Welcome to Tides of Change, a D20 Star Wars adventure, set in the early New Republic era. We will continue the pre game development here.

Characters: I would like at least a rough character concept by Sunday, although the sooner the better. Alignment is up to you, but I would like the characters to loosely affiliated, again I will leave that up to you. I am game for anything, if you want to play imperial remnants, new republic agents, pirates or something in between, that’s fine with me just as long as everyone’s on the same page.

Force adepts are ok, though I wouldn’t expect to see more than 1 level; maybe two with a convincing back story how you avoid detection from the Inquisitors and all.

You can use the Starting Credits for Heroes above level One (table 6-1 Heroes Guide pg 118). If you don’t have the Hero’s Guide let me know and I will give you your starting credits.

If anyone has any questions just let me know, if anyone has a preference on which world to start let me know. Currently I am leaning toward Corellia, but we’ll have to see.

You can use the Starting Credits for Heroes about level One (table 6-1 Heroes Guide pg 118). If you don’t have the Hero’s Guide let me know and I will give you your starting credits.

1) I'm not sure if I understand what you mean by "about level one". If our character is 3rd or 4th level, are you implying that we start with the amount according to what is in the chart per their level....or that we start with what it has for level one regardless of starting level.

I am game for anything, if you want to play imperial remnants, new republic agents, pirates or something in between, that’s fine with me just as long as everyone’s on the same page.

2) If you give us a little more info on how we'll be starting, I can incorporate that into my background for my character...as will everyone else be able to. That leads me to....

If anyone has any questions just let me know, if anyone has a preference on which world to start let me know. Currently I am leaning toward Corellia, but we’ll have to see.

Again, it is hard to tell what you've got going here. It looks like you have a Wookie scout mercenary, and a Human pilot/gunner mercenary. I could be wrong, but I've seen nothing about them being affiliated with the NR. If they are affiliated with the NR, I'd say Coruscant should be the starting world. Thats where business is done. If not, I'd go for a seedier world where most mercenaries go looking for work...such as Nar Shadda, Atzerri, or Carratos. As for Pahko, once I get his background approved by you (writing it now, typing and sending it tomorrow), I'll post his stats. He can easily go to the shining city world of the NR or go way the heck out in search of a team of explorers for employment as a scout, wilderness guide, or possibly a mercenary company.

rantic
22 April 2005, 11:59 AM
1)That was a typo, should be above level one. Use the starting amount given for your level.

2)As for starting I don’t want to dictate who you work for, or what faction you are against, however, I would like to the group to already be acquainted, even if just loosely.

Here are a few ideas I’ll throw at you all. Escaped prisoner-mercenaries for hire, an elite New Republic black ops group, hirelings of a Hutt crime lord, workers of an intergalactic delivery service…

I have a few ideas I am going to incorporate into the story, but how you know each other and what your doing is up to you all. If you would rather I tell you, I can do that too, but I’ll let you decide that.

In my case, You are wrong ((no offense)) Arraca is a sniper/scout for the New republic, He used to work for the Old Republic.

Drivis Corle
22 April 2005, 06:36 PM
Well I'm gonna be a merc. who worked for the rebellion, but once they took Corusaunt and became the New Republic, he's not one for organized armys, he split. He has no love for the Empire, but he goes where the money is. There he happens to fit any affiliation.

:rodian:Pahko Bendahgo;Male Rodian Fringer 4; Init +4 (+4 Dex); Defense 18 (+4 class, +4 Dex); Spd 10 m; VP/WP 38/16; Atk +4 melee (1d3+1, unarmed) or +4 melee (1d4+1/20, hunting knife) or +4 melee (1d8+1, spear) or +7 ranged (1d8+1/20, bow) or +7 or +3/+3 (multi-fire) ranged (2d8/20, slugthrower rifle); SQ Barter, Jury Rig +2, Bonus Class Skills: Move Silently, Tumble; SV Fort +7, Ref +6, Will +1; SZ M: FP 5; DSP 0; Rep +0; Str 13, Dex 19, Con 16, Int 13, Wis 10, Cha 8, Challenge Code C.
Equipment: Credit chip (1505 credits), electrobinoculars, load belt, field kit, spear, hunting knife, bow, quiver of 30 arrows, slugthrower rifle, 10 clips (120 rounds), all temperature cloak, hide clothes, blanket roll.
Skills: Climb +3, Craft (primitive weapons) +5, Handle Animal +4, Hide +8, Jump +4, Knowledge (primitive traps) +4, Listen +6, Move Silently +8, Read/Write Basic and Rodese, Ride +8, Search +3, Speak Basic, Durese, and Rodese, Spot +6, Survival +4, Swim +4, Tumble +8
Force Skills: Enhance Ability +5
Feats: Force Sensitive, Point Blank Shot, Track, Weapon Group Proficiencies (primitive, simple, slugthrowers)
Force Feats: N/A

Disposition: Despite being marooned for twelve years with his grandfather and nearly three dozen others on a world of terrible predator lizards and cats, Pahko is upbeat and pleasant to be around. In civilization, he’s found that people are either too busy to stop and say hello after he greets them with a smile and a wave….which puzzles him greatly. The nineteen year old is always to learn new trades. He understands that knowledge of the jungle has helped him survive, and in order to survive the galaxy, one needs to know the galaxy. He is thankful, appreciative and kind of an oddball for a Rodian. Of course, most people would be if they were put in his situation.

Appearance: Tall, wiry, and dressed in brownish gray leather hides and moccasins, Pahko still hasn’t adapted to a more modern appearance. His scarred up bare shoulders show that he has been through a lot in the last twelve years, and has had a few close calls with some of Predat 6’s tougher predators. He still prefers his silent and primitive weaponry, for they didn’t fail him against predators three times his size.

I'm putting something down right now to let you know I'm still serious. Sorry about the delay...again, I'll have his background in tomorrow. :)

I know it may sound kind of strange....but yes, he is hard as granite...and cheerful. He has a very positive outlook, now especially that he can go and pursue his goals finally. His grandfather had quite an influence on him in shaping his attitude (primarily to keep the young Force Sensitive Rodian from doing stupid stuff)...(edit) but don't expect him to be a push overy Mr. Rogers boy scouty character. If he gets his buttons pushed, he can be quite.... medieval. :) :rodian:

I'm looking forward to this game...looks like a cool diverse group. :)

Well, I just wanted it known that DarionA'res my Twi'leki is done pending a responce from Rantic about some questions I had. He is completely STATed out except for his equipment which I am doing now. Personally I'd prefer to be loosely affiliated with the New Republic, on the seedier side of maybe black ops wet works. But I am flexible and will go with whatever. A reason for just about all the options can be made for my character. :twilek:

Stormrider
25 April 2005, 05:07 AM
I just sent you my background Via PM rantic. And as for Arracas Description.

Physical Appearence, Arraca stands a shade over seven feet tall, Thinner than most Wookiees he is usally seen wearing a harness. A field kit backpack and of course his trademark X-45 sniper rifle, along with a viroblade and a DL-18 blaster pistol strapped to his thigh. He is covered in shaggy black fur with a silver stripe running down from his left shoulder to his right hip. His eyes are a startling icy blue like the planet Hoth. Strapped to his waist is a small droid MT-304 a translation droid set to translate Shryiwook and several other languages.

Demeanor Arraca is distant and cold and precise. Though there is another side to him. a hellish anger that is invoked should anyone threaten his loved ones ((Aka Wookiee Rage)) He is very blunt, and has no sense of tact.

Equipment, X45 Sniper Rifle, Dl-18 Blaster Pistol, Viroblade, 10-powerpacks, Field Kit. Tool Kit. 1250 credits. MT series translator droid.

Languages Basic, Shyriwook, Huttese

Nice character Storm, very nicely detailed descriptions, I'd love a look at that background your sending Rantic's way, but I can understand wanting to keep other players in the dark, I'm the same way. It keeps for a realistic gaming session when the player is as cluesless about his team members as the characte. But I'll say it again, VERY cool wookie character there.

Like all Zeltron's Raiden enjoys a good party. He also is not big on working real hard physically. He's generally a fast talker and is quick to make friends, one way or another. He loves to gamble, if you can bet on it he's into it. He spends most of his time and as much of his families money as he can on parties and the casinoes of the galaxy. He is a decent person with some not so decent history. But we all make mistakes right? He is trying to find how he fits into this New Republic but has runs across some of the wrong people (black sun, hutts etc) and has had to do some things he's not sure how he feels about to pay back what he has owed them. He always pays his debts one way or another. He's in his third decade of life(32) and has a redish pink skin tone, women find him attractive and he has an athletic build. He always wears a smile and is quick to joke but when he is gambleing or negotiating he is 100% serious and focused. He stands about 5'10"

Jak Gayne is a blond haired brown eyed soldier. Its what he's always been and its what he's good at. However he doesn't like strict coherance, but a more loose set of rules. That is why he fit into the rebellion so well. But once they became more official he left the group. He still stands for what they believe in and will defend them when nessacary. Now he works free lance as a Merc. and follows the money where it takes him. He keeps his heavy blaster at his side and his vibrdagger in his boot. He wears an armoured vest and helmet when he expects a gun fight.

Now I think my character is completely mapped out and ready to go.
:twilek:
DarionA'res is a Twi'leki all around hired man. Investigation, professional hit, cargo escort, ship repair, you name he at least dabbles in it. His life has been rough since birth back during the clone wars and it didn't get any easier when the Emperor died. He has done odd jobs for people affiliated with either side merely to stay alive. Here lately he has been leaning towards joining the Rebellion full scale but doesn't know if his shady background will allow him to be accepted there.

His navy blue skin and tattoed head tails make him stand out among his people, especially for those ignorant of the warrior class among them. He's got a distant cold look in his eyes that speaks of his stormy past and the cold blooded killer that lurks within.

:? Hmmm A fringer with a +6 class bonus to defense? At 4th level? Nooo, You take your first level class bonus to defense and add one to it every time the number advances. For example fringers start with +3 at second level it advances to +4 you add one to your class defense bonus, and at 5th level it advances to +5 add another number. and so on

This post has been brought to you by Squibbersoft the company that specializes in corrupting your computes for Life and making you our mindslaves.

Is it correct? Fringer 3 = Defense +4
Soldier 1 = Defense +3 - 2 for multiclassing

The correct class Defense is a +5, at least according to how I interpret the rules. Rantic's call though.

Honestly, I don't know what he did concerning his levels. People forget to put stuff up...I know I do. :) Originally I was just checking to see what was going on. My second query was just concern and curiosity in trying to understand how someone got that extra +1 to class defense without any sign of a feat or special ability already indicated.

Hmmmm....so, we're now on a need to know basis, and you're in that loop and we're not? You get to know about 'whatever' without story progession and the rest of us don't. Quite an interesting perk you have there. I was under the impression that if we are all posting our stats up here on this thread for everyone to see, then we'd be posting all of our stats, but I guess that isn't the case. No big deal, my character has little to hide....

My main concern right now is whether or not rantic got my background that I sent to him on Sunday as a PM.

Ok, this has gotten out of hand, I had preferred to keep it under wraps and it's my own fault but oh well. I know when I am playing with other people I prefer to know as little as possible so my own knowledge does not affect my character's reactions. Darion has a secret, that is apparent in his classes that I wanted to keep. I don't want any hard feelings here, and I definitely don't want you guys mad at Drivis based on his attempts to keep my secret. He and I are coherts and we map everything out together, bounce stuff off of each other. I am sorry for all the trouble.

Don't feel the least bit sorry man. I'm with ya. He has a secret, the players know that.........but so what? Pahko doesn't know it and neither does anyone else (speculation). :? :rodian: :?

This is part of the problem that occurs when everyone puts their stats on the table for everyone to see, and I certainly wouldn't have done so (even though Pahko doesn't really care much for keeping secrets....in fact, he likes to talk) if others hadn't put their stats up first.

We'll work with ya. :)

I had the same issues waiting on Rantic to get approval for the 'secret' here. I know life's rough on me right now and the only reason I am able to post so much is cause I'm sneaky at work. I think we're just gonna have to be ready for a slow but steady campaign. But that doesn't matter much to me. This looks like a great group and a cool GM and I'm aching for some character development on Darion who is actually planned for a Star Wars novel if I ever become the novelist I'd like to be.

I didn't even give Jak a second thought he's, well just a soldier, no secret there. So I saw no problem with the post, however had there been somthin I wanted kept hidden I would sent it to rantic in a PM

Well, I guess everyone has a different way of handling secrets, but to be honest, posting stats give everyone here insight on what your character is made of.....its just up to everyone here to claim ignorance once IC.

I could very well post that Pahko has hot pink underpants..but still you must play your character without knowing what color of underwear Pahko is wearing or if he is wearing underwear at all. You could post that he has keys to the Death Star and that he is only allowed to drive it on weekends and Tuesday nights, and no other characters would know....even if the players do. Its all about roleplaying. :)

Oh I agree with you wholeheartedly, but I know with me I'd prefer not to know something my character shouldn't know. It makes it more realistic. I know you all would have to play your characters as if they didn't know and would likely do so. It just eliminates a complication. Again if it is a bother I will lay it down on the floor, it's not a problem really just a preference.

Yes true but Fire Walling can only go so far its better when both charecter an player don't know cause then it is a genuine surprise

Yeah, I'm with you guys on that, but curiosity gets me all the time. Just wanted to know what you did, and if its a secret,....fair enough.

No bother....just all the more interested in finding out what is in character...if we ever do. :)

Yeah, I'll make sure it gets revealed at the very least so I can get your opinion on the storyline. I've put alot of work into it. Heh, hopefully the anticipation will make the revelation that much better. Heh, so anyway, do we have everyone's character at least briefly described? Also have we figured out how we at least briefly know each other. It appears we all have or can have at least a little bit of a shady past. A basic knowledge of each other and being called together by a Hutt or crimelord or maybe some New Republic Intelligence Special force operation. A sort of wet works blackops. I know my character would be leaning a bit towards the republic, Drivis' once worked for the Rebellion so could be a contact. Don't know what everyone else feels about all that though, input?

Pahko is thankful to the NR for rescuing him and his stranded people. While he is not likely to join the NR military, he will work for just about anyone as long as they don't appear to be overtly evil (like pirates), although he might work with aberrant types if it meant information on finding people from his past (before the crash).

Its been nearly ten days without an update or an acknowledgement of background acceptance. Did this game run out of steam before the race even started?

Well Drivis and I's access to the net has been severely limited, his completely. Mine only at work, but I have noticed that Rantic hasn't responded so Drivis and I are probably gonna work up a campaign to at least pass the time til he comes back. Maybe something along the lines as the reason for our association. Right now we are not really associated but we could easily be on the same planet. If we all got thrust into a situation together then we'd know each other a little better. Basically just a mini campaign. I'll discuss it with me more later.

DarionA'res and Drivis/Jak are still here as well, though I am posting for the both of us due to internet issues. Ok, here's what I got so far for our pre-campaign campaign. I think we all decided on being semi connected to the Rebellion but not specifically affiliated with them. I think Corellia was mentioned as one of the starting planets and personally it's a good one for what I have in mind. We are all there doing odd jobs when our connection to the Rebellion/Republic calls us in for a job. A unified job unlike any of us have done before. If I'm not mistaken we are all at least half the time of the loner type and when we do work together it's with our own people. We'll be like a specops team from the net guide but a little more on the merc side. Still mostly good mind you. That's my take on things anyway, please speak up if ya got something different cause that's Drivis and I are running with at the moment with the little campaign we have.

Did I lose everyone? Cause as I said I starting one to try and pick up the gap left off. If everyone's just too frustrated with this we can drop it, I just think we've all put alot of work into our characters and would hate to see that go to waste.

I'm still here...and I don't think rantic is coming back. Was it something Pahko said? (Pahko checks his arm pits).......

DarionA'res.....if you and Drivis Corle are planning on running something, my advice for you would be to start another thread giving the specifics of your game. That would probably get people moving again, and who knows....it might even attract more players to replace any who have decided to go do something else.

Yeah, our living arrangements are in a major state of limbo unfortunately. We would very much like to do a little campaign and I am debating on whether to keep the name Tides of Change or not, but doing it this way would be new for us. I think together we can manage it, especially with an understanding group of players so within the next day or 2 I will get us started hopefully, pending everyone. I'll even leave a message at the beginning of the in character thread saying that we will accept new incoming players, based on characters that have left, pending approval from me and Drivis but not an overwhelming amount.

Everyone left cool with Corellia? It's got a nice underworld mercenary feel to it, with a decent amount of Corsec to chase us and an Imperial presense still in this timeframe if I am not mistaken that is.

Yeah it'll be all fine and we are in a shadier campaing all the great deals are done with gambling right :D but otherwise yeah judt send Darion anything that you need the GM to see, but bear in mind that right now both Darion and I are working on the story and campaign so we will both see it.

Well it's posted it guys. Oh and when you order your drink from Salivu at the bar ya gotta slip in the phrase "The Tides of Change are upon us." somehow. That's the code. I'll take over again once everyone arrives and speaks the code. I hope you all enjoy.

IC: Tides of Change (http://holonet.swrpgnetwork.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17871)

Bear in mind my access to the net is limited and I will not be able to sign on again till Tuesday most likely.

Take this by what it means...not how it may sound....We are probably waiting for you to perform your GM duty of introducing us into the game (at least I am)...after all, we haven't even be mentioned as of yet. I really thought we'd be starting together, and have been waiting for an entry point now for six messages...So, where are we? :)

Edit: I've had some time think more on this and basically, I would ask that you give us some information on the side as to why we would be going to this establishment in the first place..

"Heh heh, I think Eeloo will do nicely tonight" he mumbled to himself eying his green skinned twi'lek serving girl. "If only this group of low lifes would show up." he grumbled thinking of the semi mysterious appointment set up by one of his offworld contacts.

Is this us? Could be...but it might not be. Believe me, I've been looking for entry points....but, I would think that if my character were to be a contact...he would know he was a contact in advance before entering the establishment for an appointment or brief or whatever...If we are not the contacts, then Pahko probably wouldn't want to talk to anyone in the place unless he knew what about beforehand (Pahko isn't about walking up to strangers in bars and asking them their business unless he is familiar with them)...Perhaps Pahko or others are already in the establishment?...I don't know about that though because I've read no descriptions of anyone fitting our profiles. So I'm basically lost. I've had no out of character reasoning for even talking to any of these characters, and haven't got a clue whether or not my character is in or around the establishment you are describing...That kind of makes it hard for me to partake in any happenings so far. Give Pahko a reason for being there...I'll play. Describe Pahko in the scene...I'll react...but until then...I'm waiting for you to introduce us/me. :rodian:

Ok we are sympathetic to the New Republic and some agent of the NR knows that so he contacted us all seperatly and told us to come in speake the code word to the bartender and when every one is there the secret meeting will ensue and we will get our mission. Thats the game

DarionA'res
5 June 2005, 09:44 AM
I thought we'd all established that we have no major common bond so the storyline I created will give us one. Without it we wouldn't be starting out together, which is why I set up the code word meeting. I thought I described it well enough here to get the point across but I probably didn't.

We all have been contacted by a New Republic source of each individual and told to go to this bar and say the code "The Tides of Change are upon us" to the bartender. He will then direct us all to a private room where we will watch a holorecording briefing us all on what we are to do. Afterwards we will have some interaction to get to know each other and be off.

I warned you all that I was a bit fresh and might need some input from you guys to make sure things flow smoothly. I appreciate you replying now, but if you were confused this whole time it would have been a little more helpful to tell me before now.

DarionA'res
5 June 2005, 09:48 AM
Each individual recieved the following 'text only' message, in an old code, addressed to each of you under a secret holonet name:

"Mission Brief @ Stasis Field, Blue Sector. Details given upon arrival. Code: "The Tides of Change Are Upon Us." Contact: Salivu, the Bartender. Contract Paid on Completion."

Thanks Krad for an awesome post, I'll be replying tomorrow. Unfortunately, I am very busy tonight and cannot drum up the creativity and time to post both Darion and Salivu's responces. Nice work with the serving girl there. Doing stuff like that will definitely make things interesting and a fun read. Sorry for the trouble earlier. Now to get Storm and Max into the story we'll be set to go to the 'briefing'.

Well Krad I guess we can give em another week or so and we can slowly roleplay a little bit in the bar. If I can't snag a few more players we can keep it simple and run a three people campaign I guess. I hate to let it die...Anyway, if we can keep it running between Drivis, Krad and myself til we get them that'd be great. Please come back guys!?

I just put an add up on my "Wanted For Vader" game in the Link's section. Hopefully that brings anyone looking for a game to this one. I'll be doing the same thing for "The Dawn of the Purge" when that is up and running.

DarionA'res,

How many more people are you willing to bring in?

Thanks

::Winces::Hmmmm, I'd say no more than 4. This being my first time and what not. If we get that much or more it will be slower. I am sure I can manage but it will be slower just cause I want to make it good for everyone. Anyway, looking forward to it.
