst the TIE pilots. She grew up in an undersea colony on the Inner Rim ocean-world of Typhora. Unlike most future pilots, Firebird's flight daydreams took place in a temperamental retired research mini-sub, rather than a landspeeder or Headhunter.

Like many young people who wanted to leave their homeworld, she found the Academy attractive. With so many applicants, the girl had trouble getting accepted, even with high scores--possibly because some of the Typhora colonies were non-human.

Then Ledrik Vaal paid a visit. This kindly youngish cousin of her mother's was the proverbial "black nerf of the family." All his life, they had said he was "strange" or "off in a fantasy world." Nevertheless, he now held an important title, Inquisitor, & so was welcomed. No one in Typhora seemed to know what Inquistors did except that they often reported to the beloved Emperor, & so Arrin figured Ledrik should be able to get her the appointment she wanted.

Ledrik was impressed by Arrin & only too happy to help. After looking over her scores & aptitude results, he suggested that starfighter pilot might suit her & arranged for her to take that track at the Academy. Much to Arrin's delight, she enjoyed outer space even more than inner space. She was one of the TIE pilots to survive the dogfights during the Rebel assault on Death Star I.

Ledrik continued to take an interest in the young pilot, sometimes inviting her to spend leaves at 1 or the other of his estates & even bring along friends. Shortly before the Endor victory, it was Ledrik who took time away from his important duties to bring her the sad news that a terrible plague had ran through the Typhora undersea colonies, killing most of the colonists.

But it was her flying skills, not Ledrik's influence, that earned her a slot in the Strikers. She enjoyed the camaraderie of the squadron & admired Matt Solarite.

When the squadron was ordered to test their new equipment on unarmed targets, Firebird stood her ground with the squadron--although Ledrik tried to "persuade" her to testify against her CO & wingmates. Firebird had never seen her cousin in a vicious mood. She was so shocked, she imagined him yelling in her mind not her ears & other odd things as he tried to persuade her. Firebird somehow managed to elude Vaal & rejoin the Strikers just before they deserted. While she told Col. Solarite about Vaal confronting her & most of what he said (which helped confirm the squadron's choice), she did not describe how she couldn't seem to think straight.

From her first days in the squadron, Firebird was friends with the Flight Surgeon Fayl Lyris. After the squadron fled, Dr. Lyris, who was later killed, finding his resources much more limited, talked his friend into letting him train her as an assistant. Although she doesn't much care for the work, she recognizes the need.

Knowing the Strikers' last assignment & what she has heard of happening on other worlds, Firebird now suspects that the plague that decimated the Typhora colonies was deliberately spread as a trial of some bioagent--possibly because the population included many amphibious aliens.

Firebird has dark strawberry-blonde hair, honey-colored skin, & hazel eyes. Firebird is not tall--at ~ 5' 1", she is barely minimal height for a TIE pilot (& might have been rejected for the training, if not for Vaal's influence.) She is a skillled & daring pilot who simply loves flying & still has a sense of wonder about space. She can be headstrong & over eager. She will engage in races & similar contests when she thinks she can get away with it. Firebird was originally a little uneasy around her new comrades, but soon realized they are much like her & is now friendly with them--& usually trying to convince them her beloved TIE is the superior fighter.

During ground missions, Firebird takes the role of Medic & will also usually be detailed to handle or assist underwater ops due to her background.

Lieutenant J.G, Dr. Nadia Angelus

Dr. Nadia Angelus was a briliant Arkanian geneticist who once worked for the Imperial scientific community. She parted ways six years earlier in disasterous circumstances when she refused to apply her work to the Imperials bio-terrorism plans against non-human species; her husband, a fellow Imperial geneticist, and two-year-old son were executed in an attempt to break her resistance.

She spoke only once of her previous life- and then only to Captain Dirk Draygo to make her reasoning to joining the crew explicitly clear- when she agreed to join the Wandering Wampa as the head of the ship's doctor. Dr. Angelus eagerly jumped at the opportunity to become a thorn in the Imperials back as well as a chance to practice her profession with relative peace. She was one of the first recruited officers of the Wandering Wampa and has been a proud member since she joined its crew.

Dr. Nadia Angelus runs the medical bay with strict procedures and deft care to her charges. Though she tends to be strict with her patients and insufferably arrogaunt about her abilities, it is obvious that Dr. Angelus cares for the patients under her watchful eye. She has been known to wait in the medical bay for three days straight with neither rest nor sustenance as she awaited a critical patient's status to improve. But she has also been known to physically toss out incompetent Midshipman and Ensigns, forever banning them from entering the medical bay until Captain Draygo has assuaged her anger.

Dr. Angelus, alike all Arkaniens, has the trademark white eyes of her species and elegant fingers on her four fingered hands. Although her eyes normally are warm and gentle, at times they glow with a cold fire that has been known to shake even the strongest willed. She normally wears the uniform of the Wandering Wampa with a pristene white lab coat over it, her shapely body enhancing the uniform to its fullest extent. Her hair is a feathery white that she braids in thin strips above the ears and wraps loosely around the rest of her free flowing hair.

Dr. Nadia Angelus: Female Arkanian Tech Specialist 3/ Soldier 1; Int: +2 (Dex); Defense: +16 (+4 class, +2 Dex); Spd: 10m; VP/WP: 33/ 16; Atk: +5 melee or +5 ranged; SQ: Darkvision 20m, Research; SV: Fort: +5, Ref +3, Will +7; SZ M; Rep+1; Str 14, Dex 14, Con 16, Int 20, Wis 17, Cha 10.

2nd Lieutenant Loki, Special Ops

Growing up quick as a child of the streets Loki quickly learned about the shadier part of the galaxy. He was an adept pickpocket and as his criminal years went on he became more refined and sophisticated. When he first left Davaron he had little money and ended up on the backwater planet known as Tatooine.

It was in Mos Eisley he truly understood the importance of information and how much it was worth to others. Loki began to meet everyone and develops contacts with them. When they arrived they would pay for information on who was in town, what cargos were legit, and other random facts. Loki often would do them a favor as well to keep them coming back. One such favor landed him in the hands of Arik Neveir, a smuggler for the Black Sun. Loki was only 14 when he joined up with Arik, but his devilish appearance always fooled people. Arik taught Loki all about flying and it was apparent that Loki had quite a knack for it. It was not long before Arik was trusting Loki to fly the Wayward by himself. Arik also began to train Loki in some combat skills such as martial arts and shooting. Again these were things that Loki took to very quickly. For the next three years Loki worked with Arik and traveled the galaxy. He made contacts all over and soon was making a good name for himself on many levels. People came to him for information, thefts, smuggling runs, and so forth.

Eventually Loki left Arik to do his own thing. Despite there not working together over the course of the next few years the two friends met constantly and told tales of lunacy and stupidity. Mostly tales of the jobs they did. Loki could not have been happier, he was doing well and he strife that was afflicting the galaxy had not touched him. Then everything changed in one devastating moment. Arik Neveir had been killed by the Empire. Arik Neveir the man whom had been like a brother and father to him. Loki spent the next few months planning a way to get back at the Empire when a contact of his told him of a ship called the Wandering Wampa. Apparently, an old acquaintance of Loki’s ran part of the ship, the one and only Dirk Draygo. It did not take Loki long before he got in touch with Dirk and before he found himself onboard the Wampa.

Hey, I was reading through the GRaD thread and it sounds interesting to me. Any chance that I could join? If so, what do I do to join, (and other assorted newbie questions, yadda yadda yadda).

Corr Terek, if you are interested in joining, just PM Reliant, our active GM, with a brief PC concept. When he ok's it, he'll tell you how to send him the complete writeup--stats & backstory. As soon as Reliant ok's the writeup, you'll post it in this thread & can then start playing.

Iif you are interested in a "snub jock" (starfighter pilot) PC, it's a little different & slightly easier. We have 4 NPC pilots available to be adopted by players. 3 of them have complete write-ups.Links to them can be found in post #6. The 4th, Sorummb, is a male Sollustan recruited from the Wampa's security contingent. If any of them appeal, just tell Reliant.

Anyway, due to current RL issues (and the fact that I'm trying to finish a submission for the OJ as well) AND the upcoming holidays, I think we should go on break until after New Years.

Hello, all. I hate to ask this since some of you have been waiting eagerly for a new post to reply to.

Unless your pc is on the Wampa,
please hold off on replying to Axius' post until I can get with one of the GM's, as well as a player.

I have some serious issues with how another player used my pc in a post today. There was far more than "casual interaction" with my character--she was taking major actions which I had no intentions of her doing.

Also, please be mindful, I do not think the player did it intentionally.

Thanks again, all, for understanding,

Happy Dec. 26th! ;) I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday & got at least a few SW-style sugarplums!

If you're reading this, you've probably seen my IC "gift" from Reliant & Axius. :( It was very hard for me to read Axius' GM post--& even harder for me to write my player post. (I've been seriously re-considering my offer above to make a ryshcate for Axius...) And I'm sure I'll have a few other hard posts to write.

Just for the record, I had no input on what was going to happen or how. I was warned ahead of time that it would not be pretty...

I do have tentative plans for how Arrin will deal with things (depending on how others react); many of them already known to the GM's. If you need to know for your post how she will react to your pc (or a minor npc you are using), just PM me. Or you can make your post so I can reply/react in mine.

Ris,

I've only had a chance to skim the posts recently (since Axius'), but I shall read them today and hopefully post tomorrow. Just one thing I want to know now: did Arrin kill Matt, or did she just seriously hurt him. (I guess if you guys want it to be sort of hush hush, then PM me and let me know what I should have Nadia do. I don't want to announce Matt dead and have Axius wanting him to survive :) )

On the other hand, Christmas was pretty good. If any of you are into a kind of twisted shooting game, then try finding the Stitch Experiment 626 game for PS2- there's something to be said about a cute blue puff ball laughing maniacally while shooting four blasters at once. (And it has no animated blood or anything like that... although for little kids, I'd suggest Kingdom Hearts first for a kid to play...)

Go to www.liloandstitch.com They've got a great interactive website, and there's a Stitch desk top pal that you can download from their multimedia section. It's not extremely complicated, but your kids should love the crazy things he does...

Dragonseye, sound like things are starting out good for you guys. Thanks for the L & S tip. I'm sure the mini-padawans will love it. They do enjoy playing the kiddie online games.

And we likely will get a PS2 for the b-day. We've got a DVD player, but the remote is in a blackhole so it's hard to get into the extra stuff on the disks & my son really loves those. Plus we can get Jedi Starfighter for Mommy to play. :D (read crash &/or get vaped over & over--Mommy isn't nearly as good a snubjock as her PC 8o )

Any other game suggestions for them beside Kingdom Hearts?

dragonseye
2 January 2003, 08:09 AM
Ris,

One thing I can suggest Not getting would be the Grand Theft Auto games... they're not at all intended for little kids. Pretty much, I would try avoiding the rated M games, since most likely they have themes that are not very good for little kids to see... (and unfortunately those are the games that we own for the most part.)

The stitch Experiment 626 is pretty good; it has some complicated moves etc... but one very nice thing is that it has nearly infinite lives. Well, that and it has Stitch in it...

There's another game that Disney put out called something like PK Power Duck- I'm pretty sure that's what it's called. Basically, Donald Duck is a Super Hero who goes out fighting crime. The artwork isn't too bad, but I have only looked at the box. Never had a chance to play it yet.

There's another game called fur fighters- I believe it's a fighting game with teddy bears and other toys, but I could be wrong.

For the most part, it really depends on how old your children are, as well as their interests. The Tekken fighting games are violent, but for the most part there isn't a lot of blood (but there's still some.)

Mostly, I'd suggest looking at the raitings on the boxes, since they state the types of things that the game may have excess amounts of.

Medal of Honor is another good one, but it's very intense and may not be suitable for kids under 10- 12.

I hope that helps you out.

Ardent
2 January 2003, 09:52 AM
Uhhh...yeah. Don't buy GTA games for kids. In GT3 you get involved in doing drive-bys on rival gangs and stuff. In GTAVC you own nightclubs and strip clubs and "used car dealerships (read: car theft rings)" and a porn movie studio. It's a lot of content that you have to be worldly to not get the wrong message from. ;)

However, I will say one thing for VC: it's so polished it's almost a shame it's targetted to an older audience. The voice cast is fantastic (LT, Steve Majors, Ray Liotta and a lot of other notables lend their voices to characters in the game), the music is great (think Best of the 80s, including old school rap) and the replay-ability is almost unrivaled (I'm still working on the Paramedic, Vigilante and Fireman missions).

Ris
2 January 2003, 02:11 PM
Ardent & Dragonseye, thanks for the suggestions. My son will be 7 this month & Sm. Girl is 5, so I think they are way young for almost anything that isn't E-rated.

And, Dragonseye, the post was real good. Actually all the ones up are good. This'll be one wild ride, specially when the GM's get back into it!

2 January 2003, 06:50 PM
Ris,

Well, I'm sorry I didn't know many other E rated games. One suggestion to go with the Kingdom Hearts game would be the strategy guide. There's a goal in the game where you have to find all 101 Dalmations for the parents (can't remember the dogs' name off the top of my head) and the guide comes with a little sticker booklet for keeping track of the Dalmation pups found.

Okay folks,

GRaD is back online. I posted yesterday for ya, as part of the "GRaD is back online after the 1st" initiative. I'm gonna be around more again, and lets get ready for some kickbutt action against oh-so-familiar and oh-so-hated foes.

Lets see some posts.....

Axius & Reliant, are we supposed to wait on both of you before posting, like when we started? Or is this the only planned GM post until tonight?

This might be a good time to let us know what the tentative GM-posting schedule is going to be like (including "days off") & when you 2 need to see our posts. Reliant's last schedule of GM post(s) around 9/10 pm EST & player-posts by 6 pm EST the next day seemed to work pretty well.

Another suggestion, in case you 2 aren't sure yet whether or how often there will be 2 GM-posts / day: please let us know in the ooc thread if we should wait on a 2nd post.

I'm really really looking forward to our further adventures--I thnik8o

PS to Dragonseye: The 2 adult Dalmations are Pongo & Perdy :) For those who love trivia, in the original Dodie Smith book, there are Four adult Dalmations in the total of 101. The other 2 are a pair of liver-spot Dalmations

Having both of us post is not a neccessity. Sometimes, you might only get a post from one of us.

When we are doing two GM posts, we will be coordinating the posts so that the both come within a mintue or two (like before) or there will be no other posts.

Also, you might see two posts from the same GM. Normally, this will occur so that both GM posts (if there are two for the day) are posted at the same time.

Hope that helps.

3 January 2003, 07:51 AM
The new GM schedule for posting is probably going to be one GM post per day. That is to say, most likely only one of us will be posting... If we do more than one post, we'll probably coordinate them so that they end up together (like we used to).

On other GRaD news, I'd like to congratulate Scottyboy on earning himself a character level-up. (insert applause here) :D

I just thought I'd tell you guys about a movie I watched not long ago called The Hidden Fortress. It's an Akira Kurosawa film that apparently greatly inspired George Lucas when he created A New Hope. The DVD we had even had a short interview with Lucas where he talked a little about the movie and how it had inspired him.

It's very easy to see C3PO and R2D2 in the two peasents who are essentially the link between the entire story.

I'd really reccomend this movie, just for the movie itself. And unlike many of Kurosawa's films, it has a happy ending.

Ardent,

I hope there's nothing seriously wrong with your foot. Take care.

Ris
7 January 2003, 03:29 AM
Dragonseye, I have also read about the droids being inspired by the peasants in that movie, but have never seen it. Is it something we could watch in front of the kids? My husband would probably like it. One of his characters is named for the filmmaker.

Also, good post. I can work off that one. I've been letting others take the lead to give me a bit of a break after my last few posts. I should be a bit more lively from now on.

And thanks for the snow pix. Maybe they cooled things off here--for the next few days, it'll be in the 50's daytime & 40's (windchill in 30's) at night.8o :D

Ardent, I also hope your foot's ok.

My foot's okay, so off to work I go...

I'll do my best to catch up soon. ;)

dragonseye
7 January 2003, 06:58 AM
Ris,

To be honest, kids probably really wouldn't understand it, and it's not that appropriate for kids. Akira was rather graphic with the one death scene that existed (it's rather bloody, and the focus is put dirrectly on the death.) And there is some foul language (although entirely in subtitles.)

Between the two peasents, it's very easy to tell which one inspired each droid. And, like most of Kurosawa's films, Toshiro Mifune was in it- his character is one of my favorites. You can even see where Lucas was inspired for his scene with Han chasing after the Storm Troopers during their antics in the first Death Star in one of Toshiro Mifune's scenes.

All in all, I think this is my favorite Kurosawa film so far (I've only seen a couple others including Ran and Seven Samurai.) Deffinitely a good one to own.

Funny you should menting 50's, it's supposed to be 46 here today and in the 50's tomorrow. It's deffinitely a good thing I took the pictures on Sunday since most of the snow has already melted.

Ardent,

Good to hear your foot's alright. Take it easy.

Axius & I had a short IM chat earlier today. He & Reliant haven't forgotten us--both of them have been very busy RL. They should have an OOC, if not an IC post for us sometime tomorrow.

So, let's just wait on that. They've waited more than once for most of us to post, so it's only fair.

And those of you who haven't posted--like Vido, Overlord, Ardent, Frobi-Wan--why not take shameless advantage ;) of the opportunity & post IC. The more posts, the more chaos, the better, right? :D

That's why Firebird had all those extra medical tests after she slipped out of Medbay without being formally released. I figured it would be kinder than whatever Dragonseye would have Dr. A. do to the snubjock.

Of course you will, I never doubted you--or dear Nadia--for a nanosecond. :) I'd love to see her working with the npc Healer in my game--he's Nadia's exact oppostie.8o

As for Grad, I have a bad feeling that once we get off Acid-world, Firebird's time is gonna be divided between sessions with Nadia & Co. & interrogation sessions. And it's debatable which will be worse
Personally, I'm betting on whatever Nadia does or has done to the TIEjock. The players of our 2 "torturers" (no offense, guys) have already said they won't do that to her--but I've got no such assurances about Dr. A :D

BTW, are you ever gonna use my old idea & have her garrotte someone--with or without lekku?

dragonseye
10 January 2003, 07:18 AM
Yeah, Nadia's kind of the exact opposite of the characters I usually play. The last Seventh Sea camapign I played, my poor Castillian was a bit of drunkard, jovial if a bit dumb at times, and tried all of the most insane stunts (jumped off a three hundred foot high cliff onto a very hostile, gigantic bird for example.) Usually, the most serious characters I've played were when I played Legend of the Five Rings (and that was only barely...)

BTW, are you ever gonna use my old idea & have her garrotte someone--with or without lekku?

I'll get there eventually... :D and maybe sooner than anyone will want...

Gee, the poor male PC's & NPC's in this game :(. Of the 4 women who are either PC's or Major NPC's
--1 shot our good-lookin' XO--granted under extenuating circumstances
--1 stays hidden in a stateroom with guards outside
--1 is a helluva (in several ways) Dr. who has the crew so terrified of her, they'd almost prefer seeing Vader to being admitted to Medbay
--& 1 was witnessed shooting her CO/lover & no one, including her, has a clue whether she's a dangerous Intel Agent or a hapless, victimized TIEjock

I've thought about getting 7th Seas. The little I've heard about it sounds good

Sorry about the delay in posting, everyone. Real life got real busy for a while (i.e. numerous deadlines, meetings, etc.).

I hope what I posted works okay and doesn't mess up any plans anyone had. I checked in the post where Solarite landed the ship and he said he didn't think it was flyable, but I left it up to the GMs or whoever to determine the actual state of the craft and its fuel supplies.

Vido, I thought it was a great post. Your IC posts (here & GANR) are very effective, regardless of length. The 5 or 6 line one a while back of Va'Shem singing a funeral hymn for Kefteen, for example. That one really got to me.

I can't wait to see what the GM's decide to do with this one. And with what Moose & Dragonseye have going on arount the Too Bad.

Which reminds me. Has anyone heard from Axius or Reliant? I haven't heard from them since that IM with Ax. 3 days ago, so I'm starting to get worried. Hopefully, they are still just really busy.

Ris,

I saw reliant on here a couple days ago, but I didn't speak to him.

I did see another PS2 game your son might like: it's a new one with the Rugrats from Nickelodian. From what I saw on the package, it looked half way decent. Basically it's an adventure game.

Vido,

Your post was just great. And I think leaving it a little open ended is a very good idea so that you're not so specific that the GM's need to completely redo their plans...

And it's nice to see you back.

Axius,

Now that was one great GM post... deffinitely worth the wait.

All I know is it's a good thing our lives do not depend upon the Shaman viewing the Doctor's mind right now... But poor Va'Shem, he always recieves the short end of the stick when it comes to luck.

I should have my post ready this afternoon.

Axius, things get curiouser & curiouser, the more you write. Yes, it is a very nice post. 'Cept that if I'd read the word "author" 1 more more time I would've screamed.:) :p But that pales beside the impact of the post.

To All, As 1 or 2 of you already know, I will start back to work next month grading essay exams. My 1st project is 4-5 wks, & I will likely work pretty steady through summer's end. What this means for Grad is just that I won't be on during the day--just evenings & weekends, with maybe some early mornings/late afternoons--when several of you are used to getting with me.

And Dragonseye, what's all this about
...poor Va'Shem, he always recieves the short end of the stick when it comes to luck.

What about Firebird? The only good luck she's had lately is that she hasn't been vaped yet. :(
Not that I lack sympathy for Va'Shem. Believe me, I have sympathy & empathy for anyone our GM's have targeted. Don't worry, though, Vido, it'll be worth it. I think, anyways.

PS to Dragonseye, I'm ready to have Firebird do a bit of talking, if you want to go back & forth on dialog, like we've done before, I believe. If you post first, feel free to use Firebird--I've given you enough info in PM's to start a conversation between the women. And I know I'll be able to work with whatever you do. Vido, you might have heard hint of a promotion. Something Dirk Draygo has been long remiss in not granting the oft-wounded Va'Shem. Hopefully he lasts long enough to recieve it. *chuckles*

Let me dole out some level-ups, while I'm at it.

1) Ris, through extenuating circumstances, has gotten to be the highest level character of the PCs. Trust me when I say (as you will soon see yourselves) that this might not be a good thing. In fact, maybe those levels were there all along?

2) Dragonseye has earned herself a level. I'd say either in Tech Spec or Soldier, since she has been doing most of that.

3) Plys has earned a spot up to level 4, especially with continuing a whole plot while the rest of us are away and partying.

Thanks everyone who liked that last post. I wasn't sure how well it was going to read, but I had fun writing it. (Although time to write them has become sparse these days) I am very much looking forward to how all of you react to the freedom, and the chance to interact with one another. I was given the go-ahead to post my PC here in the OOC thread, so here goes. I'm a total newbie to the D20 system, but it sounds like you guys are having fun, and I'm willing to learn.

Allin Bedenko

Uusually called "Al" by his friends, Allin is a friendly, yet somewhat quiet sort of person. He's a computer specialist/slicer, usually on the shady side of things. He grew up on the world of Carnos, a backwater world in the Outer Rim, where he learned some rudimentary hunting and survival skills. When he turned 16, he left to go to the Corellian Institute of Computer Science, where he graduated with flying colors at age 18. He soon fell in with the shady side of the galaxy, and became a slicer-for-hire.

At age 20 on a "business trip" to Nar Shadda, he met a young Zeltron woman named Atyané. They began a friendship that continued over the next four years. Then, suddenly, Atyané disappeared. Allin suspects the Empire grabbed her because she was slightly connected to his illegal activities -- she sometimes served as a courier of information. At any rate, Allin has been searching for her for the past year -- even though his few friends have been somewhat pessimistic about her chances of survival. Allin needs money and access to good computers to continue his search.

Allin hates the Empire, both for the persecution of the people on his homeworld, and for taking Atyané from him. He's heard through various sources that the crew of the Wandering Wampa shares his...dislike for all things Imperial, and so has sought them out. For once, he's willing to work for free in whatever capacity he can help in.

Allin has dark hair and brown eyes, and is of medium build. If approached, he is friendly, but doesn't open himself up well to others unless he trusts them implicitly. Though he's spent much time in the underworld, Allin has a reputation for being trustworthy, and won't desert a friend in need.

Very good character, Corr Terrik. Welcome aboard! Or wherever. :) And don't worry about not knowing d20. Except for write-ups, the mechanics won't really be used. We won't be making any die rolls. We mainly use our stats for getting an idea of what we can & can't do.

I did remind Reliant you needed to be worked in, but i'm sure he or Axius was already on it.

Alright, I got the go ahead from reliant so I present you a merciless, cold-hearted figure. One who cares for nothing....

No one knows much about Khan. He is from the Uba system, dressed in the Ubese environmental suit. No one has seen him outside of it; no one has even seen his face. A cold-hearted, merciless mercenary, he has his own code of ethics. Kill or be killed, trust no one. He only is concerted about himself, considering other people targets or potential enemies. He is a technophile and has the latest weapons and gadgets. His suit has been heavily modified, with a datapad and dartcaster on his left arm and a blaster built in the right arm. A sonic emitter was also hidden in his right arm; it could stun and drop someone in seconds.

Khan’s rifle was also specially built, supporting a flash/noise suppressor, infrared targeting sensor and high-powered blast spin coils. His helmet has a variety of features, including built in commlink, electrobinoculars and a sensor pack. It also sports a vocal enhancer that has three different voice modulations he can switch from.

Khan’s past is shrouded in mystery. No one cares, all his employers are concerned with is that he is a ruthless mercenary that does any job for the right price. He has no friends, living alone is his preferred lifestyle. The Empire even had him do a job or two, until gangster paid him a sum to knock off a top imperial officer. Now, with the Imperials on his back (and several dead officers under his belt) he is looking for a way out of under the Imperial rule. Besides it provides plenty of killings, for killing is a sport and he was a master. After all, life is short, so end other lives before they end yours.

Mostly serving now in the underworld, his employers pay him a big sum, for they fear that someone else will pay a higher amount, and Khan would burn them to oblivion. Heavily armed, standing around 2 meters, Khan is an opposing figure. Especially since he has body silhouettes painted on his helmet…you can’t help but wonder if you are next.

Khan Kelko: Adult Male Ubese, Fringer 1/Soldier 2; Init +2 (+2 Dex); Def 16 (+2 Dex, +4 Class); Spd 10m; VP/WP 26/13; Atk +4 melee (1d3+2, punch), +4 or +0/+0 ranged (3d6, Blaster [Pistol]), +4 or +0/+0 ranged (3d8, Blaster [Heavy Pistol]), +4 or +0/+0 ranged (3d8+1, crit 19-20, Blaster [Rifle, Mastercraft +1]); SQ Fringer bonus class skill (Gather Information), Sign language, Xenophobia; SV Fort +6, Ref +3, Will +0; SZ M; FP: 0; Rep: +1; Str 14, Dex 15, Con 13, Int 12, Wis 10, Cha 9.

This might seem kind of lazy of me, but I was wondering if someone could PM me or e-mail me a summary of events ingame so far. I looked at the actual thread and was staggered by the amount of posts.

I'd really like to be caught up on the game events, but I rarely have the time to read so much text, hence my request.

My e-mail is: dionaga@juno.com

Hey, I will join lazy Corr Terek! Can someone sum up what is happing? It is fairly confusing, I am not sure how many ships we have or who the heck is the Firebird person. PM me for my email, as I don't give it out to anyone. All I need is a quick summary. Thanks!

Hey everyone sorry I have not posted yet, but RL has kicked in full force and I have been very busy. I will probably get a post in tomorrow.

Corr & Talon, Good Idea.
Ok, I'll take up the challenge & write one--it fits with my Envoy duties. And I'm going to post it here. This would probably be handy for everyone. It may be a day or 2 before I get it done.

Meanwhile, here are the answers to Talon's 2 questions.

I am not sure how many ships we have
1) The Wandering Wampa, a very modified (most of ours are:)) corvette, commanded by Dirk Draygo
2)Quicksilver, Capt. Draygo's personal vessel, can outfly even the Millenium Falcon, 8o and looks a lot prettier
3)Too Bad, an aging & badly maintained--to put it kindly--frieghter a couple of our PC's acquired.
4)Each PC & NPC snubjock in Striker Squadron has his/her own starfighter. Currently, 3 TIE Defenders, 1 X-wing, & 4 Z-95 Headhunters
(NB: I'm not including those found by Plys Tay & co. at the New Base, since Reliant has not said which are flightworthy)

who the heck is the Firebird person.
Everyone would like a straight answer to this--including Firebird herself. :?
OOC-wise, Firebird is my PC--her stats are just 4 posts up & her backstory is on p. 1 of this thread.
IC-wise, she's one of Striker Squadron's TIEjocks & 2 Flight Leader. She may or may not also be an ISB agent planted by an Inquisitor. (Think Capt. Tycho Celchu's plight in the early Rogue Squadron books--only some of the evidence seems more solid than in his case)

Welcome aboards, to everyone. I'm afraid Ray's posts might get as laconic as I am in RL right about now, but hopefully I'll be able to put together something worthy of all the undue attention I receive as the highest ranking officer (speaking of which, just how the heck did that happen?) amongst the PCs.

Right now Ray's in a "should of, would of" kind of rut, if nobody's noticed, which is sort of where I am. Back to work/study....

You're really looking forward to torturing--I mean doctoring--them aren't you?
A friendly warning Talon. Dr. A. is a very skilled physician & surgeon--but she can make even your Khan look kind-hearted. Rumor has it that she has never lost a patient--they are too terrified of what she will do to them if they don't get well. 8o

Uh oh, sounds like trouble for me. I'll just have to hope that Allin never needs her help. Of course, after reading your summary, that sounds highly unlikely.

Hmmm...an Inquisitor with a flair for illusions...you know, I think this could be one interesting ride. I'm ready to go, anyway.

Maybe 'cause they're Good Guys/Gals:) ?

Maybe 'cause some things just don't fit?

I don't know. The GM's set this up in such a way that there are lots of questions & very few answers--at least at this point. And as I said before, this is reminescent of Tycho Celchu's situation. And just as many Rogues supported Tycho, she does seem to have--if not support at this point--friends who at least want to give her a fair hearing.

Actually, it's a bit more complicated than that (and just FYI, nobody should mistake Ray for a good person; he's earned that Dark Side Point for good cause)...but we'll leave it there.

Ris
19 January 2003, 05:21 AM
Yes, Ardent, I know it's more complex than that. But I don't know all those complexities. I just threw out the most basic ones, and in a slightly flippant tone.
I don't know know how this will work out in the long--or short--run. I am aware that a couple players have plans, but I don't know any details. And except for a case where a player has indicated s/he wants to do some IC interactions via IM, I'm not going to find out until it's posted in the IC thread.
I am looking forward to seeing what happens.

FYI, Firebird's new classes were chosen because the GM's & I agreed that they fit the way the woman was trained & how that training was unblocked--not because they fit any specific character directions

Ris
22 January 2003, 06:14 PM
Reliant & I have agreed that, at least for the interim, I am taking his place as Co-GM for GRaD. This will be effective immediately. Captains Dirk Draygo & Amy Solarite are to be left alone for now--they are Rel.'s PC's, in effect. He will at some point be doing IC posts as a player. Yes, Firebird is still my personal PC & should be treated that way.

Reliant has gotten much busier in RL, as some of you know, & does not feel up to the work of running the game right now--especially when so many players have been taking days to reply to GM posts. Since I enjoy the game & know there is interest in it, I offered to do the up front work of posting & keeping things going. I will get with Axius later, so that we can work out what each of us will be doing.

This will be my first foray into online GMing, so please, if you have any suggestions, let me know. I especially need to know what people want to do do. We've got some pretty good things just starting, thanks to Reliant & Axius--the natives of this world, a whole new base (& world) of our own, & the sinister mystery surrounding a certain pair of TIEjocks.
You can get with me via PM or YIM (miladyderyni). It may be a day or 2 before I have a GM post in the IC thread, but i am working on some ideas.

I will update the game guidelines later, but for now here are a few items. I don't have a great deal of free time, since I have a family & family activities, & will be going back to work on 2/5. These RL things will take priority--but I will let you know if there's a delay.

1)I'm only promising 1-2 GM posts/wk. I may change this later, if Axius or Reliant is able, in future, to regularly help with GM posting. And enough players are posting regularly.

2)Post within 24-48 hrs. of a GM post. I will begin on my new post asap after I start seeing replies. Please tell me via PM or the OOC thread if you can't, so I'll be able to take care of your PC. You're free to ask a fellow player to run your PC, too.

3) If you don't post or don't let me know you can't, I won't be able to do anything with your character until you do.

4)All the "rules" related to using PC's/NPC's are still in effect.

5) Trial Basis: Any players with the time & inclination may post IC >1/GM post. Please limit such posts to conversations & reactions to others' IC posts

Right now I'm fighting off a bout of dimension and confusion (don't ask) and if I do post anything, it's likely to be weird. Within 2 days does mean I have to keep a closer eye on my mailbox than I sometimes like to, but I'll try (no promises).

Ardent, wierd is fine. :)

And I did mean 2 days as a guide. If I have some idea of what Ray will do from you I can work with him. PM me or email me** when you have a chance. ('Cause Ray is the highest-ranking Wampa officer, so I need at least some idea of how he will handle Firebird)

What I am trying to avoid is what contributed to Reliant needing a break--things coming to a standstill because PC's couldn't manage to write even 2 lines IC or OOC & so the GM decided s/he was too busy to spend a couple hours on a post to react to only 2-3 PC's.

I think I can share what Ray intends to do with Firebird without really ruining it for anyone else right here. ;)

Like I mentioned before, Ray isn't a good person (he's a wanted felon for good reasons and he's killed someone in cold blood)...but he hasn't avoided a life sentance to Kessel and the Imperial machine for so long by being stupid.

That's right, Ray's cunning (I know this comes as a surprise to some of you), so he'll know that if Firebird is an enemy, it's best to keep her close. But he may convince Captains Draygo and Solarite to keep her out of the loop sometimes.

If it comes down to arguing with all of the other officers over it, Ray may give and let them have their way with her (crew dissention is bad, mkay?), but he'll want to keep her alive and active as long as it seems like it's not a huge risk.

As far as the finer details, we can discuss them as soon as I figure out where all my CAT5 cables went to and can hook up my old computer to teh intarnet (it's the one that has YahooIM on it). My e-mail's listed with the site, if you think that's going to be quicker (it's changed, FYI).

As far as other people using Ray...by all means. But keep the above and aforemention habits in mind. Just some other notes: Ray's canny enough to know that he should be leading by example, and won't cut and run in front of a large group, but isn't above doing so to save his own skin. So, uh, try not to get him in a life or death situation. ;)

Ris
23 January 2003, 08:35 PM
Ardent, thanks for getting this up so soon--it does help. Also, per Reliant's suggestion, Ray as XO will be acting commander of the Wampa as soon as he & the corvette are in the same place.

But [Ray] may convince Captains Draygo and Solarite to keep her out of the loop sometimes.
Since Ray will be in charge, he can keep her out of the loop any time he wants--although other pc's may seek to change his mind or go behind his back. Ray could also order her confined to quarters under guard or put in the brig. I am not sure if he could court-martial her.
If Ray opts not to confine her, btw, the other Striker officers can decide her status with the Sqaudron--do they want her as acting CO again, does she fly with them period, etc.

Everyone, I didn't really make it clear, in my announcement, but Dirk & Amy cannot be contacted or located right now, & maybe not for quite some time. Reliant asked me to do this & they are his PC's, now. I am hoping he will soon, 'specially if things pick up, decide to do some playing again. It won't be the same without the 1 & only Dirk Draygo:D

Whatever floats their boats, I suppose. I have to figure out what the heck I'm going to do with the last post to wrap it up...probably bring Va'Shem back to consciousness...so I'll let Vido do his thing and hopefully wow us all again before I break the meeting of minds up.

As far as court-martialling...Ray has neither the experience nor the desire to prosecute someone under military law. It will probably come up, especially considering Tay's experience, but Ray probably won't want to preside...and likely won't have time to preside over any such hearing (and I don't think we could make it as interesting as JAG does, anyway).

Just out of curiosity, can Ray grant brevet ranks pending the approval of the Captains? There are quite a few deserving people posting frequently, and it will allow Ray to concentrate on his duties as the acting captain if he could pull a couple people up.

Ris
24 January 2003, 07:16 AM
Ardent, yes, I'm looking forward to reading Vido's response. And feel free to wake Va'Shem, if he doesn't. After all, not much can be done about Arrin here.

That doesn't mean the group cannot continue to enjoy the amenities** of the next IN vacation spot for the galaxy's beautiful & weathy. If people want to play tourist here for a long while, I'll provide the "tourist traps.":p

I'll get with you via PM on the other issues. Ris
