Any chat utlility that can connect to IRC opens up quite a few dice rollers to you. Phishy (http://phishy.net/) has DiceBot that we keep active in the SWAG chat room, and there are other IRC servers that offer similar bots.

Thank you Nafai. your link didnt pop up but i got to it nonetheless.

it seems like the thing i need for my group that is now seperated from me by recently moving. however i have one question?? is there some way i can sit in on a session that you have to see how it works? i dont have very many ranks in comp use and am having trouble understanding the instructions. do i have to download dicebot? or just go to the chat server im on and follow the directives they give??

i know i seem stupid here, or maybe just over-anxious to use the net for what i love most. Roleplaying.

Thanks for your help anyways.

You have to have a channel registered with Dicebot, and then you will send a join message to him. You email BigMac at Phishy to add your channel to Dicebot's list. After that's done, when you are in your chat channel, just type

/msg dicebot join <channel name>

Then anytime you type a diecode in your text, like 2d6, Dicebot automatically intervenes and displays the results.

You can access the SWAG chat channel and try it out if you want.

Here's info on the SWAG IRC Channel (http://swagonline.net/forum/irc.php), BTW. Just log in and DiceBot should be waiting for you. ;)

If IRC doesn't capture your interest, there are programs designed specifically for playing RPGs over the internet.

For example:
http://ggo.jevon.org/

and

http://www.openrpg.com/

While not geared up for irc, as I understand it, http://www.irony.com/ works very well as a web-based dice server. Hope you find one that works well for you.

farr0095 yes i do use that one sometimes. it is very good. and yes it isnt geared to iRC. however i have thought of using it then having my PCs/friends give me their rolls. how honest do you think i can get them to be?? lol

Sabre on OpenRPG do i have to download the python program? and which one do i use? not familiar with python. and forgive me for my comp ignorance. as Ani would say...i try master.

but thanx for your help masters. it is appreciated as i said.

XavierDrgn, when I do rolls for my group (as the GMs in the other PBeM's I am in do) I just do all the rolling and we work it out from there. They usually tell me their actions, I resolve them (making the rolls and declaring the outcome) and they respond. That could work as well. It also allows for cinematic outcomes, regardless of the dice on occassion.
