The Golden Age of the New Republic: Shadows of Deceit

The Emperor and Lord Vader have been defeated. The Rebellion is no longer a rebellion, it is now the New Republic. The fledgling government has faced many challenges in its infancy, but it had prevailed. Luke Skywalker had reformed the Jedi Knights, the Imperial Remnant was loosing power. For once, the hero’s of the Rebellion thought that they had finally achieved the peace that had fought for.

Kali set the briefing room up in preparation for the arrival of her team. She had prepared detailed files on the mission, much like file that had been given to her a few days prior by New Republic Intelligence. General Cracken’s words still echoed in her mind, I already have one dead agent, be careful with your information, its what will keep you alive. Kali swept the room for bugs and waited for her team to arrive, which would be any minute. The mission they hoped would reveal that Hazil Inc. was just a legitimate corporation, but Kali knew better, as did NRI. Pulling her shoulder length blonde hair up into a pony tail Kali calmed herself using a Jedi calming exercise, one of the first things she had learned in the Jedi arts. I’m ready.

The doors to the conference room slide open to admit a large figure. A hulking blue reptilian with massive arms swinging marches down the table's length and takes a seat, an absent-minded nod the only salutation given.

It's white and tan uniform tunic and trousers coupled with style of motion suggest this to be a military being. The lieutenant insignia on the left breast confirms the assumption.

Bright yellow slitted eyes aim straight ahead like lifeless sulfur gems and seem to focus on some abstract point beyond the bulkhead. A slight glance down the wax-like sheen of the square face reveals the slight motions of thick scaled lips enunciating an inaudibly faint whispered monolgue.

"ssds...ss...sssst...kss...tsss...chss..."

Dressed in the dark blue uniform of a Corporate Sector Officer, Mykel walks into the room with confidence. He knows in advance that he’ll be working with a cross-section of individuals, and believes that he understood that Jedi would be heading up the team. He nods to the others already in the room, and looks around, taking the place in. The New Republic Naval officer that escorted him takes his leave and leaves Mykel with the remainder of the investigation team.

He approaches the woman first, as she appears to have some authority and steps up to introduce himself. If she doesn’t in turn introduce him to the Barabel, he steps over and sticks out his hand, again taking the initiative to make the officer’s acquaintance. “Hi, I’m Mykel Ferral, of the CSA. Pleasure to meet you.”

After getting through those introductions, he looks around the room for a cup of stimcaf. If he finds it, he pours himself a glass and makes idle chit chat, greeting further members of the group as they come in.

Once again the door slides open. In steps two Far’ghuls, chatting quietly to themselves. They both look identical and are wearing the same clothing, simple pants with wild and exotic shirts, and what appears to be scarfves hanging down. Pinned on their shirts was the badge of the NRI Freelance department. Both have green eyes and brown fur. Both glance around and take in the room. One Far’ghul nudges the other.
“Oy, look over there!” says the one pointing towards the Zeltron. “ Did ‘e know she was leading this bally party? Maybe this here won’t be so bad!” The Far’ghul speaking begins to heads toward Kali when the other stops him.
“Easy Taps ‘ol boy. Shes a Jedi.”
“Oy? So, Paps?”
“Jedi aren’t to be trusted.”
“Wot? Whys that, methinks?”
Paps face struggles for a moment. He did not know himself and he finally settled on a good answer.
“Cuz. Uh, oh. Look, the lizard reptiles!”
Paps and Taps gives Brix a wide berth, both casting watchful glances towards him. They stay as far away from him as possible.
One Far’ghul salutes and bows at Kali. “Oy mate! Paps and Taps reportin’ for duty, as ordered! I be Paps, this here is me brother Taps.”
“We are twins you know.”
“Course she knows! She’s got eyes, you bally oaf!”

The two felines begin to whisper and talk amongst each other, with good nature bantering back and forth. One bursts into laughter from a comment coming from the other. It is hard to believe that these are the NRI Freelance agents assigned to this mission…

When the newcomer enters and greets Brix he suddenly comes alive as though doused with ice water.

"Hmm?...Ah, parrrdon me. I did not notice you therrre.", he practically growls with rolling "r"s.

Standing and taking the extended hand in a firm, but not too firm, grasp he adds," I am second lieutenant Brixalashu of New Republic Special Forces." Obligingly he nods to the two farghul he just now seems to have noticed.

Scanning the room now for the first time he notices the human (as far as he can tell) female, Moondancer if he recalls. Cursing his failure of protocol he tries to cover, "Errr...Mistrresss Moondancerrr! I did not notice yourrr arrrrival eitherrr. Forrrgive me, pleasssse."

Mykel joins Brix in greeting the two Farghuls. Having already beaten Brix to the punch to greeting Kali, he avoids repeating himself. The Security Agent does, however, move around the room, taking in all the details that he can, just because he's interested.

Shortly before the meeting, an isolated booth in a restaurant

The 2 doctors, 1 old & 1 young, are discussing their latest case over lunch.
"That was very tricky work, Tija," the man said. "And you handled it excellently. I don't know why you called me in. Just to show off?" he grinned at the brown haired girl who looked barely old enough to be beginning med school--much less be a doctor.

"No, the boy really needed your touch. You saw the scans--it could not all be gotten surgically. And I cannot use the Force so precisely."

"Yet, m'girl. You will," Danny Aurelian told her confidently. "You know what I did now."

"Yes, father. Y'know, I think this is the first time you assisted me. It felt odd at first," she smiled. They continued the conversation until Tija had to leave.

"I am so glad we've had this time together."

"Me too, sweetling." They both laughed at the endearment Danny hadn't used for years, then the old doctor embraced his daughter & apprentice. "May the Force be with you, Tija."

"And you. I love you."

the meeting room

The door opens once more to admit a dark-haired woman who looks to be in her late teens, a green hooded cloak thrown back over her shoulders revealing modest but "in" clothing-- long side-slit skirt & silky, clingy blouse. Her belt has a medical bag, sophisticated medscanner & similar items on it.

The girl immediately goes to Kali & bows deeply. "Greetings, Master Moondancer. We've met only a few times, but I am honored to be chosen by you." They exchange a few quiet words, then she joins the others.

"Hello, I'm Dr. Tija Aurelian," she tells them. Sensing the good nature of the twins--which reminds her of her father & teacher--Tija turns her attention to them. "Those are the greatest shirts!"

Both Far'ghuls ignore the Barabel, staying as far away from him as possible. When the CSA man noddeds at them, Paps makes a beeline for him. Paps shakes the CSA Officer's hand and launches into a discussion about CSA postion on joining the Republic.

Sensing the good nature of the twins--which reminds her of her father & teacher--Tija turns her attention to them. "Those are the greatest shirts!"

The more silly one, Taps, cranks up his smile.

"They are, aren't they? And may 'e welcome 'u,young doctor, to our little party. It looks like a jolly good bash, don't it? And where you be studying at? Good to 'ave a chap who can patch us up after a scrap!" He says the latter with a wink and a smile.

Paps glances at Taps and something passes between them. Taps' smile goes down a notch.

"Yes, 'e has 'eard about this one. You are a skilled doctor, no? One who uses the Force?"

Meanwhile, Paps asks Mykel, "So, what be the chance of CSA coming and hanging with the Republic? They need blokes like you, 'e be sure of it. CSA could bring major skill into play with the Republic."

Brix nods and practices his "non-intimidating" closed mouth smile for the newcomers.

Returning to his seat he prepares to greet anyone else that enters: name, rank, organization, name, rank, organization, etc. He hoped he wasnt forgetting something.

As he pondered all the rules of inter-species etiquette he'd learned his claws leisurely begans to doodle a pattern on the table ruining it's finish and producing long ribbons of greel wood.

Meanwhile, Paps asks Mykel, "So, what be the chance of CSA coming and hanging with the Republic? They need blokes like you, 'e be sure of it. CSA could bring major skill into play with the Republic."

Mykel pauses, taking a moment to carefully consider his answer. “Well, the Authority and the Re-public,” he appears to have a slight stutter but continues on, “have some vastly different points of view regarding issues related to commerce. The concern in the Authority seems to be that by joining the Republic, all current rights and activities may have to be suspended so as to coincide directly with the Republic way of acting.” Mykel takes a sip from his stimcaf, “That, at least, is the major sticking point for the time being.” He stops for another moment to take another drink.

“Naturally, our trade continues as we speak. Certain activities, especially inter-business activities, will go on without question. Some Republic worlds have private relationships with the Authority, and naturally,” he motions around the room, “we have some higher-level contacts that keep us mutually informed.” He takes another sip before finishing his thought, “I’m sure that the results of this little jaunt together will help us work on those diplomatic negotiations that might bring us together.

Tija smiles back at Taps & clasps his "hand" in both hers. "And you 2 are? Happy to meet you...Yes, it looks like quite the party!" She laughs merrily, responding to the friendliness she's picking up. "I graduated from the University Medical College a couple years ago. I'm one of the surgeons out of MedCentral now--and this'll be my first chance to practice on Far'ghul." Green-gold eyes dancing, Tija reaches for her 'scanner.

Paps glances at Taps and something passes between them. Taps' smile goes down a notch.
"Yes, 'e has 'eard about this one. You are a skilled doctor, no? One who uses the Force?"
Is this why Father kept his secrets for so many years after the Inquisition was brought to justice? Tija wonders. The young Jedi doesn't indicate that she has detected the subtle shift in attitude--or how it stings her. Tija answers "Yes." After teasing Taps again about being a practice-patient, she takes a glass of flavored-water, then sits at the table, pulling out her datapad & 'scanner, checking whether she has Barabel & Far'ghul med-databases.

With little more than the whisper-quiet sliding of the room's doors, a dark-cloaked figure of large stature enters the chamber. From beneath the hood, purple orbs burn malevolently.

With a quick, but unhurried motion the figure removes the cloak's hood and pulls down the cowl. One half of the figure's face is tattooed with vivid black lines, dozens of them cris-crossing in wild patterns. The purple orbs are actually purple-irised eyes. Against the jet black color of the hair, they are both majestic and disturbing at the same time. The figure levels a searing gaze on the assembled group, pausing at Kali.

The figure nods to Kali. "The perimeter is secure, no one has entered or left the compound without authorization and my knowing since we arrived, Moondancer."

Kali smiles and says, "Good work, Gray. Everyone, this is the Baron Gray Errant of Brentaal. Gray will be acting as my second for the course of this mission."

Gray slides soundlessly to a corner of the room, and pulls his cloak back, revealing a silver-on-black ensemble and a lightsaber hanging from an otherwise unadorned utility belt. He leans casually into the corner, settling his bulk with the ease of an athlete.

Taps shifted uneasily. He knew he had upset that doctor and he did not like the knowledge. But he was unsure of force-users and they made him uncomfortable. She seemed nice though….

Oh well, he thought, they are too complex to understand, them force blokes. Just me and Paps luck to get saddled up with two of ‘em. Make do, Taps old boy, make do. He joined Paps, who was talking to that CSA chap. Paps wrapped up his conversation with the officer and turned to Taps.
“Oy Taps, what ‘e be doing? I see you upset the jedi, ‘u big oaf!”
“Aye, ‘u be the one to go and blunder about not trusting ‘em, so ‘u be not one to talk! But what we be doing about the reptile? ‘e wonders if he knows Sasherean.”
“ ‘Course ‘e don’t. He be a reptile, that don’t mean he knows ‘em all. ‘e don’t appear mean though….”
“Aye Paps, but appearances don’t mean everything. Remember the wookie?”
“That was ‘ur kriffing fault! ‘u be the one that tried to cheat ‘em! ‘e be lucky ‘u have arms!”
“Aye, but ‘e didn’t think a blind wookie would be that strong…”

With little more than the whisper-quiet sliding of the room's doors, a dark-cloaked figure of large stature enters the chamber. From beneath the hood, purple orbs burn malevolently.

Paps and Taps watched the dark figure sweep into view. They both glanced at each other

"Oy mate, this mission gets more and more interesting, don't it." Paps said, eyeing the figure. "Come on chap, lets see who 'e be!"

Taps and Paps made their way through the room to the figure. Paps made a grand bow and spoke with a twinkle in his eye. "Oy chap, I be Paps, and this is me twin brother Taps. And 'oo might you be? 'e see your another Jedi. Now me friend, I have one question. Did 'e meant to scarr your face, or did an enemy of 'urs do it for you?" said Paps, indacating Gray's tattooes.

He joined Paps, who was talking to that CSA chap. Paps wrapped up his conversation with the officer and turned to Taps.

Mykel politely introduced himself to Taps. He wonders how he'll ever be able to tell the two apart. They both seem likable fellows, for being non-human, but he was really curious what they were bringing to the table to help the mission.

Taps and Paps made their way through the room to the figure.

Gray seemed an interesting fellow, and Mykel followed the twins over to introduce himself. When they were finished speaking to Gray, he eased forward, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Baron," the operative says with a bow. "I'm Mykel Ferral, of the Corporate Sector Authority."

Hmmm, I'll have to get copies of the others' med files & latest exams, too, Tija decides, & makes a note on her datapad. She considers making another overture to the Far'ghuls. I know he--Taps?--didn't intend it to come out that way. And even if he did, all of us must work together. Before she could do more than turn toward the chattering twins, she felt a presence even before the door opened--& turned back in time to see

...a dark-cloaked figure of large stature enters the chamber. From beneath the hood, purple orbs burn malevolently...The figure levels a searing gaze on the assembled group, pausing at Kali.

The young Jedi recalled having heard the name once or twice, but little else about the Baron. Tija endured the burning gaze, & sensed he was strong in the Force, as she waited for the Baron to address the rest of them.

Instead,

Gray slides soundlessly to a corner of the room, and pulls his cloak back, revealing a silver-on-black ensemble and a lightsaber hanging from an otherwise unadorned utility belt. He leans casually into the corner, settling his bulk with the ease of an athlete.

Tija slipped one hand to her concealed weapon, taking comfort from thoughts of the gentle man who made & kept it for so long. But all the others saw is the doctor watching the twins greet Gray, a slight smile on her face--& reaching to her eyes.

Gray studies the two Far'ghul intently for a moment, then turns to the Nagai.

"I am certain you will change your mind about our meeting being a pleasure soon enough, sir." Gray nods in deference to him, then resumes his study of the room.

He glances at the young Jedi trainee, resting her hand on something concealed in her clothing...very likely her lightsaber. He looks her over carefully, recognizing the carefully schooled features of an emotional person trying to bottle it up. Gray does his best to smile for her, barely managing something more friendly than threatening.

Paps, taken aback by Gray, stood for a moment, then excused himself. Going off to the side, Paps produced his datapad. Mr. Gray wants to be mysterouis, does he? he thought, well, we will see about that. Mister Gray, information is what I do best.

Taps meanwhile, retreating from the rude Gray, muttered to the CSA officer, "Oy, 'e thought Jedi were supposed to be polite, aye chap? He be our second, jolly good fun."

Taps glanced at the officer again. The NRI had stressed the importance of Mykal on this mission and him and Paps had strict orders to make sure he survived this mission. Taps wondered just how much pull the CSA man had.

Paps finished on his datapad, slid past Taps, and exchanged nods, and then headed over to doctor. He had not a chance to talk to her and he needed some information...

"Hello good doctor, I believe we have not met. Me names Paps, twin of Taps, if you have not noticed" he said with a grin. "Oy, now you being a Jedi and all that bally fun, 'e wondering if 'u ever heard of the Gray-man, sitting over there now Missy?" said Paps, the mischievous was out of his face and he was serious now. He watched her face intently...

He glances at the young Jedi trainee...Gray does his best to smile for her, barely managing something more friendly than threatening.
Seemingly intent on her work, Tija feels the older Jedi's scrutiny. She looks over at him, and gives him a fleeting smile, before bowing her head & returning to what she was doing. While no more at ease with him, she does find one familiar thing about Baron Errant. He is very perceptive, almost as much as Father. I wonder why I've heard so little about a Jedi so strong with the Force?

Tija soon discovers she is not the only one with question about their new superior. One of the Far'ghuls touches her shoulder & she turns to see a very bright smile set in soft brown fur.

Tija realized what Paps was about. She would have liked to be some help to him, but had no information to offer. "Yes, so your brother told me...So what makes you so sure I'm a Jedi?" Her merry smile faded a bit. "Like you, I only know his name.
"So, didn't one of you tour with that great band? I like the music they did--it was different."

"Like you, I only know his name."
Paps smiled dropped a bit at this news and he gazed at the Baron for one brief moment before turning his attention to the doctor. Once again, the seroiusness faded instantly and in its place came the love of fun. Paps grinned wildly at Tija's question

"So what makes you so sure I'm a Jedi?"

"Missy, I am hurt!" he said with faked shocked hurt.

"Information is what I do best! Yes, lets see..." he said with a smile as he pulled out his datapad. "Yes, 'ur father is being....oh. 'es Danny Aurelian and is a Jedi from the Old Republic days...yes, trained at the Praexium. I see...you trained there also." He grinned at her.

"So, didn't one of you tour with that great band? I like the music they did--it was different."

He moaned when she said that. He made a sour face. "Actually Missy, I flew their transport. And I actually hated their music, now would 'ye be believing that? Me brother sang with 'em but I always tried to skip them concerts. It was the wookie drums that got me off them. When they did that song with the wookie drums, I told Taps, I told 'em 'Taps old boy, 'e can't handle it. If 'e hast to here that awaful noise again, 'e be done with 'em.'. But it was then when the Imperials came. Missy, if you never seen a Imp mad, I hope you never do." He said shaking his head.

For a moment, he stared into space, recalling those days. It lasted only for a spell and Paps flashed another smile and said

"Oy, want to hear a joke? Well this bothan walked into a cantina..." and began to tell the old bothan-with-the-gornt joke that has been told through out the galaxy since the dawn of time...

After Moondancer introduced the Baron, Brix nodded his greetings. There was something a little unusual about the being but the officier couldnt put his claws on it.

"Why are Jedi so important to you, Paps?"

She caught on but assumed wrong. She is clever, but naive.

He gave her one of his finer smiles and replied, "Jedi are not important to me, Missy. 'e just want to be sure 'e can trust them. For Jedi wield a great power, one that can destroy people around them, if they be not careful. 'e tries to keep an eye on Jedi, just to see where the Order is going. I know what the Imps did to the Jedi. I saw an Inquisitor once confront a Jedi. I know what they can do, both Imps and Jedi.
I also cheated a Jedi at Sabbac once. Had to blow me way out of that one, me did. Nearly got me skifter rammed down me bally throat." he said with a bright cheery smile.
She knows what Imps can do too. Good...good. Teaches 'em young Jedi they be not invincible.

'e feels sorry for anyone trying to stop us. Between that brute over there,", indicating Brix, " and mister tattoo...and this." With a twist of his wrist, a deadly hold-out blaster appeared in his paw. It has a Happy Suprise and Paps put his paws together and when he withdrew them, it was gone.

" Nifty little trick, 'eh? 'e learned it when we met a traveling trickster. Taps can do it best though."

"Doing what the best?" said Taps as he approached the table. Paps looked at him and said. " The disappearing trick, of course."

"Oye! Here doctor, would ye be liking your glass of flavored water now? Well...watch."
Taps, grinning like a maniac took her glass of water and put one paw in front of the other. When he removed it, the glass was gone.
He waved his paws, then brought them together. He twisted both of them, then quickly jerked one hand away, reveling the glass of water, which he put back down on the table.

As Taps completes his feat of legerdemain, the door to the briefing room opens to admit a woman in her early thirties dressed in a gray velvet gown. As she slowly looks around the room, the light glints off of the dangling silver earrings she wears. First impressions are lasting impressions. Her mother had always taught her that. With grace developed through years of practice, Lady Aurum of Kuat enters the room, with a faint smile peeking from the corners of her mouth.

As she makes progress toward Master Moondancer, she nods slightly to the others in the room or extends a hand in greeting. She carefully keeps all emotion from her face as she notices the… interesting... variety of individuals she has come to be working with. The two Jedi are somewhat of a mystery to her, as she knows little of their order. The physician at least, must have had some advanced education, though she does seem a bit young for such an important position. But Lady Aurum had to admit she had impeccable taste in clothing The CSA representative she could respect because she had something in common with him. The reptilian lieutenant, a Barabel if she was not mistaken, looked to be somewhat unaware of his surroundings, but must have some degree of skill to be given his rank. And then there were the Farghul. They wore New Republic insignia, so they must be of some usefulness to the party, but Lady Aurum never felt truly comfortable with individuals who found themselves as terribly amusing as the twins appeared to.

As she comes face to face with Master Moondancer, Lady Aurum inclines her head to a slightly greater degree than she had to the others in the room. “I apologize for my tardiness, Master Moondancer. I was unavoidably detained. I am Lady Melisonne Calendae Aurum of Kuat, here to assist this endeavor in whatever capacity as I am able.”

Kali silently regarded the group as they interacted with one another. After several minutes the door swung open once again and Kali smiled slightly.

“I apologize for my tardiness, Master Moondancer. I was unavoidably detained. I am Lady Melisonne Calendae Aurum of Kuat, here to assist this endeavor in whatever capacity as I am able.”

“Welcome Lady Aurum it is a pleasure to have you with us. If everyone could please take a seat will begin the briefing. Gray if you would assist me.” Kali said indicating for him to come to the head of the table. With causal grace and ease Gray slid off the wall, he’s confident strides brought him next to Kali.

Kali looked over the assembled men and women of various origins. “Welcome everyone, as you can see the NRI has set up this group to head out an investigation. We have other team members, some in orbit here and others waiting for us on Bothawui, but for now we will discuss our objective. For those of you that are Contract Agents the choice to continue on is still yours, but should you stay for this briefing as stated in Article ten of your NRI contract you’re here by bound to this mission until it is completed in its entirety.” Kali glanced at each contract agent in turn and got a solemn nod of affirmation, well the twins were not so solemn, giddy seemed more the right term.

“Good, we shall begin then. About a two months ago the New Republic purchased programs from Hazil Inc, they were to be used to help organize our growing military forces and other assets. Almost immediately after installation, amazingly well coordinated attacks began to occur on our forces, mostly in the outer rim and away from the core worlds. We have been unable to get any leads on the unknown force and how they get their data, our only lead is that we believe that Hazil Inc. is somehow connected. We sent in an Agent two weeks ago, he had not been heard from since. Our quite larger and diverse team will work in numerous ways to discover the true nature of Hazil Inc. and to learn who is responsible for the attacks. I will be leading this mission, but Jedi Knight Gray here will be my second in command and will continue this briefing. Baron the floor is yours.”

The young doctor was enjoying the "show" provided by Paps & Taps. Briefings & lectures could be so tedious. Wonder if I can get them to teach me that? But their silliness did not lead her to underestimate their competence. She was about to compliment them, when...

the door to the briefing room opens to admit a woman in her early thirties dressed in a gray velvet gown. As she slowly looks around the room, the light glints off of the dangling silver earrings she wears...
As she makes progress toward Master Moondancer, she nods slightly to the others in the room or extends a hand in greeting...
Tija greets the noblewoman with impeccable politeness--Jedi arts & medicine weren't all her adoptive father had taught her.

In other words, so we're unavoidably aware of how much above us you are--in theory anyways, Tija thinks with more scorn than perhaps a Jedi should. But no trace of that scorn appears in the surgeon's expression or voice. Instead she studies the Lady Aurum and her clothing, in case she ever needs to use such a disguise; she allows her expression to show only faint hints of what might be awe or even envy. Well, I only have to work with her, not swear lifetime fealty, so it's doable. But I'll keep company with the twins, when I can.

When Master Moondancer calls the meeting to order, Dr. Aurelian turns her atttention completely to the Master. One hand rests on her datapad, in case she wants to make notes or look up something. The young Jedi watches Gray as he moves to the table, admiring his grace & ease. She nods her agreement to see the mission through, along with the others.
.

...Almost immediately after installation, amazingly well coordinated attacks began to occur on our forces, mostly in the outer rim and away from the core worlds.

Tija's attitude turns almost somber as she mulls this over. Was that what happened to the Sabres a few weeks ago? she wondered. Danny Aurelian's old squadron had suffered severe casualties, & at the request of the current CO, the elderly Jedi surgeon had shipped out to help with the most severely injured. "You never really stop being part of a squadron like that," he'd told her many times. If so, I'm even happier to be in on this--something for him, & Mom & Dad.

...I will be leading this mission, but Jedi Knight Gray here will be my second in command and will continue this briefing. Baron the floor is yours.”

Master Moondancer's words brought the doctor's attention back to the briefing from her own musings. There was something about the Baron that she found almost compelling.

But 'e be telling you one thing. 'e feels sorry for anyone trying to stop us. Between that brute over there,", indicating Brix, " and mister tattoo...and this." With a twist of his wrist, a deadly hold-out blaster appeared in his paw.

Brix peripherally caught the quick movement of the cat and reached for his sidearm in a blurred reflex, not bothin to get up, botheirn to remember he wasnt wearing it. When the young female's head didnt explode he figured the alien was just sowing off. As his nerves relaxed again, he realized how funny the twins were. A hold out blaster "Tssk Tssss Stss", he chuckled.

His humor caused him to completely over-look the entrance of the new Jedi. The steadiness of Moondancer's voice caught his attenion though and he emptied his of mere speculation to realy listen.

Gray glanced idly at Kali and nodded almost imperceptibly. He shifts his weight, pushing himself away from the wall without any sort of locomotion. He paces across the room and leans into another corner, forcing the people paying attention to shift around, which brings everyone's attention to Gray.

"As Moondancer told you, we're not the first wave in this investigation. This leaves us with certain...freedoms in regards to how we go about this investigation. As such, Moondancer will be 'approaching from the front'," as it were, while I will...sneak up from behind..." He smirks, a very unsettling image, and continues, "...as it were."

Knowing he has the group's attention, he once again moves off the wall and begins to pace around the room, carefully assuring himself that everyone is paying attention. "In order to expedite my task, I require the assistance of certain amongst you to facilitate an adequate cover." Gray stops and faces Lady Aurum. "My lady, I am certain we will figure out a suitable role for myself to be in your entourage, will we not?"

He moves on, not deigning to wait for an answer. He continues his slow, predatorial pacing until he comes to the Barabel officer. "Lieutenant, you'll be posing as a bodyguard. Something, I'm told, shouldn't be too much of a stretch for someone of your particular skills."

Gray turns and walks to a position comfortably distant from most of the group and continues, "I do not expect this to be a pleasure cruise by any means, although I suspect it may look like one at times. My group will seek transport with an...independant freighter captain whose reputation is top notch." He folds his arms across his chest and glances at Kali. "I'll field questions now, if I must."

Gray stops and faces Lady Aurum. "My lady, I am certain we will figure out a suitable role for myself to be in your entourage, will we not?"

Lady Aurum gestures elegantly with a hand, preparing an adequately polite response, but before she could even open her mouth to speak, the Jedi Master turns and continues his irritating prowling around the room. Lady Aurm glowers at his back for a second, then carefully schools her face to its previous neutral expression.

Impudent man! Lady Aurum greatly hoped he ended up playing the role of her manservant. She could see to it that he was not so haughty then, at least while he was forced to keep up pretenses. She had to suppress a smirk as the image of this oh-so-confident Jedi laden down with her luggage floated into her mind’s eye. Following her through the city thoroughfares, he was completely ignored by the same individuals who fawned over her ladyship to an extensive degree. While it would not be true, at least she would derive some enjoyment from such a façade.

Now the Jedi addressed the Barabel lieutenant, who it appeared he intended to play the role of bodyguard. Well, at least he shouldn’t be so bothersome as the other.

As the Jedi continued, she sighed inwardly. An “independent” ship captain could be anything from a pirate to a smuggler. Regretfully, she was reminded of the corporate yacht she once had. The Opportunity had been a beautiful ship, with luxurious rooms. But, like the majority of her possessions, it had been confiscated when she was arrested.

Well, I shall just have to rough it for a while I suppose.

Brix watches the Baron and as he seemed to furtively pace the floor. The junior officier wondered at the risk factor of the mission given the apparent nervousness of the Jedi warrior.

"In order to expedite my task, I require the assistance of certain amongst you to facilitate an adequate cover."..."Lieutenant, you'll be posing as a bodyguard. Something, I'm told, shouldn't be too much of a stretch for someone of your particular skills."

The reptile nods his understanding of his cover role in the mission: bodyguard. He figured he could pull it off. Be silent. Obediant to the lady. And pay attention, which ofcourse wouldnt be a prob...he'd likely get to wear sharp valet garb like the type nobles wear.

Brix turned to the Lady Aurum, scrutinizing her attire. Shimmersilk? Rodian velure?, he wondered.

Kali listened as Gray detailed his part of the mission, she smiled slightly as he shifted about the room, he seemed intent on keeping everyone on their toes. As he concluded she moved over to where he was standing. With the groups attention still fixed Kali decided to finish detailing the mission.

“Well as Gray mentioned he will be working on the covert aspect on this first part of the mission. The remainder of you here will pose as part of my Noble entourage, Mykel as my bodyguard, Tija my handmaiden, Paps as my driver, Taps you will be staying in the background to keep an eye on things and serve in any other capacity that arises. Those of you coming with me, our transport is waiting for us not far from you. The Independent Captain that Gray mentioned is ready to lift off, Gray will lead his team to the Fine Mess, your transport and we will meet up on Bothawui. We will be staying in separate hotels, but they are close by. Both are quite luxurious and we all most maintain our roles when in public, we must be very careful to not draw attention to ourselves in anyway. Should Hazil make any connection between our two groups our cover will be blown and our lives jeopardized. Does anyone have any questions?”

Del was anxious to get this show on the road. It wasn't often that NRI contacted a civilian to perform a classified operation. It had occured to him earlier that this might be a trap, set up to lure some of Del's more unsavory friends into the open. "Like it would matter, I haven't done anything illegal, and even New Republic spooks would have a difficult time tracking down some of my contacts." Del thought quietly.
"Yabba too blum tubma." Tllp murmured.
"Will you quit worrying so much." Del retorted. "I'm sure this is a legitimate job. Besides, we have the easy part. All we have to do is sit back and fly these nerfs around. They're the ones that will be doing all the dirty work! We're not getting paid to get our noses bloodied!"
"Yabba bloo babba tlum pumma tabba rpma." Tllp blurted.
Del took his feet off the forward computer screen and turned towards his paranoid Sullustan co-pilot. The scorn that rolled across his face was met with a look of apprehension by the jowl-faced Sullustan.
"Don't patronize me!" Del spat. "I received my managerial position through hard work and a clean track record. What's your excuse!"
"Tlub brum tuabba tum." Tllp said as he looked away.
"That's what I thought." Del whispered. "Now, if these nerfs will kindly comm me so we can get on with this, I'd feel much better."

Paps and Taps had both directed their attention to Moondancer when she requested it, without any problems what so ever. They both found it easy to watch her. When the Baron came up, Paps felt a shiver down his back. The man was unsettling to both Far’ghuls.

: As such, Moondancer will be 'approaching from the front'," as it were, while I will...sneak up from behind..." He smirks, a very unsettling image, and continues, "...as it were."

Paps snorted. Well that’s bally well informative. Taps had the same thought also and leaning over to Paps, whispered, “What the kriff does he mean by that?”
Paps gave a very slight shrug and responded, “’e don’t know, chap. He hasn’t worked in Intel before, that be sure.”

: "My lady, I am certain we will figure out a suitable role for myself to be in your entourage, will we not?" He moves on, not deigning to wait for an answer. He continues his slow, predatorial pacing until he comes to the Barabel officer. "Lieutenant, you'll be posing as a bodyguard. Something, I'm told, shouldn't be too much of a stretch for someone of your particular skills."

The twins glanced at the lady that had entered earlier. “Lucky him,” Paps muttered. “ she looks like a pleasant person now don’t she?”

: Paps as my driver, Taps you will be staying in the background to keep an eye on things and serve in any other capacity that arises.

Paps shot Taps a look. He didn’t like Taps going solo at all. Paps preferred to keep an eye on Taps. Taps gave him a look and Paps knew Taps would kill him if he said anything. You must trust your twin. He is not new at this game. He can handle it. Kriff it though. I wonder who Intel dug up to be the freighter pilot? Frell, ‘e be havin to go over the files. Bothan street maps, that I be needin. I wonder if there is time to get it from NRI databanks?
Taps spoke to Kali. “Mistress Jedi, now what ‘u be meaning, in the background? Undercover? Will ‘e be associated with ‘u and your party or not?”
Paps also voiced a concern. He was business now, leaving the care-free nature behind. He still sported an air of amusement, but the Far’ghul was paying very close attention. “What about aliases? What is Intel fixing us up with? will we be issued ID cards? Is Intel deploying a decoy team? Plus Mistress, if I may make a point. We havin two nobles and their entourages, that seems a wee bit … obvious. We be havin no variety? It just seems, Miss, that we might want to slip into planet with one high-profile group and another… not so high-profile. When you be sayin not to draw attention, well now, if you be havin the role of noble, that tends to draw attention, now don’t it lassie?”
Kriffing sithspawn. These be amateurs. Who the frell sat them up in NRI? Paps thought with frustration. He grinned a bit. Well, ‘e always wanted the chance to see Bothawui, now ‘e be getting that chance. ‘e just hopes ‘e comes out alive…should get some kicks though!

...Definately some kind of velvet Brix concluded.

Paps', or was it Taps', questions roused the officier from his fashion projections. Had he been chewing the gristle again? Yes. Annoyed at his gaps of attention he decided to add something constructive.

"I have no urrrgent quessstionss at thiss time, Missstressss Moondancer. Asss for aliassses, I agrrree with...him.", he gestured indicating which ever twin posed the inquiry.

Mykel listened quietly and carefully, paying full attention to the details of the mission. The leader spoke a bit and asked for questions, which he also listened to, thinking of his own.

Paps also voiced a concern. He was business now, leaving the care-free nature behind. He still sported an air of amusement, but the Far’ghul was paying very close attention. “What about aliases? Speaking up, Mykel agrees, "Ma'am," he starts, "I have to agree with..." he pauses, trying to make sure he has the right name of the twins, "um, Paps here. We've got two entirely similar groups going in at the same time. It seems too coincidental. And a noble," he refers to the Baron, "going in on an independent freighter? That doesn't seem to make sense. Why wouldn’t he come on a luxury cruiser or chartered yacht? My background would tell me at least to keep my eyes on him, and not the other way around.”

He rubs his chin, “My other concern lies with having me as a body guard. While I’ll be happy to fill the role, I’m really more suited to gathering data and watching quietly from afar. Perhaps Taps and I should swap roles? You can always call me in to work infiltration thereafter, and it is just my opinion, but could be viewed strangely from afar.

Gray stops and faces Lady Aurum. "My lady, I am certain we will figure out a suitable role for myself to be in your entourage, will we not?" He moves on, not deigning to wait for an answer.
The Baron Errant's pacing was making Tija uneasy--and she wan't the only one, her empathic abilities told her. She barely concealed her amusement as Lady Aurum's indignation at Gray Errant's lack of deference blossomed.

He continues his slow, predatorial pacing until he comes to the Barabel officer. "Lieutenant, you'll be posing as a bodyguard...

As the older Jedi's steps took him on to her seat, the young surgeon stiffened slightly, expecting him to address her, but instead the Baron passed her by and began addressing the entire party once more. The Force is certainly with me! I was certain he was going to make me Her Imperious Highness' personal maid! She's a prettified Hutt!

Those of you coming with me, our transport is waiting for us not far from you..."

Tija was relieved that she wouldn't be going with the Kuat noblewoman, although she had wanted an opportunity to work with Gray, being intrigued by him. But she was surprised by Master Kali's plans for her. Father would get a laugh out of this. I cannot avoid being someone's maid on my maiden mission! Well, it should not be so bad. I'm sure she'll guide me on how to act--& will be much nicer than Lady Aurum.

Tija also watched the reactions of her new friends--she wanted them to be her friends anyway--the Farghuls. Baron Errant had much the same effect on them as on her. It was also clear to her that Paps at least didn't care at all to be separated from Taps. She hoped the pair would be able to manage. She'd met sets of twins & triplets who could not handle being farther apart than different bedrooms in the same dwelling for more than a few hours. Well, they were all younger & more sheltered--less worldly--than these 2. Still, Mr. Ferrell's idea might be safest.

Tija decided to listen to the others' questions--& the anwers they received--before voicing any of her own.

Gray listened intently to all of the issues that arose when Moondancer finished outlining the plan. Some he'd expected, including the reticence of the twins to separate. Others he hadn't really, especially Mykel's rather astute opinion on use of the Independant Freighter Captain as transport means. He scratched his chin briefly, then glanced at Kali. She caught his look and waited.

"An interesting point you bring up about the Captain we've chartered. One that I believe I can spin to your liking. Lady Aurum was just recently released from detention. Only those of us in this room and higher up in the Intel hierarchy know why. Everyone else assumes or has been led to believe she was parolled based on recent findings in regards to her case. She was stripped of assets prior to her incarceration, and travelling via an Independant Freighter to make her first business arrangement post-release becomes significantly less suspicious." Gray paused to straighten his robes. "I believe this will be adequate explanation for the circumstances of her arrival. Aside from that, Captain Messer is one of the few reputable and respectable Captains we looked into for this mission. The Fine Mess is a sturdy and reliable vessel, with respectable appointments. I daresay the Captain would be able to run a shuttle service if his desires dictated such."

Gray pauses to pull on the lip of his boots, readjusting them to their standard position.

"Whereas, if we were to venture to Bothawui under the pretense of my entourage, we'd have to use one of my family's vessels, very likely one of the charter yachts, and be conspicuous about our arrival. Lady Aurum's declineation to be seen arriving on such an uncelebritous vessel gives us plenty of reason to be quiet about our entrance."

He glances over at Kali, apparently finished with his explanation.

Kali nodded approvingly to Gray as he finished answering the questions in his realm of knowledge.

“Mistress Jedi, now what ‘u be meaning, in the background? Undercover? Will ‘e be associated with ‘u and your party or not?”

Kali faced the two twins and let a slight smile cross her face. “Fear not Taps you will play an important role in this mission. Since you and Paps are identical to all but the most keen observers it will be an asset to have our enemy only know of the existence of one you, having the same person in two different places can be helpful at times.”

Kali turned to Mykel and casually gestured in his direction “You raise good points, but we have solutions for those as well. You are correct that two nobles arriving at the same time seeking out Hazil Inc. might arouse suspicion, but I am not seeking out Hazil Inc. I am seeking Mr. Hazil. He will be under the impression that I am seeking a mate and have been traveling the galaxy meeting potential suitors. Your capacity of my body guard will only be a guise, much of the you will be performing other duties of a more covert nature.”

“As for aliases, the NRI has compiled a full set for the lot of us, they will be distributed once onboard, Gray holds his teams and I have the remainder. Now if there are no more questions we will proceed to Bothawui.”

Mykel lets the two superiors give their well thought-out responses listening quietly and attentively. He nods as they both wrap up their rejoinders, folding his arms across his chest as he leans back against the wall. Mykel’s expression even turns a bit meek, as he acknowledges them quietly, “Those both make great sense. I’m sorry for the dumb questions. Seems like everything’s in order.”

No luck breaking onto Hazil, all info suggests me to try inside their computer site. Hope the group helps me break in. Will return to hotel right now, today's seafood buffet! Since you and Paps are identical to all but the most keen observers it will be an asset to have our enemy only know of the existence of one you, having the same person in two different places can be helpful at times.”

Taps nodded his feline head, scarf bouncing with him. "Ay, me an' Paps done that before. Swapping each other out. Makes sense."
Paps stroked his furry chin. Then there will be no needs for disguse. I want to try my new color-crawlers but I guess not this time.

“You raise good points, but we have solutions for those as well. Paps shook his head. He pointed to the Jedi with his paw and spoke with a serious voice. "Miss Jedi, if e’ may bring up another point? This is bad. We still have two nobles, only one is seeking out the head of a company we are trying to infiltrate, the other is just trying to infiltrate. ‘u are going to have gain so much bally trust from Mr. Hazil that he will not have any suspicions. And if ‘u will be courting this man, that will place us under higher scrutiny. ‘e am confident of me abilities, but there are others in here that are…inexpiernced." Paps tilted his head and gave a sigh. "I believe me comrades can pull this off. It just be that we are drawing attention to ourselves by having an ex-criminal and a noble trying to date our target landing on the planet and prancing around. Do we be wanting all that bally attention? Just a wee little concern ma’am. But if that be the cards you wanting to play, so be it. But ‘e warning you. There just might be a skifter in the deck. ‘e just wants a higher level of insurance that we bally well coming out of this alive.” Paps sat back in his chair and was silent for a moment. After soothing the fears of the others, Jedi Moondancer addressed the Lieutenenat's concerns about aliases. Reasonably satisfied, he knew a breifing dismissal when he heard it.

Brix rose from his seat and was proceeding towards the door when the more assertive of the two felines objected again. In this he heard tell-tale signs: "...This is bad...‘u are going to have gain so much bally trust...‘e am confident of me abilities...are…inexpiernced...‘e warning you..."

Then the question that made more of a statement then any: "...how many Intel operations have you been on?”

Even Brix, not the most perceptive of beings, could hear the undermining of the Mistress' command. This from some no-account con-kitty afraid of risky work. Patience was a Jedi trait, not his. The officier turned back to the table and slammed his claw onto the surface, just shy of fracturing the wood.

He looked down the table at Paps and in a cool voice asked, "If you do not trrrusst the competence of the New Rrrepublic, it'ss rreprressentativess, and arrre not herrre ass ssome kind of plea barrrgain to rreduce a crriminal sssentence maybe you should back out now."

Mykel was surprised at the alien twins' blatant disrespect. It seemed inconcievable that they would just outright challenge the Operation Commander's authority like they did. Even though he did not disagree with Paps' opinions, it did not seem the place or time to make such bold statements about the lack of her experience.

Setting his back against the wall, he wisely keeps his mouth shut and watches to see what her reaction will be. Indeed, the manner in which she will react will help to dictate the future attitudes the rest of the operatives will have outwardly towards her during the mission.

“Brix thank you for your support, but I can handle this, I believe Paps was merely looking out for the safety of the group. However, there is a proper way to address your commander in charge, which if you have not noticed I am. I encourage all forms of input, but remember your place and practice some tact. I would not fear Hazil scrutinizing the others working with me too closely, Zeltronian women do not have much difficulty in making men do their bidding, especially ones with Hazil’s appetite for women. As for us “prancing around” there will be very little of that, Gray’s team will keep a very low profile, they are on Bothawui for business alone.” Kali stopped for a moment and smiled, she did not want to berate Paps, but a dissension this early on could tear the diverse group apart. “Now if this does not quell your fears, you may remain here under the care of the NRI until our mission is completed, which will it be?”

Paps bowed his head a bit apparently in thought, moments later his head rose with a smile. “I be coming, would leave Tapsy here all bally alone.”

“Alright then, we were getting behind schedule here so if you have any other questions they are going to have to wait, my team with me, and the rest with Knight Gray.”

Kali walked over to Gray and spoke a few private words, the tattooed man nodded several times. “I’ll see you on Bothawui Gray, may the force be with you.”

“You as well Moondancer.”

“For those of you going with Gray, I will see you on Bothawui.” The rest of Kali’s team rose and followed her out the door with Gray and his team trailing. Kali led her team to a spacious docking bay.

Tija’s eyes light up as she looked at the ship before her. “Are we going in that?”

Kali regarded the Luxury 3000 and smiled back at the younger Jedi. “Well a girls got travel in style.” The small group boarded the spacious ship and Paps followed Kali to cockpit, Kali indicated the pilots chair. “She’s all yours Paps.”

Mykel was pleased as how their leader handled Paps' objections. She played it cool and calm, carefully listing why the said plan was good. And that was good enough for him.

He followed out the door silently and into the docking bay. His personal bag with his private gear was to be already loaded by the time the meeting was done. The ship was definately impressive, but he quietly kept his thoughts to himself.

As Paps steps into the cockpit and assumes the pilot's chair, Mykel follows close on his heels, looking for a communication console where he can fit in. He has very little time at the controls of a starship, but can help out with other various tasks, and figures that's probably what the boss wants for now. Until he hears otherwise, he's just helping out the feline pilot take care of the backup work.

Gray watched as Kali and her team departed, leaving the room rather sparse. He pulled a comlink out of one of the folds of his cloak an tapped it once, then spoke into it. "Captain Messer, we'll be joining you shortly."

Although a bit quiet and somewhat garbled, the Captain's response was fairly obvious to the room's only other two occupants. "About time."

Gray led the erstwhile companions quietly out of the room and towards their docking bay.

************* Aboard the Fine Mess ****************

Gray had handed Brix a "uniform" and some standard bodyguard equipment out of his quarters, and let Lady Aurum know that a full wardrobe had been accomidated for her needs in her quarters, including a large selection of jewels. He then ducked into his own room, doffed his robes and slid into a valet's uniform. He looked at himself in the mirror. At least it doesn't stand out as much as the robes do. Gray adjusted the collar on the garish purple jacket re-tucked the military-style pants into his boots. He added a gunbelt and a blaster pistol to his ensemble, and tucked his lightsaber into the inside pocket of the jacket. He toyed with the idea of applying the tattoo-masking nuskin now, but decided to wait until they were closer to Bothawui.

Gray exited his quarters to meet Captain Messer on the bridge shortly before the jump to hyperspace.

Gray led the erstwhile companions quietly out of the room and towards their docking bay.

Del set the comlink down and swiveled in his chair. Tllp looked at him with his large bulbous black eyes. Del informed his co-pilot that the party was on its way.
"Remember, they're guests on our ship." Del said pointedly. "We're receiving a lot of credits for this, so mind your manners."
"Blub tumma trub foom da lum." Tllp responded.
"Good, now go release the landing ramp." Del ordered.
As Tllp disappeared down the Fine Mess's corridor, Del quickly made a mental check on the cargo compartments and storage area. "I hope I didn't forget to unload those sensor mask units." Del told himself. "How embarrassing would that be to get caught with them before we even take off? Granted they aren't mine and I wasn't going to smuggle them, but that would be a hard story to believe for these New Republic types."
It was only a few minutes later when the operatives entered the old Action VI. Tllp greeted them in Sullustese and pointed them to the bunk area before he rejoined Del in the cockpit.
"Hrum doa eh jlup barabua." Tllp informed.
"Two humans and a Barabel eh? Keep an eye on the Barabel's bunk. Oh, and remember that at least one of our guests is a Jedi, so be respectful." Del said as he wandered back towards the new passengers.

Gray exited his quarters to meet Captain Messer on the bridge shortly before the jump to hyperspace.

Before Del could leave the entrance, one of the humans approached the cockpit entrance. The man wore a purple jacket and military-esque pants with a gunbelt strapped around his waist. His purple eyes caught Del offguard, as well as the tattoos, but the experienced freighter captain quickly covered it up and extended his hand.
"Captain Del Messer of the Fine Mess. You've already met Tllp here. Don't let the ship's name fool you, she's as reliable as they come." Del said with a grin.

Taps was still shaken by the angry Barabel. The reptile had petrified him to the core, and he was still recovering. Although he had been surprised at Paps' response, he knew what Paps was thinking. Both felines were worried about Jedi heading an Intel Ops. After listening to Kali's response, he decided that it might work out.

Paps, scared too by the Barabel's outburst, was beginning to think he had made a tactical error. Hmmm, much more loyal then the Imps. Never worked with Jedi before, better brush up on manners. Paps ol' boy, we need to be a little 'ore polite to Miss Kali. They not understand that that be a joke. Insensible reptile. 'e was lucky 'e don't work with 'em.

As the rest of the team made their way out the doors and followed Kali, Taps whispered to his twin as they followed Taji. "Whada 'e think they be giving you to drive?"

Paps shrugged. Knowing the stingyness of the NRI he replied with a grin. "Oh, some piece of junk that can barely fly and....San tie mi polo! he said in Far'ghul as he stepped into the hangar. He stared at the gorgouse craft, then turned to Kali. He made a grand bow.

"Miss Jedi, I take back what 'e said. If 'e has to fly that thing, 'e be glad to go."

Boarding the luxury yatch, he spied his and Taps NRI bag stuffed in the corner. He nodded in satisfaction as he headed to the cockpit.

The small group boarded the spacious ship and Paps followed Kali to cockpit, Kali indicated the pilots chair. “She’s all yours Paps.”

"With pleasure ma'am!"

Paps dropped into the pilot seat and grinned at the state-of-the-art controls. He fired up the craft and begun to ask for clearance from Control. Receiving it, he smoothly slide the craft out of the hangar, grinning at the ease and smooth of control. He spied Mykal coming into the cockpit. The feline swung the yatch into space and passed space traffic until he was in orbit. He frowned for a moment. He had the most recent hyperspace lane data, but there was a way to shave off a few days on transit time. Paps tapped away on his datapad and performed the calculation. He nodded. After keying in a different route into the nav, Paps turned to Kali. "Permission to jump, Jedi ma'am!"

Meanwhile Taps had opened his gear bag and went through his costumes and color-changers. After taking an inventory, he pulled out a brand new T-6. He and Paps had just bought them several days ago and the barrel still shined with store polish. Paps liked blasters and insisted that they bring them. Taps ran his paw across the barrel then put it away. He rummaged around in his bag, then found his Kloo horn. With nothing better to do, he started to twiddle on it gently as the yatch plunged into space...

As she followed Master Kali out of the meeting room, Tija still felt only relief that their leader had eased the situation. The young Jedi apprentice knew how close things had come to a fight, and was quite glad the twins & the Barabel were on separate teams. I was surprised at the 3 of them. It doesn't take an experienced NRI operative to know that both questioning your leader's competence and quarreling with a colleague are bad ways to begin a mission. Even this sheltered little Jedi girl knows that. I will have to remember how Master Kali handled them.

But the sight of their ship took her mind off the disagreement. She had never been on such a fancy ship.

Kali regarded the Luxury 3000 and smiled back at the younger Jedi. “Well a girls got travel in style.”
Tija grinned back, "Oh, yes!" This will be fun! Unlike many both in & out of the Order, Tija Aurelian was not shocked by a Jedi Master with a sense of fun. Danny still had a lot of that attitude, in spite of age & whatever tragedies the Clone Wars & Purge had visited on him. She had picked up on a lot of it, too.

Tija located her cabin easily, it adjoined Master Kali's cabin & was slightly smaller. However, it was bigger than the rooms she was used to. As a small "squadron brat" she'd only had a tiny room. Then, after her parents died she'd gone to live in Danny's modest but comfortable apartment. And Jedi accommodations on Yavin IV were equally simple. She found her larger medical bag & personal bag in the cabin. To her delight, there was also a selection of gowns & accessories appropriate to a nbole's maid or personal assistant. Checking the dresses closely, Tija found that there were deep concealed pockets in the skirts. Yes, my lightsaber will fit! she grinned. The young doctor quickly changed into septsilk that shaded from deep green to pale blue, then went looking for her Mistress.

She was distracted by the sound of a Kloo horn. Must be Taps. Think I'll steal a few minutes to be a just a fan--hope he doesn't mind. Tija slipped over.

“You may make the jump when ready Paps, notify me an hour before reentry to realspace. Mykel if you would follow me.” Mykel gracefully followed Kali to his cabin, Kali opened the closest door reveling several different suits and other fine clothes.

“These are for when performing your duties as my bodyguard, now there is something interesting about of these suits. For instance on the cuff is an encrypted comlink, which will enable you to make secure communications with anyone on the team, particularly Taps whom will have greater freedom than everyone else. We’ll talk more when we get on planet, I am going to check on Tija now.”

Mykel nodded and looked over the suits, he did not seem to enthusiastic about having to dress up. As Kali made her way back towards Tija’s room she heard a Kloo horn being played from Taps room. She peeked in and saw Tija listening to Taps play away with a grin on her face. She quietly snuck passed the room and into her own, Best to let them enjoy themselves while they can.

Kali went to her closest and punched in a twelve digit code to a small safe, from within she pulled out several sealed packets, each was a complete identity for her team members. She placed them in a small silver brief case and locked it.

Warm water cascaded over her as she used calming techniques taught in her early days of training. She slipped on Rodian silk undergarments, a diaphanous shimmer silk dress came on next. A smile crossed her face as she regarded herself in the mirror, the last thing anyone would suspect of her would be being a Jedi Master. I would love to see Master Skywalker’s expression now.

Kali headed to the observation deck and hit the ships intercom. “I need everyone on the observation deck.” As the team filed in she got a series of shocked looks at her attire, Tija seemed most surprised of all.

“First as an explanation such attire is not uncommon on my planet, thus is quite proper for this mission. Secondly from the moment we you are no longer your former selves.” She handed out the packets containing their new identities. “Learn them well, if you slip up in your cover story, we are all dead. Any questions?”

“Brix thank you for your support, but I can handle this, I believe Paps was merely looking out for the safety of the group."

Brix nodded to the Mistress and stood glancing between her and Paps while she replied. When she was finished he followed the Baron out of the room. About to head for his quarters for personal affects Gray told him things had been taken care of. Very efficient, the lieutenant thought.

Upon seeing the Fine Mess Brix immediately looked for any visible weapons and was pleased to see some, or what he interpeted as some. These things were a bit beyond the officier's ken.

A Sullustan, the co-pilot he discovered, greeted his party as they boarded. Brix shuttered at the sight of the small alien, involuntarily remembering the last one he'd encountered. They can't all be like that he reassured himself. Taking a deep breath he embarked, all the while keeping a wary eye on this Tllp character.

"Gray had handed Brix a "uniform" and some standard bodyguard equipment out of his quarters..."

A matte black velvet(?) jumpsuit with iridescent violet piping down the arms and legs. Brix full of anticipation, changed into it right there in the corridor, not noticing any awkward looks.

It felt a little snug he judged and became concerned of it's wear. Going to the cargo bay he passed on the way in he gave it a little test.

One after the other carefully: Left then right Palm strikes. Right Snap kick. Left Side kick. Left Under claw strike. So far so good.

Moving faster he tried stretching combos: Bite thrust, Double slash, Kneel turn, Rising left Leg thrust, Right Claw straight thrust ! This is better than any velvet!, he mused.

In the next few seconds he did the following: Shoulder roll left-Rising left under claw-Right Elbow-Right down slash-Left reverse kick-Right stomp kick-Forward somersault double claw-Rising double claw-Left Spinning round house kick-Double claw scissor rip-Bite thrust!

"HRAAH!"

The sound reverberated off the hull.

“You may make the jump when ready Paps, notify me an hour before reentry to realspace. Mykel if you would follow me.” Mykel gracefully followed Kali to his cabin, Kali opened the closest door reveling several different suits and other fine clothes.

Mykel looks over the clothes carefully as Kali describes them and points out certain features. In many ways he'd rather not have integrated gear. There were two problems with it. One, if you lost the clothing for some strange reason (and he had seen more strange reasons than he'd like to admit), then you lost the equipment. Two, if anyone inspected the clothing you couldn't just conveniently ditch the gear.

Still, he thought as he slipped into it, there are certain advantages. You can’t lose the gear as easily, for one. Two, it allowed for a wide variety of gear to accompany him without the bulk of his common utility belt.

The clothing was a bit stiff. It seemed, he thought, that NRI OpTech boys used a bit too much starch in the cleaning after they got through installing the fun toys. He played around in the outfit, looking for whatever toys he could find. Satisfied, and hearing the general com call to the observation deck, he strapped on the outside of his leg his heavy blaster pistol on his utility belt (even if the suit had plenty of gear, he didn’t have to go without his usual favorites), tucked his hold-out pistol in one boot and his knife in the other and moved off quickly and quietly to the rendezvous point.

Stepping inside, he found the leader of the group. He pondered for a moment on her natural beauty. He had studied history, and new full well of the animosity formed between their two peoples. Mykel imagined that if his ancestors had taken time to stop shooting and just look, that the Zeltronians wouldn’t have been such a key battle in their past. Then again, if the Zeltronians hadn’t tried to massacre his people in return, maybe they could have had a lasting peace.

Still pondering these thoughts he strode forward and took up a position behind Kali – probably against her wishes as she wanted to speak with the group – and off to one side, as a bodyguard should be.

“First as an explanation such attire is not uncommon on my planet, thus is quite proper for this mission. Secondly from the moment we you are no longer your former selves.” She handed out the packets containing their new identities. “Learn them well, if you slip up in your cover story, we are all dead. Any questions?”

Still silent, Mykel takes the packet and opens it, beginning to read and commit to memory as he had been taught to do with cover stories. He does not ask questions nor give any outward signs that he has none. His station is to quietly and visibly protect his charge, and he was already falling into character.

Quietly, in his mind, Mykel mused another thought as the group continued the meeting. At least acting as her bodyguard, he would be closer to the Re… he caught himself again, the Republic Intelligence lead official and that would be useful back at home.

After the disruptive way the meeting had ended, Lady Aurum was glad of the relative silence of the walk to the ship. Fortunately, her two companions seemed to be quite capable of holding their tongues when they had nothing of import to say, unlike certain members of the other party.

Upon reaching the ship, Lady Aurum was both disappointed and relieved. Disappointed to see the vessel was a common-looking bulk freighter, but also relieved to see that the vessel appeared to be in good running order. She had seen many of the “independent” ships some of her former associates employed and had doubted any of them were held together with anything but duct tape and a prayer. Hopefully this voyage would be uneventful and allow her time to prepare for the job at hand.

After boarding and being greeted by a Sullustan, evidently the co-pilot of the vessel, Baron Errant handed the Barabel lieutenant a uniform and directed Lady Aurum as to where her quarters could be found and informed her that a wardrobe had been provided for her by the New Republic government. Eager to see what they considered appropriate attire for her, she headed for her room, quickening her pace as she saw the Barabel officer beginning to disrobe behind her, evidently meaning to change right there in the corridor.

Her room was smaller than she was used to, but at least it was clean and functional. The small, but comfortable bed was covered in newly washed linens and her belongings had been set in the corner near the refresher. As she opened the closet, she was apprehensive as to what she might find, but her apprehension quickly faded as she saw the array of garments hanging there. There were garments for every occasion, all created from beautiful fabrics in conservative but modern fashions. These would do very well.

Next to the closet was a table on which sat a black jeweler’s box. Sliding back the lid, Lady Aurum smiled at the gems that lay within the box, neatly arranged according to style and color. As she picked up an artfully designed choker drowning in deep blue sapphires, she sighed, knowing that eventually these things would probably have to be returned to wherever the NR had gotten them. But at least for the time being they were hers.

After settling herself in and assuring the captain that her quarters were quite adequate, Lady Aurum retrieves a datapad from her luggage and sits down to study all the information she had been given on Hazil, Inc.

Meanwhile in Bothawui, P. Derek was preparing himself for his night adventure. He had located the computer site the day before. Passing as a computer illiterate was his favorite tactic.

I need to send this document, could anyone please help me? he had said. How does this card data thing fits in? This way? Oh, sorry, I can't stand computers or droids for that matter... And the hotel computer manager believed him... He took it to the computer site (not much, a couple of big computers for the hotel operation and that was it), and showed him a nice terminal to work with.

However the guard would remember him, so he waited patiently for the shift change and in that very moment he entered the site through an open window (he saw the computer manager closing it without putting the lock)...

He sat himself beneath the desk of the terminal he used the day before, connected his modified datapad to the terminal and turned it on...

"Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm... here we go!"

“You may make the jump when ready Paps, notify me an hour before reentry to realspace. Mykel if you would follow me.”

Paps nodded as he started the hyperdrive warm up. He confirmed the jump vector and slammed the jump switch. The star points straightened into starlines and spun into a tunnel. Paps sat back and grinned. He loved hyperspace.

Taps was not surprised that Tija had come to listen to him play. He rather enjoyed the Jedi's company and he played one of the band's more popular songs when the intercom squeaked. Kali's voice floated down and Taps stopped playing. "That was nice", said Tija as she glided out the room. Taps grabbed his T-6 from the gear bag and a scarf that he and Paps had made to hide the blasters. Wrapping the scarf around him, he hung the blaster inside. Paps' scarf and blaster were both in his gear bag, which Taps grabbed and brought with him. In the corridor his twin was humming as he walked along the wood lined hallway.

"Ah, Taps, it be a long time since 'e be flying a ship like this. Well, every since we highjacked The Purple Stone."

Taps shook his head. "Ya, remember what happened? Let's hope there is not a repeat. And 'ere be 'ur bag."

As the two twins walked into the lavish observations deck, they both stopped. Both looked at each other and Taps let out a low whistle. Paps grinned at Kali as they both stood near by.

“First as an explanation such attire is not uncommon on my planet, thus is quite proper for this mission.”

Paps nodded in agreement. "Aye, quite proper." Taps laughed out loud, then tried to stifle it. He snickered instead as Paps elbowed him, which made things worse. Taps got it under control as Kali handed him the twins packet.

As Taps ripped it open, Paps took a survey. Mykel was in some kind of bodyguard attire. He was off to the side, already in the role of bodyguard. Paps nodded in approval. This CSA officer had experience and knew his stuff. Paps could count on him. The Jedi Moondancer Paps still had not came to a decision on. While she would be successful in swooning Mr. Hazil, of that Paps had no doubt, but he wasn't sure how the Jedi could do in an Intel Ops. The other Jedi, Tija, he liked. She, however, was young. Even though she probably was the same age as he, Paps was had seen more action and had been around.

Taps pulled out three ID cards. One for each Far'ghul, plus one that they could share. Paps glanced through all three. He pulled out his personal ID card. Mister Kyle Lorran Drake Willebay? You have got to be kidding me!

"Willebay?" he said with contempt. He spied a handwritten note and read it. Ha! You Far'ghul Frell-head, this is payback!
Jak Riche

He groaned at his former superior and said out loud, "Miss Moondancer, for me an' Taps personal IDs, do ye want different disguises? Me and Taps will be a looking totally different, ‘cept for the one we be sharing, correct?"

A datacard with all the information for the character was also provided. Paps went through it quick on his datapad. Willebay was an educated, seroius Far'ghul who dispised folly. Paps rolled his eyes, Riche had made his revenge complete. He sobered his face, put a grave expression on and spoke without his Far'ghul accent. "Your speeder, ma'am. And where doth thy ma'am wish to travel upon to where? For thee is happy to convey thy to whereth thee would be content. " Taps bursted into laughter and Paps grinned a bit. Taps, still snickering, fired away another question. "Do you have in mind what 'e be looking like? 'e was thinking changing me color and elonging me tail. And changing eye color, oh, adding a mane too, ma'am."

Paps nodded gravely. "Ay Taps, anything will improve ye looks." Paps found his blaster and scarf and begun to hang his T-6 into the garment.

Smoothing her dress & hair as she went, Tija headed to the observation deck. She was very surprised--but probably not in the way her companions expected. While Jedi of this time dressed quite conservatively, not all those of the Old Republic did so. Although none of the Jedi her father had described dressed quite as--alluringly--as Master Moondancer. Tija found herself wishing her own wardrobe was less modest. She sternly reminded herself that handmaids were supposed to be nearly invisible. Well, no males, at least, will notice me when the Mas--Lady, is about. Hmm, I wonder if I can alter mine a little, so as to be noticed when she isn't there.

Tija took a place near Mster Kali. She opened her packet & skimmed over the information. Treesa Alderi, 18. Family from Alderaan, heirs of a biomedical manufacturing concern. They'd been responsbile for off-planet procduction facilities for years, so Treesa had seldom been to the planet. The destruction of Alderaan had left the family with little wealth. So Treesa had taken service to a noblewoman as the only respectable employment for a young, impoverished highborn girl. After skimming it, she read the document through carefully, using a Jedi memory exercise to help her fix the details quickly in her mind.

She almost could not keep from laughing out loud at the latest antics of her new Far-ghul pals. When Paps mentioned changing their appearance she resolved to offer to help them during the trip. Hopefully , they would agree to teach her a few skills she lacked, as well.

Gray looked over Captain Messer. Although Gray had read his profile twice before this encounter, he still hadn't met the Captain in person.

"Captain Messer, it looks as though you're all ready to depart. Let Moondancer's yacht go before us, our arrival will be better hidden in the wake of her appearance."

Gray pulled a datapad and NRID cards from one of his jacket's pockets and handed it Captain Messer. "Alternate identities for you and your co-pilot, in case we run into trouble."

Gray then turned back to the corridor, handing Brix, who was still in the hallway a full set of new identification, courtesy of the NRI. He approached Lady Aurum's door and decided to tone for entry.

"Come." He heard her through the doorway, and stepped through the opening hatch.

"A full set of alternate identification, should we run into trouble." Gray proferred the datapad and NRID card, and nodded to the Lady, then left her quarters.

Returning to his own bunk, Gray began to meditate.

Finally arriving at his bunk, Brix took time to learn the false ID the Baron, or whom ever he was now, gave him. The lieutenant was now Chahv, ex-bounty hunter freelance security consultant. Born and bred on Barab. This might be problem he considered as Brix had only visited the world of his people a hand full of times several years back.

Well this is supposed to be a lot more interesting than straight combat he reminded himself. Better practice my Brakelar, he thought as he cleared his voice.

"Hello. Krass. No, Krahsssh. I am Chahv. Roatuss...No, Chahv rroadusss 'ak. I am the Lady'ss guarrd. Guarrrd?...oh, Rroak'a ovokrrree borrrduva."

It was unlikely anyone would speak it to him this far over, but better safe than sorry.

"Sure, thanks." Del trailed off as he took the cards.

As the Jedi disappeared down the corridor, Del stared at him. "He has a presence about him." Del thought. "Something about his eyes; they seemed to look past me. It was almost as if the air became a bit cooler as well. Curious."
Tllp scurried past the departing figure and entered the cockpit.
"Is everyone settled?" Del questioned.
"Tlub tooma brum tamma ploo namba." Tllp muttered.
"Glad to hear it." Del said, raising his voice. "Sit your carcass down and wait for the yacht to clear before we depart. And watch your mouth." Del added.
"Oorm namma tum." Tllp said.
"Fine, fine, don't worry about. It's not a big deal." Del said in a softer tone. "I'm going to go check on our other two guests; feel free to comm me when we hit hyperspace."
As Del knocked on Lady Aurum's door, he pitied himself briefly. "Not only do they give me a paranoid Sullustan co-pilot, but a smart-alleck too!"

As the team went off to their quarters and to tend their tasks before the mission Kali remained on the observation desk. She began to meditate focusing on the force and clearing her mind of all its worries.

P.Derek typed rapidly on the computer terminal, data streamed before him, most of it useless. As he worked an idea came to him and he quickly began to implement it. Minutes later he was smiling as he crawled back out the window, he had created a program that would send the information of all incoming guest to his datapad, in addition to anything else logged in the hotel computers system. Smiling happily he returned to his room to check who was staying with them in the hotel.

Kali snapped out her meditation as the ship board comm announced they were an hour away from reversion to realspace. With graceful ease Kali stood up and headed to the cockpit. “Ok Paps when we bring her take it nice and easy no need to get into any trouble from the get go.” Kali patted the feline pilot on the shoulder and took a seat eager to get planetside.

“Oy lady Moondancer here we go.” Moments later they reverted back into realspace. Paps piloted them into the traffic lanes smoothly.

“Paps when we land your going to go grab the speeder, you wont be able to miss it.”

Kali gathered everyone about and described their roles to them for making the trip to the hotel. They landed without incident and Paps headed off to get the speeder, Taps shifted uncomfortably in the cloak meant to hide his appearance. Tija stoop to the right of Kali and three paces back, ready to aid her lady. Mykel would lead them down the ramp and to the speeder when Paps commed in.

While everyone else checked their ID, Taps pulled up the datacard and scanned it. Taka Yei, a simple peasant, who worked on merchants ships for a living. No family, no friends. Taps nodded his approval. It allowed him to move with freedom. And yet he could attach to the group if needed by the pretense as a hired servant. He noticed a side note that said his aliase spoke Huttese. Good, Taps knew Huttese fairly well also. he begun to sort through his mind of the appropriate peasant disguise.

Paps meanwhile figured that he was to be dignified and snobby. His persona was a Far’ghul who was working up the social ladder. He knew exactly what his role was, for he had been a butler once on an Intel Ops. Paps figured he would be arrogant and aloof. The Far’ghul spoke very fine Basic, so Paps would have to watch his accent and be sure to annunciate clearly. His parents had always explained to him the importance of flucating the voice, allowing for ventriloquist tricks and speaking with Corellian or other accents.

He and Taps went off to their quarters. There they started their transformation. Taps put contacts on to change his eyes to yellowish color. His hair was chopped, and a fabric tail extension was added. Then Paps carefully took a laser burning and burned a scar-looking tissue down his face. Then gel pads with fur coating were added to his arms and legs, to give him the look of a muscular peasant who had seen hard life. Rough, simple garments, with a large cloak hung down. A T-6, holo-minicam, mini-macrobinocs and an encrypted comlink was hidden in secret pouches.

Paps put color crawlers on himself, which were caterpillars who crawled down him, changing the color of his fur. It gave him a slivery, sheen glaze to his fur. His eyes were changed to blue and his mane was cut. Hair was longer by fibers added to his mane, then he polished his teeth ‘till they shined. His expensive shoes had lifts in them to give him a height boost. A mono-eyeglass was added to one eye. A T-6, Happy Surprise, holo-minicam, lapel comlink and his special neck recorder was added to him also. He wore an expensive Corellian Tux with no hat. He glanced at himself in the mirror and decided he was quite handsome. Both Far’ghuls, pleased with their appearance, left the quarters, Paps heading towards the cockpit and Taps headed towards the lounge.

Paps soon announced over the intercom reversion was in one hour. Hyperspace time was much faster due to his course adjustment.

“Ok Paps when we bring her take it nice and easy no need to get into any trouble from the get go.” Kali patted the feline pilot on the shoulder and took a seat eager to get planetside.

Paps paused for a moment at the Zeltron’s touched but he summoned his courage and dropped out of hyperspace. A quick dialogue with Bothan control got him permission to land. Bringing them smoothly into a traffic lane, he slowly lowered the vessel into a spaceport. ”We have arrived, my Lady.” said Paps in perfect Basic. He stood and motioned for the Zeltron to exit the cockpit.

Walking with a stiff, aloof stride, he made his way out the cockpit and down the ramp. Glancing around as he headed towards a nice luxury speeder, he took in the surroundings, analyzing threats and making mental notes. The speeder was un-locked and he dropped into the driver’s seat.

Taps, meanwhile, was having problems with his cloak. It was cutting into his neck, choking him, because it was not designed for a tailed species. He was uncomfortable and was getting cross. After fiddling around, he finally got it to a somewhat tolerable position.

”Me lady, I will exit after your party has left.”

Taps did not want to be seen with the party. The speeder pulled up at the end of the ramp and Paps exited. He went around it then opened the passenger compartment door. ”Your speeder, my Lady.”

Mykel spent most of the rest of the trip studying his cover story. Actually, that was inaccurate. He spent another thirty minutes studying it, and then had it down. At that point, he moved around the ship once, more or less doing a silent sweep, and more or less in character. After that, he took a nap and relaxed, knowing that it was most likely that their excursions would leave little time for it on the planet, if he could sleep at all.

Initially, he wondered how NRI would go about writing a back story for a Zeltron to have hired a Nagai as a bodyguard. While he knew his people had a reputation for battle. He found that they had created a persona, one Trahir Espion. Trahir's grandfather had been taken prisoner in a battle that the Nagai lost with the Zeltrons. Choosing a bride in the Nagai prison camps, Trahir's grandfather started a new branch of the family tree, where they would be raised on Zeltron.

After the camp had been disbanded, a nobleman hired the grandfather's family to serve as personal protectors and aides around the estate. It has been a family tradition ever since. There is little other listed about Trahir, mostly because it is not befitting his station to know much about him; he is proficient in small arms and close combat, and likely had a wide array of skills at his disposal to use in the line of duty. He quietly serves his role faithfully, but that is the extent to the knowledge about him.

As directed, Trahir leads the party down the ramp, did a quick scan of the docking area, and then waited for the communiqué from Paps. The noblewoman and her handmaiden follow him carefully and cautiously, heading what should be his continual warnings for their concern. Trahir had already decided that most likely the Zeltron noble blatantly ignored his warnings for her safety all too often, making security that much more difficult.

The speeder pulled up at the end of the ramp and Paps exited. He went around it then opened the passenger compartment door. ”Your speeder, my Lady.”

Trahir assumed that Mister Kyle Lorran Drake Willebay, the Far'ghul butler, would have already checked out the speeder. That is part of their standard security arrangement, and Trahir had requested that Willebay do just that before the ship put in at the docking bay. Since Willebay was holding the door open, Trahir just stood back, waiting for the ladies to get in, and watching all the time for hidden threats to emerge.

When the women were in the vehicle, and Willebay started back for the driver’s door, Trahir slipped to the passenger side and got in the front with the butler/driver.

He watched an ad for used astromech droids, he had wanted one of those from a long time ago, to be his companion and mobile computer station when handling some though jobs... prices were very good but wondered about the quality a Squib could offer. 2,000 credits for an R7? Probably just a disguised R4!

Anyway, he fell asleep with the big smile of a confident man.

The briefing over, Tija went back to her cabin, she spent sometime reviewing what she had on Far'ghul & Nagai physiology, hidden files on her datapad. She then began working with her wardrobe. For outer wear, she selected a long full cape, whose concealed pockets would hold her medical instruments--"Nice boys & girls don't study medicine," she knew youngsters of Treesa's class would be told. The cape itself was of septsilk velvet, but in a rich but sober blue-gray. She lowered necklines--quite a bit--on several gowns.

And was relieved that a couple were sleeveless & flowing. They'd be perfect for the parties or dinners that would likely be part of her "mistress's" courtship--especially concealed under the modest cloak. And it will be perfectly in character for a girl like Treesa, not wanting to spend her whole life carrying out the whims of a noble employer, to look for a young man able to keep her in such surroundings, with servants to carry out her whims. And where better to find such men than in the entourages of people like Mr. Hazil & his social & business circle? No one will think twice & no telling what the heirs or up-&-comers might say or leave out in the open, if they're pre-occupied with the idea that someone attractive is besotted with them.

Finally Tija took advantage of the luxurious refressher, before settling herself to meditate & sleep.

"Treesa" regretted both Taps having to separate himself from them & Paps' transformation. However, Danny--who from some of his stories had been a lot like Kali in his younger days--had often warned her, "the first rule of having fun is to know when to stop having fun." Plus, for all her youth & inexperience with some things, she was both a skilled professional used to being responsible for beings' lives and a Jedi disciple. So she became immersed in the modest persona of a handmaid, slipping into tthe speeder gracefully after Moondancer. Once in their suite, she & the Lady would have time together as she saw to the woman's needs.

Paps had slipped into his new role like a veteran. But, as his folks taught him as a pup, "Life isn't about all grim and work". As Tija...Treesa slid in the seat, Paps gave her a wink then closed the speeders' door. He turned and went around the speeder hood. NRI had a several week training course on security and Paps was pretty familar with the protcols. As he rounded the hood, he paused for one breather to make a scan of the back of the speeder, to make sure there was no possible pursers. He came over to the other side of the door and was sure that Myka...whatever his name was, had made proper security scans to the front. Dropping into the seat, and admiring its soft, cushy feel, he goosed the speeder forward, then glanced towards the Lady.

"Ma'dame"he said, with an almost purring sound to the word. "I will head towards the hotel. We will be on schuedle, Ma'am."

He snapped his neck to the side, hitting the button on his neck commlink. And prayed Taps wasn't goofing off in the ship.

******

Taps rocked back and forth as he sat, knees drawn up to him. In the cockpit, awaiting Paps signal, he was thinking of all the places he could go. Best place for the best info would probably be the finest cantina around here he thought with a smile. I wonder what the Bothans do for fun.

His commlink beeped. His brother must be heading out now. Taps crawled towards the cockpit window and watched the luxury speeder go by. He doubled check for anyone tailing them, then gave a double click.

Taps glanced at the chronometer he had on. About an half-an-hour would be safe, he decided. He rested up againest the wall and thought back during the days when he and his brother served the Empire aboard the Star Destroyer. Those days, full of oppression and hatred, full of terror when the commanding officer threatend to space them, full of pain when they were hit. He though back when Paps hit the end of his chain. When Taps reliased what a blaster did to someone, how a life could end so suddenly.

How one mistake made you run. And they had been running ever since.

Another job to complete. More credits to the account. We be doing our stuff, then leave. Maybe even Paps would let me join a band again after we abe done! 'e just gotta do a jolly good job. That is the ticket, laddie, is a jolly good job.

And with those thoughts, Taps begun to sing softly in the cold darkness of the cockpit.

Del cursed as he pivoted away from Lady Aurum's door. The way he figured it, Tllp probably plotted the wrong course coordinates or decided to end it all and ram the Action VI into a supernova. After he bolted into the cockpit and found a wide-eyed Tllp nodding his head, Del let out a sigh of relief.
"You said there was a problem?" Del asked curiously.
"Hrum namma yum rumba wappa chamma." Tllp responded curtly.
"Oh go jump off an escape pod. How long before we arrive at Bothawui?" Del asked impatiently.

Paps brought the speeder around the entrance, a uniformed Bothan opened the back door letting both Kali and Tija out. Mykel with deadly grace took up position to the left of Kali performing his role of bodyguard with excellence. Pap’s talked to the doorman and arranged for the bags to be brought up, while the team was brought to a large turbolift.

Tija’s face remained calm and unimpressed as she and Kali were brought to a large room, but Kali could feel the excitement emanating her through the force. Mykel entered the spacious and lightly colored room inspecting it quickly.

“Thank you may leave us now.” Kali said and Mykel departed to the room next door where P.Derek was waiting and where the rest of the team would stay.

Taps walked happily into the hotel, he was wearing a flamboyant outfit and had a doorman carrying several bags. Under a fake name he checked into a room one floor below everyone else. After stowing his bags and waiting for a short while Taps made his way upstairs to Kali’s room where he found everyone assembled.

“Ah Taps glad you could make it. Now that we are all here we are ready to get going on the planning. The general plan is for me to meet Hazil by way of an appointment that is in two hours. Mykel will accompany Tija and I in, Pap’s will be driving, and Taps will be in another speeder providing any assistance needed. This again is the rough plan so if anyone has any ideas now the time.”

As Kali welcomed Taps and layed things out, Mykel listened again. She asks for more ideas, and Mykel leans forward to speak up. "Sure. I've got one. What sort of weapons am I allowed to carry? Tija quietly looked around the spacious outer "great room" of the suite. It was decorated in a pseudo-Alderaanian motif. There were several groupings of furniture to encourage conversation. There was even a pile of lush cushions in one corner--Tija's idea of the perfect meditation & study area. A memory of herself as a student sprawled over several humbler pillows, watching her father point out organs in a medical hologram projection, flitted through her mind.

The doctor had turned toward the doors into the private areas of the suite, just as the others arrived. She turned back reluctantly. Later...oh, well. I did want to speak privately with Lady Kali. Maybe I should have sought her out on the trip in. She was happy to see the twins again, but only smiled greetings to them, mindful of her role.

Mykel's question about weapons reminded her to ask about her own gear. Although "Treesa's" clothing allowed a hidden lightsaber & she would take advantage of that, she did not intend to draw hers unless things were already a shambles.

"Ma'am, are handmaids also expected to be armed? At any time? And do you wish me to make other social commitments & so on with Mr. HAzil's people while you 2 become acquainted? "

When Derek introduced himself, Tija just gave him a nod & slight smile. She hoped he realized she was just keeping to her assigned role. Plus she wasn't sure if she was supposed to to tell him her actual job. Did I miss something in the pre-briefing briefings? Kali will do so if it is appropriate. And Paps & I should spend time discussing how to take care of our mistress' needs. I should be able to get some advice then.

"Captain, any estimate on time of arrival?"

Del smiled and nodded at the nav computer to his left.
"Nav-comp estimates we should be arriving in the Bothawui System within an hour." Del responded. "Tllp and I have made at least one run here before, so we know the procedure. Once we arrive, we'll have everyone planetside as soon as possible."

Del seemed to ponder something for a few moments, distracted by his own words and his own thoughts. Finally he voiced a concern he had been harboring for some time.

Pap’s talked to the doorman and arranged for the bags to be brought up, while the team was brought to a large turbolift.

Paps eyed the doorman, sizing him up for potential information.

”Well, my good sir, it seems your efficiency is complete. Take care to ensure these bags are delivered safely.”

“Well, thanks. And I will, mister Willebay.”

Willebay gave him a nod and went on up to his room. Entering the room, he saw that Mykel and some new guy were already in it. Dropping into a chair, Willebay slipped out of character and became Paps.

Paps grinned again and rose up from the chair quickly. [COLOR=darkblue]”Well laddies, ‘e just happens to have a sabbac deck in me bags. Lets say we deal a hand, ay?”

Taps walked happily into the hotel, he was wearing a flamboyant outfit and had a doorman carrying several bags. Under a fake name he checked into a room one floor below everyone else.

Taps waltzed into the hotel whistling at the top of his lungs. He was once again a different Far’ghul. When he found out that he had to stay into the hotel, he pulled out the third ID card, the one made for him and Paps to share. He was now a rich, young tourist, visiting the Bothans’ Homeworld, and he was loving it. His name was Froby Tanners and he had inherited a ton of dough. With light auburn-red fur and bright green-blue eyes, he was a striking figure.

He had bought a wild and colorful outfit from a very expensive clothing outfit store, had lots of NR credits in his pocket and had every excuse to go see the sights. Of course, he was supposed to be doing mission related stuff.

He just hoped that mission related stuff involved very nice cantinas.

Paps grinned as he tapped the skifter, having it change and give him pure sabbac. He smacked it down and grinned at the loser. Too bad they weren't playing for credits. He would have minted enough to pay his own ship. Kali called them into her room, and he got up from his chair and entered it.

Taps sauntered in, proudly displaying his wild outfit to everyone in the room. He spied his twin brother wearing the stiff uniform of butler and gave him a defiant smile. Paps just glared.

Remembering his scene at the briefing room, Paps carefully formed the words, then put them forth. As Willebay, not Paps, for Paps would not be worried with such matters. ”Lady, I…respectfully request that I be allowed to…mingle with Hazil’s staff. I believe I may be allowed to glean information, for surly Mr. Hazil will want to find out about you through people who work for you. I believe, once I give the impression of giving away free information, I am sure my partner in the conversation would be obliged to return the fashion. Also, my lady, am I to remain in comlink contact with the rest or not?”

Taps, also had a concern. ”’e assumes that ‘e just hang about and kinda of get the scoop of the locals? Maybe dig up some local rumors about Hazil?” Paps shot him a look. He knew very well what that meant. Taps gave him a who, me? look and his twin just shook his head.

After going over the information she had on Hazil, Inc., Lady Aurum changed into the outfit she had chosen to make her entrance to Bothawui in.

While she looked at herself in the mirror, Lady Aurum thought about the mission. I wouldn't have taken this deal if I hadn't been desperate. I have no intention of returning to that despicable Republic penal facility, with those mindless guards and the disreputable lot of scum I was forced to deal with. They treated me as if I was no better than the lowliest street tough, being pushed around by women who were so far below me it was unseemly!

But I risk an almost equal amount by being here, on this mission. I hope these Jedi know what they are doing. Suddenly feeling uneasy, Lady Aurum sought out the Sullustan crewman who had greeted her earlier, hoping to obtain something to ease her nerves.

Catching no sight of him near the quarters, she proceeded to the bridge area, hoping to find him there, and saw Baron Errant going into the cockpit. Perhaps there is an update on our arrival time.

Following after Baron Errant, she entered just in time to hear the captain ask a question.

"Tell me, what do you know about the Barabel and the Kuati lady? They haven't said much since they boarded?" Del inquired.

Before the Baron could respond, she spoke up. "Captain, I am sorry I have been so withdrawn on our journey thus far. I'm afraid I have grown accustomed to enjoying my privacy, but since you ask, mayhap I can make up for my previously reclusive nature.” She flashed one of her warmest smiles at the man. Nosey, are we? That’s not a much sought after quality in a hired ship captain. “I am Lady Melisonne Calendae Aurum, formerly of Aurum Enterprises. Perhaps you’ve heard of it? It is a fairly prestigious firm, especially in the Colonies Region.”

“A lightsaber will be sufficient for now Tija and I will see about lining up a few of Hazil’s men for you to investigate, perhaps they will be more loose with secrets.” Kali smiled warmly at the younger Jedi and glanced back at her own walk in closet. “of course all of my attire is at your disposal.” She added with a wink.

“Paps I am afraid it would be out of role for you to accompany us in, as the driver you would be expected to stay with the vehicle. While Mykel listened to the rest of the conversation, he also started focusing on what would soon be required of him. He thought about it, and decided to use a shoulder-holster for the heavy blaster pistol - he already had it, and would prefer the fire-power if problems arose - and an ankle holster for the holdout. Even though Kali hadn't told him to bring it, he also chose to slip his knife into his left boot. That way, just in case, he'd have that ready. Thinking over the rest of his gear, all he needed was the comlink, and that was built into his suit. After the briefing then, he just had to slip on the two blasters and his knife, and he'd be ready to go. When Kali had gotten finished with her discussion, he nods to her, indicating that he's more or less ready to head out.

Deep inside, though, she was suddenly shy at the thought of "investigating" Hazil retainers. But I won't be left to myself. Taps was glad he could do some intel but when he found out P. Derek was coming along, he sighed. Babysitting a technonerd. Goody

Paps wasn't happy about the prospect of sitting in a speeder either. But, he decide he had to weather such things. He would wear the same stuff. The Intel items, holocam, secure comlink, and his T-6 blaster and hold-out. A blaster carbine rifle would probablly be good to include in the speeder, for heavy fire support. He would talk to My--Tahri (or whatever his name was) about it.

Taps wasn't sure where he would start at. He asked his brother. "Paps, now what do 'u be thinking 'e should be doing now? I not sure where to begin, 'nd since 'e be having....techno-dude, 'es not sure what 'e can handle."

Paps nodded and stroked his chin. "Well Taps, 'e would say shipping. Find out who the bally Hazil uses for shipping. Maybe see if they know anythin' or whatnot. Ask around, or have the man hack into shipping records. That would be a logical start. And be well armed Taps. And take the Froby ID."

Taps nodded. He mentally went through what he could wear. A T-6 could be hidden in a loose shirt. Hold-out in the sleeves and vibro in the boot would be the best. He could wear a nice outfit, something cool under the Bothan sun. Maybe a Bothan or Correllain print.

"Miss Mo---Lady, if 'e don't mind, 'e be bally on me way. I need to attend to things. Good day, and good luck. Come on....Derak."

"You'd like to think that." Del smarted back. "Passengers, this is your captain speaking, we are exiting hyperspace into the Bothawui System now. I'll find a suitable space station that will allow you to find a ferry planetside."
Tllp began to become a bit disconcerted as a pair of yellow lights began to flash ominously on the HUD.
"Po hrum?" Tllp asked in a slightly panicked tone.
"Negative, fly straight and don't do anything fancy that might alarm them." Del reminded his partner.

"Turrets?"

"Activating them now. You can find access ports to the aft." Gray scrambled off towards Brix' stateroom, telling the Barabel lieutenant to join him aft in one of the turrets. He stumbled quickly down the corridors towards the access shafts and managed to get up the ladder in time to see one of the headhunters wing past, being followed by the turret's auto-guidance system. Del threw the Fine Mess into a tight turn to port, bringing the bow of the ship away from Bothawui. The Headhunters, already arcing back around, were too fast. No matter how hard he tried to move into position behind the Z-95s, he was aware that it was physically impossible for the Action VI.
"Tllp, activate sensor masks!" Del shouted. "These scum buckets aren't planetary security!"
"Borumba tubba no ruoba tappa!" Tllp chittered.
"It doesn't matter!" Del replied. "If Bothan security picks this firefight up on their sensors, then our little infiltration operation is down the drain!"
"Tabba!" Tllp yelled.
The blaring sound of the quad laser cannons from Gray reassured Del that, for the moment, they at least weren't defenseless. "I just hope our shield generators last long enough to hold these boot lickers off!" Del thought morbidly.
A huge explosion rocked the aft quadrant of the Fine Mess! Tllp's eyes became as big as a supernova, his mouth hanging open in shock. Del glanced at the HUD as he dove below one of the Z-95s firing solutions. The shield display, which had moments ago been green, was a scarlet red. "Figures."

The targeting computer identified it as an "Incom Z-95 variant IF Headhunter" as the wireframe turned red. This indicated it was...hostile? Assuming so, Brix grabbed the controls and braced his too big for the seat frame as the turret swiveled with agility. Depressing the fire triggers, the lieutenant sent quartets of ruby light in the path of the target.

The Barabel noticed that although his cross-hairs were centerd over the fighter's image he wasn't hitting as it streaked by to port. What kind of idiotic system is this ?, he fumed. A smaller inverted crosshair on the screen, just ahead of the wire-frame, had the letters "ITR" next to it. "ITR"? A huge claw smacked palm against browridges in realization, Inerrtial Trrracking Referrrrence !

Cursing his stupidity, Brix tried to refocus on the ship but it had already vanished from the screen to be replaced by another vessel of identical make angling down towards them. In a tenth of half a heartbeat he had the crosshairs focused over the newcomer's ITR point superimposed on the vessel's outline itself. Depressing the triggers the only emission from the big weapon was an indignant buzz. Power Cycling Incomplete !, scrolled across the display.

"Rrrachuk Goaddirr !", Brix swore unaware of the straps digging into his thick hide as the vessel rocked hard and a thundering crack issued from somewhere below him.

Panicked, Del began to sweat profusely. He checked his console, reassured that the sensor masks were working in full swing; though they pretty much hid any type of sensor check on the Fine Mess by planetary control, they did nothing to mask visual contact.
"Tllp, try to hail these scumsuckers and figure out what's going on!" Del shouted as he climbed above one of the Headhunter's firing arcs.
The steady blare of another set of quad lasers reassured Del that his "guests" at least knew how to handle the ship's weaponry.
"Huoma tabba ja bunna tlabo." Tllp muttered. "Do runna ta rappa ju klanna hrum namma hanna."
"I see!" Del replied loudly. "Is there anything else you'd like to share with me?!"
"Tomp runnu oom bappa tlum." Tllp said slowly.
Del spun his head to glance portside. Heading straight at him was an orange streak. The HUD began to flash violently and the screaming warning siren stung the old freighter captain's ears.
"We're in big trouble."
The concussion missiles blasting towards the Action VI seemed to agree.

************Dirtside: Bothawui**************

Kali Moondancer double-checked her preparations in a last minute rush to feel totally prepared. She was still uncertain that her lightsaber would be within easy reach concealed within her hair, and feared that she might have to cut some of it away to free the weapon.

Kali glanced at the mirror and sighed. She couldn't deny that Tija knew what she was doing when it came to dressing someone up. Kali looked better than usual, and that's a difficult thing to say about a Zeltron.

She'd told Tija to stay close enough that she could count on the young Jedi's support should the situation come to blows. She could only hope Taps and P. Derek were where they needed to be for this to evening to be a success. She briefly wondered at the absence of any sort of communique from Gray, and dismissed it. Gray was a capable man, cunning and resourceful. She had little doubt her able student would manage without her imput for a brief while.

************Aboard the Fine Mess***************

"Captain, they're vectoring to take out our engines." Gray observed coolly, as he managed to tag one of the zooming headhunters with a lazy shot.

As the warning klaxons blared in his ears, he realised Captain Messer had bigger problems. Reaching out with the Force, Gray managed to locate the incoming projectiles. He suddenly wished he'd paid more attention to Moondancer's urging for him to study telekinesis a bit more, but Gray had other options. Opening himself to the Force, he swung his turret around violently, firing quick shots at the imperceptible projectiles. Three gouts of flame in the darkness were beautiful testament to the uncanny accuraccy the Force afforded Gray, but the one missile still streaking towards the ship could still doom her...

Tija, after 1 more frown into the handmirror, put it down & shut the cosmetics case. "Cosmetic surgery is easier than making up your own face," she sighed.
"You look lovely," Kali replied, touching the lightsaber once more. Tija didn't like the placement any better, but with Zeltron-style evening wear, there was no place else to put it.
Tija's own gown was one of the most modest from Kali's wardrobe. This hardly covers more than a patient smock, slit up and down as it is. I wonder... She stroked the luxurious fabric & allowed herself a few dreams. "We've got another half a timepart before we leave, Mast--Milady. What shall we do?"

Mykel, having already checked over his equipment and person, waits paitently in the main lounge area of the hotel suite for his charge to arrive. While reasonably he should be getting anxious to get started, but instead he is keeping his mind occupied with the latest issue of a syndicated sports show on the holovid.

"Can 'e be hack into whatever and find that out?" asked Taps

P. Derek replied with amusement in his voice:
"Well, we can try, I've got all my trade tools here with me.
And I hope I'm not bothering you with all the questions, I just happen to be very curious!
Oh, and don't start with that curiosity killed the spukamas attitude."

P. Derek took a moment to power up his datapad and started a quick systems test... satisfied to have everything in order he continued walking besides Taps.

OOC: To be back, glad I am!
