Expectations of the DM
1. DM makes dice rolls. Players may make rolls if they wish.
2. DM has a flair for the game and is faithful to the Star Wars universe.

Expectations of the Adventure
1. A mix of role-playing (30%), combat (30%), obstacle/puzzle (30%), and character development (10%).
2. Players post 2/week. DM posts on Sunday and Thursday. Players who can post more frequently than 2/week can help by taking on leadership roles in the party: suggesting marching order, watch shifts, gathering information when entering a new location, ...

Character Creation Rules
1. Starting Level: 3rd level.
2. Ability Scores: 32 points for ability scores using the point buy method (or assign the following scores: 16, 14, 14, 12, 12, 10).
3. Races, classes, skills, feats, and equipment: from the Core Rulebook only.
4. Starting Money: 3,000 CR for equipment. No single item more than 750 CR.
5. Hit Points: Maximum at 1st level. Every other level: 1/2 HD + 1 (e.g., a Jedi Guardian, using a d10, would gain 10 hp at first level, 6 hp for 2nd level, and 6 hp for 3rd level, for a total of 10+6+6=22 hp ... add Con modifiers if you have them).

Klamath Windwalker

- Last assignment: Won battle against tyrant on planet Triffis in Mid Rim who enslave whole population and killed over 20.000 people. In last fight Klamath entered tyrant hideout with small force, but in the mater of minutes all his soldiers where dead as they entered trap. Only his Jedi powers save him from certain death. Enraged by death of his friends with whom he fight whole war something snap in him for the moment and in the uncontrolled rage he slain tyrant and all his staff and guards.

- A Brief Background: As a Corellian he was discovered to be force sensitive since he was born. Since that he grows up in Jedi temple on Coruscant with rest of young jedis and other force sensitive beings. His Jedi training was like dream to him; his Master is kind and gentle Human named Calem Zonke who take good care that his young padawan become good person and Jedi. He never meets his parents, but he doesn’t miss them, his family is Jedi order. In his 24 year he become Jedi padawan with keen sense for combat and battle prowess, since than he’s been in many missions and prove his loyalty to Jedi order.

- Personality: Cunning warrior and excellent fighter. Calm but deadly, man of few words. He is tolerant toward all life.

Vel Tirok

Raised in a noble family on Dorin, Vel Tirok was early on trained in swordsmanship and personal discipline. When he was six years old, a local Jedi Knight identified him as Force-sensitive, and he was taken off-world, away from his proud parents, for further Force training in the Jedi academy on Coruscant. There, he was trained by Jedi Master Kurlyyn Doora as a member of the Serpent Clan.

Vel advanced quickly in all fields of training, but his mentor was still worried about the boy's future learning. Kurlyyn thought that Vel's Kel Dor heritage and tradition of swift justice showed through all too much in him, and only reluctantly let Twi'lek Jedi Master Binaba Chi take Vel as a Padawan the day after his eleventh birthday.

As he had during his earlier years in the Jedi Order, Vel improved his skills rapidly, but he often got into heated arguments with his master. While Binaba promoted the traditional Jedi traits of understanding, forethought and meditation, Vel enforced a swifter justice, and was quick to take matters into his own hands when he felt an issue was being treated unfairly or incorrectly.

Over the years, Vel and Binabi undertook many assignments from the Jedi Council, and despite their fair share of disagreements, Binaba is certain that Vel will eventually learn patience and forethought as he becomes more experienced and confident. Vel is now 21 years old and well on the way to becoming a Jedi Knight.

Like his parents taught him during his earliest years, Vel Tirok believes in his ability to judge a situation quickly and fairly, and is an advocate of swift justice, as many Kel Dor are. He rarely admits his weaknesses and mistakes, and exercises great care in everything so that he won't have to.

Both during and between missions and assignments, Vel is a quiet person—more because of his self-reliance than anything else. He is slow to make friends, but when he does, he is a trusted ally who always holds true to his word, and expects his companion to do so as well.

Vel is never hesitant to visit new places and carry out seemingly dangerous orders from the Jedi Council. During his years as a Padawan learner, he has seen many planets and interacted with equally many different cultures. Partly because of this, Vel rarely holds any prejudices against those different from him, and respects every being's right to think for itself.

Vel is very perceptive and aware of his surroundings—even more so than many other Kel Dor.

Even though his master Binaba is confident that Vel will one day become a Jedi Knight, Vel doesn't know that she feels that way, and is eager to prove to his master that he is not a failure. He tries his best to learn from her, even though his instincts sometimes get the upper hand.

Vel Tirok stands just a little below two meters in height and wears flowing, azure robes with dark blue decorations. As he is a Kel Dor, Vel always has his breath mask on. Beneath his protective goggles, are his two fiery, crimson-colored eyes. In a utility belt, he carries his blue-bladed lightsaber and a few other pieces of equipment.

SCENE: on an air taxi
LOCATION: near the Galactic Senate Chamber, Republic City, Coruscant
TIME: mid-morning

Republic City was chaotic. Gleaming starships carrying alien senators filled Coruscant’s sky. Air taxis clogged the transit lanes near the Galactic Senate Chamber. Media droids hovered around the Senate Quarters. Activists blocked traffic and services. In two days, the Senate would vote on the controversial Military Creation Act. Citizens of the Republic waited anxiously for their decision.

Jedi Master Mace Windu had foreseen a terrorist plot unfolding at the Galactic Senate Chamber. He used the Force to find the shatterpoints, to discover what actions would smother the threat created by these political idealists. The Force revealed that if the terrorists saw three Jedi at the Nova Gate this afternoon, it would be enough to deter the terrorists.

It would be a simple task to stand at Nova Gate ... a task hardly worthy of a Jedi. But the venerable Jedi Master Yoda himself had requested you for this mission. Even more curious was his baleful warning. “Be mindful of the Force, young padawans. Difficult to see the future is. Clouded by the Dark Side it is.”

Jedi padawans Klamath Windwalker, Locton Diffit, and Vel Tirok sped towards the Galactic Senate Chamber in an air taxi. The pilot flew at a dizzying height, but avoided most of the traffic congestion. The air taxi was making its descent when it happened ...

The concussion from a violent explosion buffeted the air taxi and shattered windows as it echoed along the closely-packed administrative buildings. A thick cloud of black smoke erupted from a Senator Landing Pad. The floating landing platform was still buoyant, but the chrome-plated Naboo Royal Cruiser was heavily damaged and many bodies were strewn across the deck.

From high above, you saw a crimson air taxi speed away from the platform and round a nearby building. The sole passenger, a blue-skinned twi-lek, jumped to a waiting sport-model air speeder twenty meters below as the crimson taxi continued on a pre-programmed route through the city.

Republic guards on the platform jumped into their air speeders, rounded the building, and chased the crimson air taxi. They did not see the twi-lek change vehicles.

The twi-lek closed the dark-tinted pilot canopy and slipped into a traffic lane headed to the Galactic Senate Chamber.

Seeing the Twi'lek's change of vehicles in the corner of his eye, Vel kept his eyes fixed on the perpetrator's new airspeeder.

Throwing quick glances at his friends, Vel saw that they too had spotted the entire incident.

"It's too late to alert the police forces now. We'll have to take him ourselves. Driver, follow that sport-model airspeeder," Vel shouted above the din of all the commotion.

He pointed a finger at the escaping airspeeder, and with his other hand gripped the lightsaber hanging from his belt.

He wouldn't let something like this escape a Kel Dor.

Klamath nod to Vel and add to driver follow him, but beware not to notice you, We want to see where he is heading, and who will he meet after that he continue to focus on fleeing airspeeder.

Surprised that Klamath wanted to delay capture of the perpetrators, Vel was about to object to his friend's instructions, but remembered his master's many reminders:

The quickest route isn't always the best route. Only when you are at peace can you make the wisest decision.

Swallowing his pride, Vel silently nodded at Klamath. He closed his eyes for a moment, trying to find inner calm like the Jedi Code had taught him to.

Nodding at Klamath's thoughts, Locton adds "I agree. If the assassin knows someone is following him, he may try to escape, possibly causing more harm than he would if he was allowed to continue toward his next objective, instead of continuing to his objective, which we would then be in position to prevent him from completing. In addition, he may be trying to escape, in which case, we can follow him to his hideout, and perhaps capture his companions as well."

1.1 Assassin

Sian Snunb, the sullustan pilot, tries to fly inconspicuously. [Tail the twi'lek. Opposed Hide/Spot checks. Sian: 12+0=12. Twi'lek: 18+2=20. Twi'lek spots you!] The twi'lek is too observant - he fires his thrusters, slips from the traffic lane, and dodges around a nearby building.

“Attay day nu hahdda moo day haddaa moo kay ah, hah,” the sullustan pilot garbles as he tightens his restraining belt. A look of determination wrinkles his face. The enhanced rocket engines fire and the modified air taxi surges forward.

Although Sian Snunb was primarily a mechanic in the Jedi Temple Hanger, he was also an adroit pilot. Sian was raised on Sullust, and spent his youth in speed races through the narrow tunnels of that volcanic world. The airspace near the Galactic Senate Chamber was congested with buildings and vehicles, but they would pose little challenge for Sian’s piloting skills.

The fleeing twi’lek proved to be a capable pilot: punching through traffic lanes, weaving between buildings, and leading the Jedi into the path of construction and civilian vehicles. Sian pursued in his lumbering air taxi. [Pilot checks (DC 10, 10, 15): Twi’lek: 12+6=18, 5+6=11, 18+6=24 ... success, success, success! Sian: 11+10=21, 13+10=23, 1+10=11 ... success, success, fail!] CRASH! The air taxi slams into a delivery skiff.

Sian and the padawans struggle to hold on. [Hold on: Str check (DC 10). Sian: 11+0=11 ... success! Klamath: 1+2=3 ... failed! Locton: 17+1=18 ... success! Vel: 13+1=14 ... success!] The restraining belt snaps as Klamath is thrown from the vehicle.

As his body falls out of the air taxi, Klamath frantically flails his arms for a handhold. [Grab air taxi. Dex check (DC 12): 11+1=12 ... success!] His fingers close about the repulsorlift on the ballast of the vehicle.

“Un nay tok wihmay yunik!” Sian garbles excitedly as his vehicle careens out of control to the street three miles below. [Regain control. Pilot check (DC 10): 5+10=15 ... success!] The sullustan throws a switch on the control panel and pulls on the steering column. Fire retardant sprays from recesses in the hull. The black smoke disappears. The air taxi levels out.

The padawans look for their quarry. [Spot fleeing twi’lek. Opposed Spot/Hide check: Twi’lek: 4+9=13. Sian: 10+0=10 ... lose. Klamath: 14+2=16 ... win. Locton: 3+0=3 ... lose. Vel: 4+2=6 ... lose.] Klamath spots the twi-lek.

“Five hundred meters to the northeast!” he coughs, dangling from the repulsorlift and covered in black soot and white fire foam. [Hold on. Str check (DC 10): 15+2=17 ... success!] The padawan strengthens his hold, knowing that if he loses his grip, he will fall to his death three miles below. There is no way to climb to the seating on top of the vehicle.


Sian chases the twi’lek with renewed vigor. [Short chase: opposed Pilot check. Sian: 12+10=22. Twi-lek: 15+6=21. Sian catches Twi-lek!] Sian rams into the sleek air speeder. The rear thruster explodes from the impact.

Klamath struggles to hold on [Hold on. Str check (DC 12): 18+2=20 ... success!]

The twi’lek swerves into a building under construction. The framework for ten new floors is being added to the top of the Corellian Trade Center. Small construction droids buzz about the maze of girders and unfinished walls. Seconds later, you hear a loud crash from somewhere in the middle of the structure.

It is apparent the air taxi is too large to enter the structure.

Vel suddenly feels cold. His Force Sense tells him the twi’lek assassin is still alive and hiding in the structure ... waiting for his pursuers ... ready to kill.

What do you do?

1. Ten floors are under construction. Each floor measures 200 x 200 meters. Girders are 1 meter wide and about 5 meters apart (horizontally and vertically). Visibility is 10 meters.
2. I was planning to convert supporting documents into Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format. Does everyone have a .pdf reader?

Locton speaks "I reccomend that we go in. He may still be alive and hiding in there, and waiting for us to leave to complete his mission. On the other hand, he might be injured, and if we wait for too long, he might die from injuries. We not only have a duty to heal those who are wounded, but if the assassin dies, we will be unable to question him, to find out who hired him. Unless there are any objections?"

Vel feels a cold ripple in the Force and knows that it's coming from inside the construction site. The Twi'lek is hiding somewhere in there.

"The perpetrator is alive," Vel replies quickly and moves toward the air taxi's repulsorlift. "But we have to get Klamath up before anything else." Gathering his strength, Vel reaches toward the fellow Jedi Knight struggling to hold on to the vehicle.

[OOG: If they manage to pull Klamath into the air taxi, Vel will use Enhance Senses (+8) to better be able to find the Twi'lek inside the construction site.

This is just a question, and I don't mean to encroach on your style of DMing, but shouldn't you have rolled for saving throws instead of ability checks when the characters were trying to hold on to the air taxi earlier?

1.2 Assassin!

Locton and Vel peer over the side of the air taxi. Klamath is beyond their physical reach.

Sian rolls the vehicle to the side, rising the keel of the large air taxi. With a girder within reach, Klamath clambers onto the construction structure.

Moments later, both Vocton and Vel are on the structure. The plastisteel girders are 1 meter wide and you are 5 stories from the base of the new structure. You proceed into the treacherous maze of girders, partial floors, and incomplete walls. Occasionally, a construction driod is seen bringing materials from the street miles below, or welding girders together.

60 meters into the structure, you see the airspeeder lying upside down on a small section of flooring. It obviously crashed into the structure and fell to this story. Smoke and sparks erupts from the front of the vehicle. The cockpit canopy is ajar. There is no sign of the twi-lek.

You carefully scan your surroundings for the hidden assassin. [Find the hidden twi-lek. Opposed Spot/Hide check: 19+2=21, Locton: 10+0=10, Vel: 20+2=22, Twi'lek: 3+5=8 ... the Jedi spot the twi'lek!] The assassin did not have enough time to find a secure sniper position. He sits on a girder, on the next story 10 meters above.

What do you do?

[OOG: That's an interesting question, Jakob. A DM could interpret the situation to your advantage or disadvantage, depending on whether he viewed it as a save or check ... do you roll a check to hold on or a save to avoid falling out? Regarding falling, one official source I have says to make a Dex check to grab the ledge and a Str check to pull yourself up. Another official source says to make a Reflex check to grab the ledge and a Climb check to pull yourself up. In retrospect, I suppose the "hold on" rolls should have been Str checks and the "grab the ledge" should have been a Reflex save.]

Vel takes a moment to gather inner calm [Enhance Senses +8], then starts walking along the construction site girders. He slowly waves his left hand back at his comrades. As he walks, his lightsaber remains by his belt. When he comes closer to the Twi'lek, he fixes his eyes on him and begins to talk loudly to reach the next floor with his voice.

"We know you are up there. The police forces have been alerted and will be arriving any moment now. If you turn yourself in, you will recieve a fair trial and a chance to speak for yourself. The first thing you'll have to do to gain our trust is to put down your blaster, however. Only when you have done that can we help you." [Diplomacy +8]

He was managing it. Years earlier, Vel would have ignited his lightsaber after but a moment and went after the perpetrator. Now, he was actually negotiating right away, and he really felt that he could be able to talk the Twi'lek into surrendering without any violence.

As Vel moves closer to the Twi'lek, he tries to reach out to the perpetrator's mind and sense the emotions going through him. [Empathy +2 as soon as Vel gets within range, and he'll take 10 if possible.]

Vel attempts diplomacy [Opposed Diplomacy/Sense Motive checks. Vel: 16+8=24. Twi'lek: 4+8=12 ... Vel wins!]

"One cannot defeat a heat storm, one must ride it," the assassin grumbles, recalling the ancient twi'lek proverb. "My employer will mark me, send out contracts to have me killed, now that I have been captured. Protect me."

The twi'lek jumps to the floor, then carefully lays down his grenade launcher.

[OOG: This is assuming the Twi'lek jumped to the floor on the same level as us.]

Walking over to the surrendered Twi'lek, Vel smiles beneath his breath mask.

"You have made the right choice. You will receive fair judgement now, instead of being killed on sight by the police forces."

As he reaches the perpetrator, Vel waves at his two Padawan companions.

"Klamath, Locton, keep him under sight while I look for Sian, and don't forget to take the weapon."

Nodding at his friends, Vel starts walking toward the edge of the construction site, trying to find Sian, or a police airspeeder, a feeling of satisfaction filling him. He couldn't wait for his master to comment on how he and his companions had handled the assignment.

SCENE: Jedi Council Chambers
LOCATION: Jedi Council Chamber, Jedi Temple, Republic City
TIME: early afternoon

The assassin was taken into custody by the Coruscant police forces, and you were told to return to the Jedi Temple.

As Sian piloted the lumbering air taxi into the hanger of the Jedi Temple, you noticed Master Binaba Chi waiting for you.

"You have done well, young padawans," the twi'lek Jedi said. "Master Windu has called you to the Council Chamber to report on this incident.

Three hours passed in the waiting room below the Council Chamber before you were summoned.

"We heard about the incident on the Corellian Trade Tower," Master Windu said. "It appears Yoda's foresight in selecting you for guard duty was fortuitous."

"Yeeeees," Yoda croaked in. "Strange are the ways of the Force. Come now ... curious am I to hear your story."

Vel throws a quick glance at his two friends beside him in the Council Chamber, then turns his eyes toward the Jedi Council seated before him.

"Master Yoda, Council members," he addresses them. "By Master Yoda's request, I will recount to you the events of this morning." Vel sweeps his vision across the room, meeting the eyes of each of the council members in front of him.

"As our pilot, Sian Snunb, escorted us toward Nova Gate, an explosion occurred on a landing platform below. The police force was quick to begin pursuit of the assumed perpetrator, but they didn't see what me and my fellow Padawans, Klamath Windwalker and Locton Diffit, witnessed from above. The Twi'lek responsible for the attack switched vehicles after the incident, and led the guards off on a false trail. Deeming that we did not have time to alert the police force, we directed Sian to follow the perpetrator. Sian flew skillfully, but a sudden collision threw Padawan Klamath off to the side of the air taxi."

Vel nods toward Klamath, then continues.

"His senses were not dulled, however, and he was able to spot the escaping vehicle. Sian continued pursuit, and was able to ram it badly enough that it had to set down on a nearby Corellian Trade Center. We got off on the construction framework, and found the perpetrator near his speeder. I was able to talk him into surrendering, and he was taken into custody by the police a while later."

Vel pauses for a moment.

"Master Yoda, from what I saw after the explosion on the landing pad, a royal cruiser of some sort was damaged by the blast. If I may ask, who was the target of this attack?"

2.1 Jedi Council

"You have done well," Master Windu informs you. "Did the assassin mention who he worked for? He was found dead just over an hour ago. Apparently the generator to his force cage overloaded, although the technicians at the detention centre could find no reason for the overload. The Coruscant Guard is treating the accident as suspicious, but I think they are mistaken ... I do not think any malevolent force could have evaded detection from my Jedi senses."

"Clouds our vision, the Dark Side does," Master Yoda warns the Council in a cryptic tone. "Already I sense it has grown beyond our control. Reflect on this we must."

"The assassin's target was Senator Padme Amidala from the Naboo System," interrupts Master Windu, answering your question. "The Separtists are insighting rebellion across the galaxy. The Supreme Chancellor called on the Jedi to assist and recommended sending the padawans on small peacekeeping assignments. He recommended Anakin Skywalker to protect Senator Padme. Upon hearing of how your saved the lives of the other senators at the Galactic Senate this morning, he requested you to assist his good friend Senator Wilhuff of the Seswenna Sector. You are to accompany the senator in his meetings with the Separtist leaders to bring about a peaceful solution to their conflict. You leave tomorrow at 07:00 from Landing Pad 1 of the Senate Quarters."

"How feel you?" Yoda asks the three padawans.

TIME: afternoon

"Your masters have been assigned to other missions, critical to preserving the peace," Mace Windu informs you. "You have proven capable of handling yourselves without resorting to aggression, so we have assigned you to assist Senator Wilhuff Tarkin in negotiations with the Separatists in Seswenna Sector. The Senator will brief you on your duties tomorrow. If there are no further questions, you are dismissed. May the Force be with you."

SCENE: at the Senator's table, on board the republic cruiser <i>Victory</i>
TIME: four days later

"I must say that I am disappointed," snubbed Senator Tarkin. "I came to Coruscant for a military force to crush the Separatists on Seldu. Instead, they send me a pack of fledgeling Jedi to negotiate peace. The Separatists have no interest in peace. They pursue their own agendas without any respect for peaceful goals of the Republic. Words spoken at negotiations will not sway them to change their ways. They must be kept in line by fear and force."

You have been invited to the Senator's table for the evening meal. The exotic meats, vegetables, and pasteries are a sumptuous feast.

"I have been recruiting weapon engineers from across the galaxy to build a new generation of capital ships to enforce Republic doctrine. Although the Supreme Chancellor is funding the project, he wishes to give diplomacy another chance. Unfortunately, I learned this afternoon that one of my engineers has been kidnapped by the Separatists. My intelligence officers reported that the engineer was taken to Refol City on Seldu. I need you to rescue the kidnapped engineer."

Vel swallows a piece of the thin steak served to him, then turns his eyes to the senator.

"Senator Tarkin," he begins, "did the kidnappers leave a list of demands, or some sort of message? It is possible that the Separatists kidnapped the engineer purely in hope of receiving a substantial monetary reward for his release. In that case, they must have left a holorecording or something similar for you."

"Otherwise..." Vel frowns slightly. "...finding the kidnapped engineer will be a lot more difficult. Has the local police force spoken to any witnesses, or received any descriptions of the perpetrators?"

Vel glances at his friends beside him, wondering if he and they are really up to this task. Unless they can get any good leads, finding the kidnappers can be real tough.

TIME: evening

"We have interrogated all witnesses," Senator Tarkin snapped, suspecting that Vel was criticizing his ability to deal with a military situation. "We have learned that weapons engineer Bevel Lemelisk has been taken to a hidden Separatist base on Seldu. He must be rescued before he compromises our secret military research. All personnel with secret or higher security clearance are implanted with a CTD. The CTD implant allows us to track, render unconscious, or kill the individual. We have rendered Bevel unconscious for 3 days. When he awakens, the Separatist interrogators will force him to reveal our military secrets. We cannot allow that to happen. We will kill Bevel before he regains consciousness.

"I have discussed this matter with Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, alerting him of potential danger to the Republic. I told him I canceled negotiations with the Separatists in light of their recent activity, and that I was preparing a fleet to bombard Seldu. The Supreme Chancellor requested that I stay my hand, that Bevel could be rescued, and that peace negotiations should resume. He asked that you jedi be the ones to rescue Bevel. The Supreme Chancellor is far too trusting, but I am obedient to his wishes.

"We arrive in Seldu tomorrow. You have 48 hours to rescue Bevel before we detonate his CTD. You will be given a CTD tracking scanner and any normal equipment you need for this mission.

"If you have any questions, ask them now. If not, I wish you success on your mission. See Quartermaster Sergeant Logis for equipment.

"Regarding Seldu, senator, how are their current relations with the Republic? How has the Separatist crisis affected them so far?"

Vel pauses to think for a short moment.

"We are keepers of the peace, not soldiers. If we arrive at Seldu to find that its people are opposed, even hostile, to the Jedi, our investigation could be severely hampered."

"Sir, I know we will need to act in secret while we are searching for bevel lemelisk, but once we find his location, are we to infiltrate it, or simply cut our way in?"

"Keepers of peace?" Senator Tarkin snickers. "I care not about the ideals of your empty religion. An important citizen of the Republic has been kidnapped by an evil organization. Use whatever force is necessary to liberate weapons engineer Bevel Lemelisk. I recommend killing them all to set an example for Separatist cells on other worlds. Supreme Chancellor Palpatine will not hold you at fault if you must kill those who resort to such tactics of terror."

"Prime Minister Das Clarion of Seldu has not been on good terms with the Republic of late. He claims the Republic has become corrupt and that the needs of his people are ignored. Many of Seldu's citizens feel the same way about the Galactic Senate and members of the Republic. Expect little help, and perhaps hostility, when you visit Refol City.

"Refol City is buried deep in the mantle of the planet. Our intelligence reports the existence of a secret Separatist cell. I would bombard the planet, but only the upper cities would be affected. Seldu is too deep to be destroyed. If only I had a weapon powerful enough to destroy the entire planet. No enemy of the Republic would escape. Enemies on other worlds would fall into obedience out of fear ... knowing they could not perform illegal acts and hope to hide from the hand of justice.

SCENE: Amdu Spaceport on Seldu
TIME: Day 5, morning

Seldu is a frozen world on the outskirts of the Eriadu system. Life cannot survive on its freezing surface. The air is deathly still and the temperature is close to absolute zero. Even methane gas freezes under such conditions. Cities are built deep in the mantle of the planet, close to the warm core.

The Amdu Spaceport is one of the few surface structures. The <i>Victory</i> slips through the weak environmental force field which keeps the frigid cold out of the open hanger door.

Within minutes of landing, Senator Tarkin dispatches a squad of heavily armed Republic troopers to surround the ship. The cruiser has been modified with gun turrets, which are now stationed and pointed at the offices of the Docking Authority.

Members of the Seldu Docking Authority seem nervous about the display of firepower.

As the cruiser sets down and Republic troops rush out to surround the starship, Vel nods for his fellow Padawans to follow him as he walks outside.

Worried that their open display of military strength might startle the Seldu authorities, Vel gestures for the soldiers to lower their weapons. He then turns to face the office of the Seldu Docking Authority.

[Before speaking, Vel takes 10 for Empathy +2 on the relevant spaceport official to boost his negotiation skills.]

"Members of the Seldu Docking Authority, we are Jedi Knights sent by the Republic to investigate the disappearance of a Republic engineer. We have reason to believe that a hidden Separatist cell stationed on Seldu has taken him hostage.

"We wish to meet with Prime Minister Das Clarion and ask for his help in this matter, so that our investigation may be as swift as possible and take minimal time from his other dealings."

After the small speech, Vel stands quietly and feels a slight nervosity as waits for an answer.

4.1 Republic Attitude

SCENE: Amdu Spaceport on Seldu
TIME: Day 5, morning

As Vel finishes his introduction, the door to the Docking Authority office opens. A female human, dressed in a navy blue uniform, emerges. The two officials, dressed in grey uniforms, step back as she approaches.

Vel manipulates the Force, attempting to ease a tense situation. [Diplomacy check: Vel 13+8+2+10=33 ... NPC helpful!]

"I am Del Renem, operations manager of this facility," she informs you. "To what honor do we owe a personal visit from Senator Tarkin? It is unlike him to do his own dirty work. I see he has recruited the Jedi. I do not trust the Senator, but I trust the Jedi. Take these red passcards. They will allow you access to most tranports and buildings. You will need an escort for secure areas.

"As for the weapons engineer, I heard a rumor yesterday that a militant Separatist leader named Das Fi has captured one and is keeping him in a secret base in Refol City. Das Fi's ship is in Docking Bay B32.

"I heard the humor from a friend of mine, Das Gui, who runs an entertainment complex in Refol City. He knows everything that happens in Refol City. He may be able to provide you with more leads.

"Finally, I know the Jedi will look after our best interests, but many will not see you as friends. Be careful in Refol City. Stay to public places if you can.

After the Padawans have walked a few paces from the starport officials, Vel turns to his companions and speaks.

"Friends, I say we make our way to this entertainment complex the manager mentioned, and see where we can go from there," he says and smiles.

"My Master has this saying: 'When you're trying to get to the top, you always have to start at the bottom.' I'm curious to see what Seldu's seedier districts can offer in the way of information."

"Any other ideas?" he asks his fellow Padawans.

[OOC: Is it just me, or is everyone in this city named Das? :) I'm not complaining, though. Could turn out to be a good plot hook.]

SCENE: Das Delvar's Cantina, Refol City, Seldu
TIME: Day 5, noon

"What'll ya have?" the bartender shouted over the din of live music and lunch-time patrons.

Three hours had passed since your arrival at the Amdu Spaceport. The Operations Manager, Del Renem, cleared you through security quickly after taking DNA samples and providing you with pass cards. The unirail car from the surface to deep in the planet's mantle was more like a 4,000 km vertical drop. The car thundered from a frozen environment of almost absolute zero to the warm furnace of the planet's molten core.

The information computer at the Refol City Unirail Terminal provided you with directions to Das Delvar's Cantina.

Despite its location deep in the planet, Refol City was a pleasant settlement. It was known as the City of Trees among Selduans. The corridors were large, clean, and lit by overhead screens simulating natural sunlight.

Das Delvar's Cantina, although an entertainment facility, was located in the heart of the business district. Discretion was promised, and patrons were scanned for weapons and recording devices. A Vo-Go Anti-Communication Field Generator, which even the Republic military couldn't penetrate, ensured privacy. Many seedy transactions took place in the environment-controlled meeting rooms of Das Delvar's Cantina.

The cantina was a metling pot of culture, for alien species from across the galaxy could be seen enjoying the entertainment rooms or using the meeting facilities.

Your jedi senses alert you of many dangerous individuals in the room. They are not threatening you directly, but they could kill you in an instant, before you had time to draw your lightsaber.

"What'll ya have?" the bartender shouts over the din of live music and lunch-time patrons.

Vel navigates his way through the crowds of people all over the cantina toward the bar and sits down on an empty chair, keeping one hand on his lightsaber.

"A Ruby Bliel, if you have one," he answers over the din.

As he is waiting for his drink, Vel continues.

"I presume you are Das Delvar. Could I speak with the manager of this cantina, Das Gui?" Vel asks in an as inconspicuous voice as he can.
