Background: Formerly an Imperial Scout with the 1053rd Stormtrooper Brigade, Sergeant Grath defected to the Alliance following the Ghorman Massacre. He is coming to Delta Platoon after a year as a Drill Instructor (focusing on Physical Instruction, Hand-to-Hand Combat, and Advanced Infantry Squad Tactics) for the Alliance SpecForce Advanced Infantry Training Center in the Denab Sector. Prior to that posting, Sergeant Grath served with various specFor regiments. This is his first time with the Big Blue One.

Fierce-willed and fiercer-tongued, he sometimes seems as hard on his own troops as he is on the enemy. Despite this coarse demeanor, Grath is a dedicated foe of the Emperor's New Order, and has served the Alliance with distinction in a dozen battles.

The nickname "Bones" has followed him throughout his Alliance service-- a reference to his former garb as a Stormtrooper Scout. He is rarely called "Bones" to his face; rumors abound of the numerous recruits and Privates that have been hospitalized after taking such liberty with the gruff and hot-tempered Sergeant.

Welcome to Delta Platoon's new digs.

First off, everyone please doublecheck your character's stats, posted above. As I write this, I've not received/updated stats for JoJohnJohansen, EZE1138, or Korwin Blade. Just letting you know...

Once everybody's on board, we'll get to a few other housekeeping items, and then onto Chapter 2.

I'll be posting new weapons, explanations of the pins and ribbons seen above, and some other stuff, real soon (so don't start asking just yet ;) ).

EDIT: Also, please post any character-stats revision stuff here; it's easier for me if it's all in one place, rather than spread among IM, email, PM, etc. Thanks much.

Kamon, max: I edited your weapons stats. Thanks for pointing it out.

Atk +8 ranged (3d6/DC 15 stun, blaster pistol, 10m) or +8 ranged (3d8/DC 18 stun, blaster pistol, 30m) or +8 melee (2d6/19-20, vibroblade)

One of those two blaster pistols seem a bit overpowered. In other words, exactly how I like them :D

Oh, yes... thanks for reminding me. At this point, everyone's Force Points and Dark Side Points are bound to be inaccurate. I haven't updated this list after the last battle- in which the FPs ran out like water, and the DSPs trickled in like, uh, bad water.

And, in your case, the FP/DSP total is, well, just entirely false.... :(

I'll post an update when I get this situation suared away... just not a priority right now. ;)

Well, I'll let someone else explain that. The short answer is "yes, you missed something." But so did Jag, so it's cool. ;)

New Class:
Soldier
New Class Special Qualities:
Bonus Feat
New Feat:
Martial Arts
New Skill Point Allocation:
4(class)+1(int bonus)+1(human)=6 total

Computer Use (2 points) +2 levels
Knowledge (Imperial Intel Modus Operandi*) - (4 points) +2 levels (I think)

* A ) To ID possible intelligence collection efforts against the unit.
Ie. The Twi-lek female in the cantina trying to elicit information from the drunk privates, or the Bothan hotel valet that asks questions that are too probing, or the weird landing procedures.

B ) To plan and conduct operations to counter these efforts.

I realize that this skill may not come in handy on the frozen battlefields of Hoth, but I'm hoping. ;)
If this is not acceptable, just apply the points to Knowledge (streetwise)

Also, I was one of the persons that misunderstood that we were Special Forces, and not Special Ops. My bad.

EDIT: I like the rank badges. If you have not already explained the ribbons, could you please. They look pretty cool. If you have, just point me in the right direction.

As we are Army and not .. NAVY... I am assuming that none of them are like "Table tennis champ" or "90 days, No DUI" . Sorry, couldn't resist a little inner-service jibes.

Bocce not to nit pick but the Armor Familiarity (Gillie suit) recuces my AC penalty to -1 and increases my max dex bonus +1. Other than the fore mentioned FP and DSP it looks good. Can't wait to see what lies ahead.

I also second Uron for an explination of what the badges mean.

EDIT

What is the final badge that I earned? No one else has it and I'm confused!

1. You forgot to add in the E-11 I snatched off of Hoth.

2. I've got knowledge ((technology)) twice. When the knowledge skill +7 is supposed to be tactics.

Other mistakes I noticed.

1. AJ. Is supposed to be Lance Corporal not a PFC.

Everyone: I'm making continual updates as I see your posts. Thanks again for the double-checking. Keep 'em coming.

I'm also changing any -2 Armor Check Penalties to -1. The -2 was for the "Hoth armor"; now you're assumed to have a standard DR 2/ACP -1 Blast Helmet/Vest.

(I kept your "customization" to DR 3, Uron. And I included Armor Familiarity for Kell and Edgar.)

And thanks to the 2-3 people who've pointed out that A and Tav have incorrect ranks listed. As I noted in post #9, this was intentional-- I hadn't gotten their level-up info, so I didn't update their stat blocks. The grapics are correct, the stats aren't.

And, look, here's one now! :)

The new skill sounds quite cool. And it's a class skill for Soldier, so 4 points = 4 ranks.

Bocce, I've done soem thinking about Rayror's Vibroaxe, which was not described very well because it wasn't particularly used much. Now seeing as it is his weapon form a while back, and its mastercrafted, I think that its reasonable to have something liek this as its description.

A handmande draywood(browny-black wood from Barab 1)/durasteel masterpiece recides in the hands of Corporal Rayror Drak'tyne, second in command in the newly formed Chaos Squad. The handle is made of pure sculpted draywood, with a reinforced durasteel core. It is a single bladed weapon, but that does not decrease its considerable lethality. The shining durasteel blade is large, sharp, and incredibnly well maintained. The standard vibrator has been improved, giving it just a little bet extra cutting ability. There are in fact three vibrator switches, each one cleverly hidden and placed so as not to be flipped on or off by accident, each covered over when held in either one-handed orr two handedform. In order to turn off the vibrator, a quick double-tap of one of the switches is required. The vribroaxe has two modes regarding on mode. At the base of the area where axeblade meets axe-handle a small, hard-to-see switch exists. On one setting, it requires a double-tap to activate, and is used in situations where it is likely that the vibrator mode would be an unwanted thing (such as when carving or delicate operations on flesh), the other mode only requires a single press. The part of the axe that contains the vibrator, powercell, and also composes the part keeping shaft and blade together is made of toughened durasteel coated with black mirror-like transparisteel to complete the stunning effect of this lethal weapon. When blood coats the black surface, it appears as a trick of light that blood is seepign into the blade, due to the red/black semi-images produced by the effect of a threeD coloured mirror. In the moonlight the black surface positively shines, in tandem with the shine cause by an ever-so-thin covering of transparisteel on the non-cutting part of the blade.

Well, Bocce, here's my version of a notched blaster rifle with elegant filigree and an an exotic wood hand-carved handle iwth an built in scope.

I found this memo, drafted a few months ago by Sgt. Grath. It should clear things up regarding the service pins:

FILE NO.: 23272-20981

INTERNAL DRAFT MEMO
Alliance Basic Infantry Training Center, Camp Hera-Crue

COMPILED BY: SFC Sinjin Grath, 1st Reg., 4th Div., SpecFor.

RECIPIENTS: All Drill Instructors and Barracks Supervisors.

SUBJECT: Alliance Service Pins

This is the quick and dirty version, folks. Fit for internal consumption, only. Use this to teach the new recruits, so they'll know what all that silver, brass, and gold on your fatigues means. And maybe some of you need reminding too. Make sure to tell them these pins aren't given out because a trooper "thinks" he qualifies, and not because some statistical aptitude report says he's "advanced" at this or that. These pins are earned, and don't let these green kids forget it.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b228/boccelounge/BoRB_Pins/pin_Combat_03.jpg
Combat Infantry Badge/Advanced Missions Badge: Denote Alliance Sector Force and Special Force infantry soldiers who have completed various levels of tactical training. Not all troopers will earn the Combat Infantry Badge; mostly, it goes to the ones that keep their damn fool mouths shut long enough to actually learn something, and get through a few missions with their worthless hides intact. The Advanced Missions Badge is awarded to infantry troops that distinguish themselves in (and survive!) 10 major missions or engagements. It denotes a true veteran of Alliance service. I got mine before Yavin, and I ain't shy about saying it.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b228/boccelounge/BoRB_Pins/pin_Driving_03.jpg
Basic and Advanced Ground Transport Pin: This pin covers a wide variety of specialties, all relating to ground transportation. This variety reflects the wide array of transportation means employed by the Alliance in its many and diverse theaters of war-- recipients include accomplished drivers of groundspeeder, tracked, or wheeled vehicles; trained animal handlers; grav-train engineers; and, occasionally, elite vehicle gunnery crewmen. The gold version is, as always, a more advanced version.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b228/boccelounge/BoRB_Pins/pin_Engineering_03.jpg
Basic and Advanced Engineering Pin: Another multi-specialty pin, these are given to experts in mechanics, repair, computers, fabrications, demolitions, and the various engineering branches (civil, military, industrial, etc.). If a body has one of these, chances are he can fix, create, slice, or blow up anything you can throw at him.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b228/boccelounge/BoRB_Pins/pin_Flight_03.jpg
Atmospheric Flight (left) and Space Flight (right) Pins: As you know, we grunts rely on Fighter Command and Alliance Navy for nearly 85% of our flight and air support needs. But that doesn't mean we don't have flight specialists of our own, and specially-qualified pilots or flight engineers get these pins. The Space Flight badge is also awarded to trained Zero-G specialists, like the guys in the 9th Space Marine Division. They can have 'em, I say. I like to keep my rifle at my shoulder and my feet firmly on the ground.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b228/boccelounge/BoRB_Pins/pin_Incursion_03.jpg
Basic and Advanced Incursion Pins: These are the pins for "special operations" types. They're given to experts in infiltration, espionage, security, intel/counter-intel, advanced unarmed combat, and other sorts of wierd specialties. You don't see too many of these guys in the SpecFor, but every unit's got at least one. Feel free to call 'em "spooks"; I know I do.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b228/boccelounge/BoRB_Pins/pin_Medical_03.jpg
Basic and Advanced Medical Pins: If you see one of these pins on the battefield, chances are you're bleeding out. Combat Medics who've undergone Basic and Advanced training wear these, and proudly. Hell, it's pretty much a guaranteed free drink at every infantryman's watering hole from here to Tosche Station.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b228/boccelounge/BoRB_Pins/pin_Recon_03.jpg
Basic and Advanced Reconnaissance Pins: Scouts, pathfinders, and other highly-skilled sneaky types get these, after they've gone through one of the various Alliance recon training programs. An army doesn't move without its scouts' go-ahead, and rightly so. You probably have one of these guys in your company, and you probably haven't spotted him yet. And you won't, not until he decides to let you. And that's just the guys with the Basic Pin. Our Advanced Recon specs are worth 20 of their Imperial counterparts, and I oughta know. 'Nuff said on that.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b228/boccelounge/BoRB_Pins/pin_Sniper_03.jpg
Basic and Advanced Sniper Pins: Not just for your average rifleman, no matter how good a shot he might be at the standard target range. These pins go to the true long-range masters, who've got the dead-on eye to engage the enemy at extreme range, and enough sneakiness to keep the enemy at extreme range.

Also worth noting is the Sea Commando Pin, which as usual comes in Basic and Advanced versions. We don't train thoses guys here at the base, and a vidcap wasn't available. As the name suggests, they're awarded to experts in marine combat, including amphibious, surface, and undersea operations. Like Space Marines, they're often found in entire units, but occasionally, an individual Sea Commando (or two) will be assigned to an infantry company.

That's it then. Make sure your boys have it straight. If I hear one more of 'em ask "what's with the rats and sword," it's gonna be a bad night for somebody...

OOC: Mack Jace, you of course have the Sea Commando pin. The forums limit posts to 8 images, so I had to cut one... no slight intended. AndI think it's safe to say that you have the monopoloy on this particular pin. [there'd be a 'smiley' here, but you know, too many graphics]

Sinjin Grath is the new Platoon Sergeant. Your new boss. See post #2 for details.

Completely off of the BoRB topics. That was one way you can always tell when you've been transferred to a real 'winner' of a unit in the Army. The campaign ribbons on top of the guidon don't say things like "Ile de France 1918", or "First UN Counteroffensive", or " Third Korean Winter", or "Kuait Liberation". Instead they say things like "30 days dug/alcohol free" and "100% Pass Common Task Training 2004" and "AWOL Free 30 days". The first time I attended an awards ceremony and I saw a unit awarded the "30 Days Awol Free" AND everyone was applauding and 'cat-calling', I almost busted a gut. Needless to say, I wasn't really liked after that.

For my part-- sorry to ignore your question. I gave brief explanation in the old OOC thread (originally, I'd posted Sgt. Nomak's badge to use as an example):

C. Awards and Commendations - this section is specific to the missions, battles, or campaigns the soldier has served in, So far, Sgt. Nomak has only one: Hoth. There are five ribbons in his stack. From top to bottom, they are:

1. The top ribbon is the "Defense of Hoth Medal," a new award, presented to all Alliance Forces present at the Battle of Hoth. The blue and white stripes were chosen to represent the site of the battle; the platinum "Phoenix" indicates that the battle was fought in defense of the Alliance Main Headquarters.

The next three ribbons are commendation awards; each represents a specific type of service that the soldier was recognized for during the Hoth Campaign. I won't tell you exactly how I determine commendations, but I'll give some hints.

2. Bronze Commendations: these acknowledge the soldier's committment to his unit, and to the Alliance (related to IC post rate). Nomak received TWO such commendations.

3. Silver Commendations: acknowledge soldier's active and beneficial contributions to his fellow soldiers, off the field of battle (related to IC role-playing efforts). Nomak got a commendation for this too.

4. Gold Commendations: are given for the soldier's actions on the field of battle. He got yet another commendation here.

5. Some soldiers have a fifth bar, reserved for special awards or commendations from the Hoth campaign. In Sgt. Nomak's case, he's been awarded the Redbird, given to soldiers wounded by the enemy.

The idea is that everyone will get a new "stack" for every Chapter. I've worked up all the commendations and awards for Chapter 1; I'll post them in the forthcoming OOC thread for Chapter 2. This is mostly for fun, but there are XP bonuses attached to the commendations as well.

The "Defense of Echo Alpha" battle resulted in what (I'm guessing) is an unusually high number of awards and commendation for Delta Platoon. As you can see, Nomak alone was awarded 6 times for the battle... and he got a nice promotion to boot.

More info to come.

So do we strive for craziness or is it just a natural thing for a group like this. I personally try to live by the saying "Go big or Go home" so if crazy is the idea point me to the nearest straight-jacket (I need a XXL) :D

I know bocce, I'm a nitpicker and I know that this is a NPC, so I don't have to bother or care but recently this came to my attention. I'm sorry bocce.... but I cannot.... hold it....

No apology necessary. You're absolutely correct: to gain more than one level of the Office PrC, you guys need at least 6 ranks in Diplomacy.

Here's a recent transmission "Flash" (your platoon commander) received from his boss, Major Deryon (leader of Phoenix Company).

This is technically "OOC" information, for now:

[INTRA-COMPANY FLASHCOM MESSAGE]

SENDER: Major Gereint Deryon, CO, 3rd Company (Phoenix), 41st Battalion, 1st Reg (Corellian), 4th Division, SpecFor.

RECIPIENTS: LFC Zak Samson, Delta Platoon Commander.

SUBJECT: Commendations After Action at ECHO ALPHA STATION, 4th Platoon (Delta).

BODY TEXT:

Zak, your boys did a hell of a job at Alpha. I am saddened to hear of the loss of P2 Igiro-Ton, but damn it, you brought the rest out alive. You've got to put your grief aside, if not for yourself, then for your men.

I also acknowledge your formal complaint regarding the trooper and equipment situation. We'll get you some replacements ASAP, and I'll do what I can to see you have heavier weapons as well. From what I'm hearing from Battalion, it sounds like the AHC has something big cooking, so I won't be surprised when we get everything we're asking for, and then some.

Well, down to the brass tacks now. Your recommendations for citations has come back, and I'm glad say AHC has seen fit to approve about 90% of what you asked for. The final tally is as follows:

That McGregor is a hell of a soldier, Samson. AHC declined your request for the other two troopers to get the SSM, but McGregor was a no-brainer, even for the top brass. You be sure and play it up, too. AHC is worried about trooper morale after the recent setbacks; we need to make sure each and every Platoon is properly motivated for the coming offensives. Consider that an order. And a congratulations.

It was a hell of a tough fight, and your boys did a bang-up job. Command estimates that 45% of the Echo Base ground staff, including General Rieekan and the Princess, got out after the Imperials attacked your position. Your platoon kept the Alpha sensor network up and running, and as far as I'm concerned that was every bit as crucial as what Fighter Group 10 or the Ion Gunners did.

Oh, and I put you in for a few citations too. I know you wanted to downplay your role in the engagement, but I'll have you get your due.

Well, get them back in fighting shape. Looks like Phoenix Company will be on the move again soon.

[MESSAGE ENDS]

Addendum: Terms and Definitions

AHC - Alliance High Command, in charge of all Alliance military operations.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b228/boccelounge/BoRB_Pins/ribbon_CY_Defense_Of_Hoth_00.jpg Defense of Hoth - This medal was presented to all Alliance Forces present at the Battle of Hoth, including posthumously to casualties of the battle.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b228/boccelounge/BoRB_Pins/ribbon_Superior_Service_Medal_00.jpg Superior Service Medal - This award is bestowed by the Alliance to individuals who distinguish themselves in the ongoing battle against the Empire. It is a simple and elegant medal, with the Alliance symbol hung from a red and blue ribbon (the smaller ribbon form is shown here).

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b228/boccelounge/BoRB_Pins/ribbon_Redbird_00.jpg Redbird - Awarded to Alliance soldiers "for wounds received in action against the enemy in the meritorious performance of duty."

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b228/boccelounge/BoRB_Pins/ribbon_Purple_Cross_00.jpg Purple Cross - Superior to the Redbird, the Purple Cross is awarded to soldiers who showed bravery and courage and were crippled, wounded, or killed in action.

Campaign Citations (Bronze, Silver, and Gold) - Awarded for outstanding service during a given campaign (or battle). Citations are based on the Commanding Officer's recommendations and review by the AHC. Multiple citations may be given in a campaign; technically four is the maximum, though it is exceedingly rare to receive more than three. One is the norm for above-average service. They are commonly referred to as "'birds," as in "I received 2 silver and one gold 'bird at Yavin IV; would've had a bronze too, if I hadn't punched that supply corporal."
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b228/boccelounge/BoRB_Pins/cy_ribbon_Longevity_Medal_A01.jpg Bronze Campaign Citation - Awarded for "honorable and faithful service" to one's unit.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b228/boccelounge/BoRB_Pins/cy_ribbon_Longevity_Medal_B01.jpg Silver Campaign Citation - Denotes soldiers "who have distinguished themselves by outstanding non-combat meritorious achievement or service to the Alliance to Restore the Republic."

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b228/boccelounge/BoRB_Pins/cy_ribbon_Longevity_Medal_C01.jpg Gold Campaign Citation - Officially the Gold Citation is awarded to a trooper that has "distinguished himself or herself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service, not involving participation in aerial flight, while engaged in an action against an enemy of the Alliance; while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the Alliance is not a belligerent party." Unofficially, they're known as "warbirds."

EDIT: I added a "OOC" preface, at the top.

Just for future reference, I'd like everyone to know that Orr has added Speak Language (Military Hand Signals) to his list of skills. Through IC roleplay, I hope to teach AT LEAST my squad these signals, in hopes of making a abetter fighting unit. That said, I have a request for the players in C squad: try and leave a skill point or two unaccounted for in your next level, so you can pick up Speak (MHS)...its no fun miming alone...

Yeah! Especially when all the other kids in the park start throwing stuff and you, and punching you, and then throw you into a garbage can and toss you down the...

Er, well... uh, that's what I've heard, anyway.

Anyway, yes-- the "Hand Signals" thing (cold's idea) is exceedingly cool, IMO. I've recently rewatched a bunch of war films, including the "real" Band of Brothers, and, well, hand signs are always there.

As they can only be used to communicate relatively simple messages, the skill Speak (Military Hand Signals) will cost everyone 1 skill point, regardless of class.

EZE1138

So, maybe we could use Smiliies to replicate the Hand Signal system. Could go like this:

:wedge: :rodian::sabersml: :scouttpr:

So it would read:

"Wedge formation, sneak around back (because Rodians are, er, sneaky) and cut them scouts up"

Or:

:chirpa: 8o 8o

Would be "Retreat!!!" Or, alternately, "Create a complex and perfectly laid trap using logs and rope"

That said, I will alter character to include Hand Signals. Take one off of Bluff and add "Hand Signal Fu" to my repetoire.

Excelsior!

But yeah, that could work. How about:

"Have spotted Imperial Walkers-- sound the retreat! Don't worry, have sent the Bothan to distract them, while we jet outta here. Over."

You're Welcome,

The Master of Dumbing It Down

BTW, it's come to my attention that EZE1138 really, really, really, really, REALLY hates use of the term "Stormies" to describe the BoRB's fearsome Imperial enemies. He said something about "anything ending in 'ies' destroys the whole [expletive deleted] mother-[expletive deleted], [expletive deleted], god-[expletive deleted] thing!!!" Then he trailed off into untelligible hatred-filled vitriol.

So, perhaps, we can come up with a better epithet than "Stormies" to describe our foes. One 'Silver Bird' to the best suggestion.

How bout we call them Stamps? Becuase they pretty much get stamped out, there's so many of them. Or, in Latin, the word for white is Albus, we could call them Albans. Or the Latin word for Storm is Procella, or Procs. I've taken Latin, so I can give you almost any word in Latin. Just tossing suggestions out there.

EZE1138

My hate-filled vitriol NEVER ends a rant...it is what starts it. I was just drifting from one rant to another but you missed it because it was about the lack of hand signals on the Holonet. they have them up above in the Message Icon area but not in the smilies. Harumph!! <deleted> <deleted>

Yah, Stormies just sound cute and squeezable. My daughter got a Stormie when I gave her the bobble-head sized Storm Trooper toy from Burger King...and Bothans HATE Burger King. Though nothing will replace the guy who talked about the Whiteys coming to get us. That was awesome! :D

In all the EU and movie stuff were there NO derogatory words to minimize the enemies of the Rebellion? I mean, we have the suggestion of Boners on the table and I can't deny the allure of that word but still... Imps? Impies, for the -ies lovers among us? Shellheads? Boneheads? Republicans? Eggshells? Rattlers (because there armor rattles)?

I am up for anything...and if Stormies win because people like a cute enemy, I am all there. Or, well, maybe...er...

Since everyone seems to be customizing weapon appearances...I might as well join in. :D

When first obtained
Ketran's E-11 was horrifying reminder of the Empire and Hoth. The Imperial Crest was carved into the stock....... Dried Blood from the Stormtrooper covered most of the gun giving it an even darker appearance. but most of all were the notches...six in all. Carved into the barrel these represented the number of Rebels killed.

Currently
The gun has undergone an overhaul cosmetically. With the blood being scrubbed off, and the notches and crest filed away. In the crests place is carved a small planet dyed a mix of white and blue. With the words....A salute to those who were lost on Hoth....... carved around it. No notches are engraved on the barrel.....Ketran refuses to make sport of those he killed.

PsychoInfiltrator
30 October 2005, 02:19 PM
Interesting. Rayror refuses to ever notch his battle axe because he doesn't want to damage the weapon.

Oh, and for specialties, might Rayror eventually qualify for the "Spook" type thing as a close combat/unarmed specialist? (IMA, MA, DMA, Claws, Tail, Bite, +15 Intimidate...)

First, Bocce, excellent write up on the awards and 'letter from HQ".

Secondly, Rayror can always call them LUNCH. Just flip the helmet over and have some storm-bain soup.

Thirdly, Stormrider, I like the idea of decorating the E-11. Could you also paint a picture of some ferocious beast head on the front so it looks like its spraying blaster fire from its mouth. We could name it too. We need to find some SW beast of legend. A real-life equivelant would be like a Banshee or somehing of the sort.

Well, if we are going for short then Ewok is a nice, short, hideous monster. What, you meant short in name? Ah. I see. Well then. How about the Uk of Jelvis 3. An Uk is horribly large, difficult to kill and mean as...well, as the Alderaanians say, "Mean as an Uk what woke up too early." They would be considered the most fearsome creature of the Star Wars universe except that they only wake up once every 130 years and then only long enough to grab a bite (don't be near by!), mate a bit (seriously, don't be near by!) and then hit the sack (If still near by at this point, give it up). They do this as a herd all at the same time. Terribly fascinating...and a terribly short word which would be an easy exclamation if being attacked.

ST 1: AHHH!! Run!! It's an Uk
ST 2: Gah!
Uk 1: Gulp.

It is their very fearsome demeanor that they got such a short name. Too long and you are a gonner. So there.

What were we talking about?

LOL. I am sorry, but that reminded me of a Spongebob episode:

Squidward: “The Hash Slinging Slasher!!”
SpongeBob: “The Mash Bringing..The Stash Singing..”
Squid: “ Yes, The Hash Slinging Slasher, but most people just call him the Haa!! Because that’s all they can get out before he gets them with his rusty spatula.”

EDIT: Actually, I meant a name like...Well... Bertha. We could paint the what ever cool animal on it then just name it 'The Hell Bringer' or 'Eugene' or something really fierce like that.

After some days of being busy we're ready to go forward. A few items:

- I've decided that everyone ought to know the "military hand signals." We'll consider it part of your advanced infantry training. It won't 'cost' any skill points. I won't add it to the character records; you'll just be assumed to have it.

- I'm finishing up a few things, including a list of weapons available to the platoon. The squad leaders (Sgts. Nomak, Oran, and Orr) will have final say on who gets what.
Besides the normal repeaters ("Berta II?") there will be a couple grenade launchers, a mortar, a blaster cannon (like a bazooka), and several long blaster rifles up for grabs. After I post, you'll be able to put in your requests here on this thread, and they'll decide what's what.

- IC thread starts in about 24 hours.

And don't fret over this stuff too much; items can be re-assigned or re-distributed as needed, and as the situation calls for it. I'm just getting all the nitty-gritty stuff out of the way, so we can commence to IC'ing. ;)

1 HK-47 Underbarrel Launcher (you do know that HK-47 was the single greatest KotOR character ever, right? :P ) This will be given to Jag.

1 T-21 Light Repeater. This will be given to Tav.

1 DLT-20A Blaster Rifle, to be given to Edgar.

I do believe that would be it for my squad. Whaddya think?

Bocce, when you put that this was stuff in addition to "personal weapons as a part of the 'standard equipment' package" are you saying that this is above and beyond what we already had at Hoth or are we being resupplied in between battles and can only keep unique personal items? If this is not a resupply, Sarge, I was wondering if I could just stick with my ol' blaster rifle instead of this here fine repeater (bothans become folksy when discussing weapons). While the ability to lay down a ton of fire is cool, I reckon (see, folksy!) my skill sets are more in tune with picking out shots and making sure they hit. The rifle I already have meets my personal damage-dealing needs (while it doesn't deal damage as well as the Blaster Rifles in that list, it does crit more). And it already has "Uk" carved into the side of it (Tav's daddy was eaten by an Uk, damn it!).

Just a thought. But I live to serve, as the saying goes. By that I mean, I am outranked and have to do what I am told. :D

PS On an unrelated Star Wars note, anyone playing Battlefront II on Xbox live? It is pretty fun SW goofiness (and it has the bonus of having "Bothan Spy" as a playable class). I meant that the 'personal weapons' would replace the weapon you took "free" as part of your standard equipment package.

The Alliance owns your weapons, not you; my thought is that normally, infantry troopers turn in their weapons when not in combat, and are re-issued new ones as needed (I'm speaking here of your blaster arms, mainly-- not pistols, air guns, lightsabers, or cooking knives).

For you The Big Blue One guys, however, they usually let you keep your personal weapons, until you turn them in or replace them.

So, I'm offering you a chance to turn yours in for different/better models.

The Platoon weapons, on the other hand, are issued to the platoon, and change hands as needed.

Sorry but after looking at the stats of the DLT-20A I rather take a Heavy Blaster Pistol and a Blaster Carbine. Here (http://holonet.swrpgnetwork.com/showthread.php?postid=238969#post238969) is my rifle. I'm also using a x6 power scope w/ Night Vision on it. What I'd like to do to it is over focus the beam, there by increasing the critical threat range by one. I'd also like to do is modify the focusing chamber and power cell to increase the range of the rifle, (in effect take 50 * 1.5 = 75m range increment).

So the new an improved rifle would have a critical threat of 18-20; now my question is would that also affect the special fire mode of the rifle in effect making it 17-20 or 18-20. Also if I were to take Improved Critical (Blaster Rifles) would that make it 17-20 base, 16-20 special? Just something’s to think about.

Personal Weapons:
2.... Merr-Sonn Model G8 Blaster Rifles
8.... BlasTech LS-14 Blaster Carbines
4.... BlasTech DLT-20A Blaster Rifles
2.... BlasTech T-21 Light Repeating Blaster

The above weapons are weapons that someone already has. That is why they are called personal weapons.

Squad Weapons:
3.... SoroSuub HK-47 Underbarrel Grenade Launchers
.... (installed on standard Alliance Blaster Carbines)
2.... Merr-Sonn Model G11 Grenade Launchers
1.... SoroSuub TTT-54 "Thumper" Mortar
1.... Golan Arms M88 Heavy Repeating Blaster
1.... SoroSuub LG-94 Blaster Cannon

1.... Heavy weapons generator

The above weapons are the only weapons that will be handed out to the squads. And that will be determinded by the Squad Leaders.

EZE, I'm not quite sure what I was thinking on your account. wyld, I'll request the light repeater for you if you feel like using it, but only if you continue the gratuitous use of the word sir.

The request for the underbarrel launcher is still in effect, and I'm going to request one of the DLT's for myself instead of for Edgar. Balosars are very wee. And we like big guns. :D

So the new requisition list looks thusly:

1 Underbarrel Launcher for Jag

1 DLT-20A for me

Possibly 1 T-21 Light Repeater, also for Jag

To the T-21, as I've said before, no.

We already have one in the squad, and I/Orr believe(s) in the good of the platoon over the good of the one squad. Best to let the other squads take advantage of that weaponry.

As for the rifle/carbine issue, I made that decision based on the fact that only the LS-14s can have the underbarrel launcher attachments.

Thus, unless the underbarrels will be allowed on other rifles, I'll still strongly recommend you take the carbine with the 'nade attachment. However, if you really plan on making an issue of it, you'll be allowed to keep the rifle. (It's not a 'special' weapon is it? Your rifle that is. I mean, like it doesn't have any IC uniqueness, does it?)

Yeah, that's generally what I'd had in mind. But I'd figured the non-sergeants would make requests first, then the NCOs would sort it out. Good to see the Sergeants taking charge, though.

Sorry, I should've been clearer: the LS-14 is a standard RCR blaster carbine; the M88 is a standard heavy repeater. I was just giving them names. I posted all the stats you can't find in the AEG.

"Yes" and the 20-shot powerpack weighs 0.1 kg (it is a standard RCR item). And to be extra clear: the "generator" mentioned in the equipment post has not been statted yet. It'll probably weigh in around 20-30 kg, and have protection similar to the E-Web generator we discussed previously.

Well, yes, you guys do receive salaries. I even dug up a little payscale chart for all Alliance ranks. But ultimately, I realized that it's really not useful to this game, as you have little ("zero," actually) chance to spend your Alliance Script.

And Alliance supply depots don't generally stock archaic ammunition; it's just far less cost-effective than blasters. The only place you could "buy" slug ammo is at an Imperial-regulated gunshop, I guess... would you like to roleplay going into a Imp gunshop, trying to buy explosive rounds with Alliance-printed money? We can do it... what was your back-up character idea, coincidentally? ;)

I'm going to piece together the weapons requests recieved so far, make a few character record revisions (including AJ and Nomak, as requested), then put up the IC thread. Should take me between 1 and 19 hours.... :(

Yes, and I've gotten a few questions along the lines of "when can I act?" Think of the current turn as "pre-combat." Everyone one will be relaying orders, preparing for their assignments, recon-ing the enemy positions, and introducing their characters.

I don't expect any shooting to start until Turn Two, when Orr orders his squad (and Shorrarr's team) to open fire.

But, as I've said, feel free to act ahead of orders if you want to. If you really want to. If you survive enemy fire, you'll have to face Sgt. Grath...

So, for Turn One, post an intro post anytime you'd like to; expect fighting and tactical movement to begin in Turn Two.

Cold, as a reminder of Hoth and to replace the psot I treid Yesterday when my Internet went screwy and refused to post,

I'd liek to say Rayror'll keep the rifle. I mean, Nades are fine and all, but try explaining firing Nades to a Barabel. Side,s everyone else got em, and pillbox-sniping on multi fire would be useful right about mind. With that in mind,, off to the IC.

Here's a quick n' dirty update post before I start my IC junk:

Yes, I did get the Python reference. Best skit of all time, IMO, especially with the "How Not to Hide" part :D New weapons list looks fine.

Oh yeah, and after this battle is over, I say its high time for some R&R. You know, camping, hunting, throwing some nades into a river to see what floats up, that sort of thing. Of course, anyone with a high-calibur weapon and a grudge against small woodland creatures is invited. ;)

Weeeeeeeeeell...
I just saw that there are two underbarrel grenade launchers free... and I would like to request one for Shorrarr's bowcaster, if this is possible. I think I've mentioned this month ago in the old OOC thread or via AIM... but don't nail me down to it.
Hopefully this works and Shorrarr will have a new toy to play with.

P.S.:
bocce you said that there is a new power generator in use for the heavy repeating blaster. I assume that Shorrarr isn't wearing the back pack power generator since he and the Private (I cannot recall his name) got the new one. Futhermore I assume that the Private has to move this gib thing around...:P :D

The "underbarrel" launchers are designed for and (as stated) installed on standard Alliance Blaster Carbines. Sorry if I was unclear.

Gah! You people! If you WANT a UBA (underbarrel attachment), you MUST take the weapon that incorporates it. I think bocce's been through this like three times already. The underbarrel launchers are on the LS-14s. That's it, just those. Sure, I'd like to have one, but I prefer the DLT-20A's increased stopping power over the added versatility of the UBA. If we were allowed to put them on any weapon, I think everyone would have one, even the heavy weapon people (IMO, the heavy weapons such as HRB, LRB, and the like would almost always be used from a stable rest, making the UBAs nearly totally useless, then again, the heavies are particularly well-suited to what they do...)

Holy cow...:P:D

Speaking of Gods and a line from the IC...does Lucas ever write a line referring to gods?? I am not being critical because his writing isn't always consistent. "I'll see you in Hell!" shouts Han so one would assume that Hell is a spiritual location that is opposite of Heaven which implies some sort of religious beliefs, even if they are merely a comfortable euphamism for Han to yell out even though he doesn't believe in some all powerful force out there.

That said, Hell could actually be a moon in the Nubian sector and Han was literally saying, "I'll see you in Hell...because it is likely that I will head there as a way to hide from Jabba and maybe we can meet and have a drink." But I doubt it.

I am sure the EU has a ton of God stories from the various planets but beyond that is there any all-compassing belief system outside of the Force?

That said...er...kill the Stormies!!

I've already talked to Uron about this... but for everyone's benefit, the unnamed Private listed below Shorrarr is his "second gunner." He carries around the tripod, helps carry the generator, and generally assists Shorrarr (for the new players, Shorrarr = Uron Teff = big Wookiee heavy weapons specialist).

Rayror's given his orders. (I hope I understood what Orr 'said,' it was a touch unclear.)

As to the camping...what about an extremely high calibre Vibroaxe? Or better yet, claws?

Not quite so seriously, would it be possilbe to have soem out-of-combat IC time after this battle? To, like, say, plan our approach to our next mission, build relationships, hold a boxing contest, get to know each other better, and hold a banquet in honour of the continued survival of us.

Are you really thinking this is the main "fight" in the second chapter. From my point of view this is only the introduction in the new second chapter. I don't think that bocce is reducing this game to a blast-'em-all-game. I think there is a purpose that we are there doing what we are doing....:P

I have not lost all my faith in such.

My faith in the Holonet having at least a few RolePlayers who aren't swamped who appreciate out-of-combat games, however, has been quite shaken.

I wouldn't mind a boxing contest. Since Dax, Shorrarr and Rayror are the three main Close Combatants, we could have a three way boxing match! Actually, that would be more like wrestling... But, still, it would be fun... I'm just yearning to have Daxter participate in close combat. Although, he WOULD be outmatched by the two aliens... Oh well, gotta love watching a human get smacked around by a fuzzball and a lizard! :D

And I wouldn't mind some rest time. But I'm sure there will be some time up ahead. Blasting apart these buggers gets tiring, and Daxter needs some rest for his young bones.

My faith in the Holonet having at least a few RolePlayers who aren't swamped who appreciate out-of-combat games, however, has been quite shaken.

Methinks you've taken the facts...and run precisely in the wrong direction with them toward your conclusion.

While it is true that many HoloNetters are 'swamped' with real life, myself included, the vast majority of us, I think, can and would make time for any game they genuinely wanted to be a part of. That said, I think the crickets that are chirping over on your InfoNet thread are indicative of several key points you've failed to factor into your analysis.

1) Pessimism - You can't help but notice how many of these games fall by the wayside. Because of this, a game that hasn't lasted more than a few months and already is wanting more players because of inactivity looks risky at best, and a waste of time at worst.

2) Tenure - I don't know if thats really the right word for it, but I know myself that I am extremely leery of joining a game started by anyone I don't know. Even this BoRB I was concerned about, with bocce being a relative newcomer to the boards. I'm glad to see I needed not fear.

3) Reputation - Somewhat linked with the above reason, you don't have much of one here on the HoloNet, and the people who can comment on your actions would probably give less-than-stellar reports. It's trying enough playing alongside someone you don't get along with (nobody here, to be sure), but it's agony playing under someone like that (again, noone here).

4) First post - Strongly liked with the last two, your first post probably kept alot of people away. You copy & pasted (nearly verbatim) my InfoNet post for RG1, but I believe your results differed so greatly due to two key issues: you aren't me, and you wanted different results than I did. I knew that, through the series of pbps I've been a part of, that many people were familiar with my playing style and would probably be interested in a game I was running, based on my reputation alone (I'm not trying to sound like an ass, just calling 'em like i see 'em). The purpose of my no-nonsense, somewhat gruff post was precisely designed to discourage people from applying, especially those that couldn't meet my fairly strict guidelines. It also made it pretty hard for newcomers to the HoloNet to get in, simply because I asked for references, which many newer guys haven't had time to meet. I'd spent alot of time thinking about exactly what I wanted to say before I made that post. Time that you didn't spend before you copy & pasted it into your own thread. This ushers in my second reason: we wanted different results. With that post, I aimed to reduce my number of applicants, which I succeeded at. The post that I wrote did precisely the same thing for you, however, whether you'll admit it or not, this isn't what you wanted, obviously, else you wouldn't be sulking in a separate game, griping about the lack of attention your thread had received. I knew precisely what I wanted out of my wording, and I hoped I had the reputation to still attract gamers (only the serious ones would follow the rules I set forth). My gamble paid off and I was rewarded with several high-quality submissions and had t make a difficult decision. You on the other hand, apparently do not have the reputation that can bear such stringent demands of the community.

Sheesh! Didn't mean for that to get so long winded, but honestly, it's really off-topic here and frankly, I was getting tired of reading it. I don't want to antagonize anyone, just try to help everyone understand what (I think) is going on.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

PsychoInfiltrator

Actually, if you compare what you posted and what I posted, Cold, you'd see that I actually changed it quite abit. I though about and knew exactly what I want for players: dedicated people, people who aren't going to drop out soon for whatever reason, peopel who've been here for at least a few weeks, people who are on more than once a month, and people who want a very open game with relatively little combat. My last post was somewhat of an over reaction to a PM I received and and a great deal of frustration over the fact that few people have started the application process. Which, in hindsight, I should have expected because thjat means that they are much more likely to have the characteristics waited for above.

As for peopel saying bad thigns about me-that's mostly limited to people pissed off at me about Tempest, and to a much lesser extent the HotShot Quiz. People from, or who read, for example, Ronin's 22nd, Max Smuggler's, TAOD, KotNJO, much of my non Roleplaying Forum posting, and I think BorB as well, are much more inclined ot see that while I made some mistakes, I am not a creature of mistakes. I have a bad rep on a portion of the Holonet, but the rest of the Holonet has seemingly taken the much more reasonable approach of looking at my character and posts as a whole. (Or, in some cases, a fraction of the Holonet that does not include Tempest.) Also, I really hope people figure out that Drendar and I are not at each other's throats. We had several well reasoned PMs between the two of us, discovered and reversed misconceptions about each other, and decided to be friends again. I got over it, he ogt over it, and I'm hoping much of the Tempest-viewing Holonet did as well. Everyone has made mistakes, after being here awile most people have made a big mistake. I made a couple bigger than msot and they just so happened to be in a very watched area of the Holonet. I think that most people do and everyone should look past that and see that I'm not really a conflict oriented obsessive munchkin freak. Even among Tempest I count some as friends and more as good-terms acquaintances. This isn't specifically aimed at you, Cold, but at a few other people: Some people are blowing things out of proportion. Let me get on with my life.

Wow. I meant that to be a whole lot shorter...

EDIT: Dent, whether you choose to apply or not, its several years post NJO, and any Vong stuff will be well explained. Also, it is unfortunately an Infinites campaign because of Dark Nest. I didn't like Joiner all that much, especially how it dealt with Jedi and politics, and its not compatible with this game.

To end the flaming, I'll take the word. May I?
Reading a lot of your stuff Psych. somehow I know how you are reacting (guess I think I know). But as you have said, you overreacted. Well I saw you overreacting more than once, so here is my advice for you. try to think about the consequences of a post, mail or word before you write or speak them. This is not meant as an offense or an insult or whatever bad you think this is. It is meant as a helpful friendly advice.
I think everybody has an opinion about somebody elses roleplaying styl or his personality. Nonetheless I have tried to keep my opinion to myself most of the time.
And this time I'll do it as I've allways done it. I'll keep the most of my thoughts to myself. Yeah, I made a statement in the first paragraph. But actually my opinion about you Psych. is more profound than only those few short sentences.

But anyway, please folks lets try to solve this via PM, AIM, Y!IM, ICQ or whatever messenger service you are using. My ICQ number and my AIM username is available in my profile. So, now you can start picking on me... or you can just leave the topic and we get back to the roleplaying!

To bocce: Apologies, but I felt I had to respond to the quoted portion. It won't happen again.

Also to bocce (on topic too!:)): Orr is good to go using supression fire, correct? I remember I tried to use it in the last adventure but was unable to for some reason that I can't recall. If you recall, and if it still applies, please let me know so that I can change my post. It was just something I thought of today and wanted to make sure everything would check out and go smoothly when you went to type your resolution post (which I can't wait to read! :D).

Yes, we weren't hit, thankfully, as my girlfriend just informed me that the 'nado hit F4 status at least three times, was 40 ft. wide at points, and stayed on the ground for 20 miles consecutively. Had it hit the campus, most of the people here would probably be dead or severely wounded. OK, Turn One is wrapped up, onto Turn Two.

This one was deceptively difficult to set up; I'm hopeful that I've ironed out several "technical" problems I had, and that the rest of the combat will be much easier to resolve.

On top the problems I had, please note that I have certain "windows of opportunity" when it comes to working on this stuff; if I don't finish inside one window, I often have to wait a day or two until I can pick it up again.

But, long story short, it shouldn't take so long to produce resolutions in the future.

Please post your Turn Two actions. It will comprise about 4 rounds of combat action. Dialogue and non-combat RP are encouraged, as always, but try to post only once per turn (it's just easier to keep track). Thanks.

DentArthur: I'm glad you're OK, and you're in my thoughts. Take care.

Ok, bunker 3 is still there right? Just all the stormies are dead? or did the mortar take out the bunker completely? Just wondering because a vacant bunker would make a nice place for the Day Walkers to converge on, giving good cover and nice shots at the pillbox and two of the other bunkers. Just wondering before I post for turn 2

Yes, the bunker (foxhole, if you prefer) is still physically there. Note, however, that it's built to face "out": from inside, it provides little or no cover from the pillbox. It could provide some cover from the "outside," of course.

Good question-- thanks fer asking.

OK, I was feeling dyslexic when I posted for last turn (sorry about posting twice! :o), so I want to get our positions squared away:

From the NW to the SE along the road:

Shorrar & co. --- Mortar team --- Orr & Haarshi --- Shorrar & co.

That's how I'm seeing it. If I'm wrong, please correct me. I'll hold off on posting till I get a nod either way on that. Also, we're all pretty much lined up on the dark green squiggle that I assume is the road, correct? Using the embankment for whatever coever it can give us.

Finally, what's the munitions situation look like? I know Orr carries plenty of powerpacks (10 iirc), but how do we look in the grenade and mortar round department? Are grenades and mortar ammo the same thing?

Thanks! :D

The ammo doesn't matter-- normally, I'll keep track, but for this combat you had plenty of time to prepare.

The positions don't matter too much, but I'm using:

Shorrarr - Rayror - Orr - Mortar

as the order, left to right. 3rd Sqd is all basically close enough to communiate orally or by hand signal.

And yes, my assumption is that they're lined up on the road (indicated by a green line), and using whatever existing cover there is to best effect.

EDIT: and everyone in 3rd should know who they're with-- Kell, Jakk, and Ric.

EDIT 2: Oh, as far as rounds, I'm assuming that the underbarrel launcher, G-11 rifle launcher, and the mortar all use different shells. The AEG rules suggest they all use the same ammo, but I like the idea of different ammo. And, BTW, the UB's do 4d6 damage, the G-11 is 4d6+1, and the mortar is 4d6+2.

EDIT 3: And I leave open the possibility of more powerful mortar rounds being used in the future.

Oh yeah, Mack. I assumed you still had the "boom-stick." You could also have equipped yourself with whatever standard blaster arms you wanted to.

I was under the assumption that you had shotgun, blaster carbine, and vibrodagger, but you tell me what your load-out looks like.

Bocce, about how far away to the East are Kestrel & Spades from Bunkers 4-6? I'm going to switch targets to aim at Bunker 6 and engage at will. I'd like to use my new feat Kill Shot (http://holonet.swrpgnetwork.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18267&perpage=1&pagenumber=191) when applicable whenever I kill someone once per round.

Man time to start the counting...

Shorrarr - Rayror - Orr - Mortar

Heh, that's how I thought it was, but then your post made me think different! Nice! :D

EDIT: and everyone in 3rd should know who they're with-- Kell, Jakk, and Ric.

Yeah, things got a little fuzzy here. To put the issue to rest:

Kell - You're with me. In the event that I go down, you, as Lance Corporal, take my place in charge of element one, though Rayror takes over when the squad reunites. Still, if I DO happen to go down, you continue directing the squad until the entire squad is back together, and out of combat, as you were closest to me and would know best what I wanted to do with the situation.

Jakk - You're part of Rayror's fire element. You should have that LRB set up and be giving back what we're receiving.

Ric - You're part of the mortar team, though I dont think the thing needs three dedicated personnel. Thus you can either lead the team (using your attack roll for the mortar), or you can just keep tabs on them, and fire your blaster, your choice.

You tell me. You had time to set up anywhere from 20-80m from the pillbox. I was assuming 50m (i.e. in Kestrel's 2nd range increment), but it's your call.

Yes, I was using Ric's attack rolls for the mortar. And it technically can be fired by one person, but 3 is optimal: a loader, aimer, and commander. Ric is commander, TLP is adjusting the firing controls, and Roobis (not part of 3rd sqd-- he's the platoon comms-operator-- he's just helping you out) is loading. But let me know (IC) if you want that to change.

As far as the other positions, I had the same thing you posted.

To both of you (and everybody else): I'm trying to keep things as brief and abstract as possible... but I'll always be glad to give more detailed info whenever you need it.

P.S.: if any military guys out there know better terms for the various mortar crew positions, let me know. ;)

Not sure about motar team names. I'm in the NAVY, we use shells for our 5" and 16" guns... The 16" guns are fun to watch being fired, especially if all three in the turret are firing at once. Man talk about a BIG BANG!

Bocce, I'll have us set up 60m from Bunker #5 so that should help. That still should be in Kestrels second range increment of 60m. If not I'll have us move closer by one meter to get under the 2nd range increment. Now I wish she had a scope for her rifle, at least a x2 power scope. You know I think I'm going to have to talk with the El-Tee about this once we are done with this battle here on whatever planet we are on.

In real life we have a x2 scope on our M16 that we use while doing patrol on the piers or while underway. I think that this would be invaluable to our platoon. Tthe weight of a x2 scope is only 0.4kg and would cost the Alliance HQ 200 credits a pop. Considering we would be buying in bulk I think a discount of 10 credits per unit would be fair, since we would be buying about 29 or so scopes. Just some random thoughts since we are constanly in ranged combat. Makes sense to me... Anyone else?

EDIT
As a side note since Kestrel and I are prone, our range penalties are reduced by 2. So she should only have a -2 if we are in the third range increment, +/-0 if we are in the second or first range increment IIRC per the HG.

Well, I'm not a Navy vet, but I am a big fan of US Naval history... so I feel I must point out that there haven't been any 16" guns in active Navy service since... '92 (?) or so. Though I believe Iowa and Wisconsin are still in Reserve status...

Yes, it makes sense to me. And you do see a lot of scopes in the SW movies. Never could figure out why Solo has one, but it certainly looks cool...

With any luck at all, it's a big duracrete box-like thign with more slits than weapons and magnetic shielding on both inner and outer edges.

Or at least the slit Rayor's about to pop out of has a good view, and happens to be unoccupied.

"Big round thing with slits" probably describes it bests. I'd say it has a 330-degree fire arc, with the centerpoint perpendicular to the road.

The entire structure is duracrete, reinforced by a steel frame. It has no other shielding. And we're about to see what a heavy blaster cannon can do to steel-reinforced concrete...

It sits on a small rise; say, 4-6m of nearly vertical, rain-soaked cliff.

The gunners slits are very wide, and relatively low, maybe 60-80 cm high (22-30 inches).

The roof is fully covered in duracrete, with an overhang that shelters the gunner slits from above.

And, now, it has purple polka dots. These are, uh, ahem, some sort of aerial recognition/visual identification system. ;)

First of all, it was clear that the Browns were a better team. In the First Quarter they easily passed and ran their way to a quick touchdown. Their defense was solid, too. What happened (and I think the ESPN video picked this up) was a Pittsburgh receiver ran off field after a play, looking like he was running a pattern. He ended up in front of Coach Romeo. He passed a small parcel containing god only knows what.

Well, it was clear that the message worked. Whether it was a bundle of Benjamins or the right front paw of the Coach's cat we might never know. But he whispered to his receiver Northcutt who dropped two easy balls when it would have helped. He asked his men to get as many penalties as possible, throwing in two per play if necessary just to make sure one was seen. Oh, and how embarrassing that was when they caught TWO in one play!

But anyway, the Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce and I think the Communist Party are in cahoots on this and clearly needed the better team to stand down so that the hometown heroes could win one more.

I stand by this conspiracy theory. Prove me wrong! I have the footage!!

Feh. Should have watched "Rome."

nope, still can't figure it out...:?

Well, I, for one, have a legit reason:

Super Bowl XXX, where Neil O'donnel led the Cowboys to a Lombardi trophy and a nice set of rings.

Though my youth football team was the Cowboys...

Anyway, your team really hung in there tonight. A fine display of good coaching from Parcells, even if I don't care for the guy.

EDIT: And Dag-nabbit? Dont you mean McNabb it?:raised:

By the By the Cowboys came back and won. The Cowboys stun the Eagles with 2 TD's in 4 minutes, to win 21-20.

It appears to me that the Eagles Suck.....Even more now than when they had T.O.

As a Niners fan I ask you: who is T.O.? ;)

T.O. is the worst move any team can make. He's just a terrible influence on anyone.

Well, I kinda hope my team- the Browns-- picks up T.O.

He could, I dunno, carry the waterbottles out to the players, help out in the laundry, maybe sweep up afterwards... stuff like that. ;)

Anyways... I think we've got all the Turn 3 posts in. I'll try to get the resolution up in the very near future.

Note: to determine the actions of the 3rd Squad NPCs, I'll be making "opposed Leadership (Charisma) checks" for Cpl. Rayror and Sgt. Orr, with LCpl. Haarshi assisting Orr. Ought to be fun to see what happens... ;)

He would whine even then "I want to bring them power aid not gateraid!" or "I want 2 use T.O. brand detergent, i need more money."

Ya know, this whole leadership thing wouldn't be required if Rayror had a thign against (+15) Intimidating his troops without good reason...Orr can win the leadership roll automatically if Rayror can not get shot this round. (Oh, don't forget the FP Rayror spent, which should add to his leadership roll.)

I seriously don't remember disobeying a direct order...

C squad, listen up! We're giving Night and Day some cover so they can take this stingfly nest! Regular fire-teams, you guys know the drill! you guys know the drill! Drak, take Kupurr, Gath, and Ghennan to get set up a little ways up the road here, but don't pass Shorrar. I want that repeater set up yesterday! The rest of you, come with me! Wait for my signal to open fire! Now let's get ready to give 'em hell!"

*Sigh* Okay, here goes...

Okay, you're gonna have to take another crack at that sentence, as I can't even understand it, let alone respond to it.

Orr can win the leadership roll automatically if Rayror can not get shot this round.

That's metagaming, as well as totally ridiculous, and I, for one, won't agree to it.

(Oh, don't forget the FP Rayror spent, which should add to his leadership roll.)

As I see it, it should not, as Rayror spends the Force point just before he enters the bunker, at least a full round after leaving his men behind.

You didn't, Rayror did. First page of the IC, C squad is ordered to provide cover for Night and Day squads as they make their assault. In addition, Orr's latest command, though it had nothing to do with going or staying (it was to concentrate fire on a given bunker, which, incidentally, was also ignored) WAS, in fact, relayed to you, through Kell.

Oh well, no worries, I'm content to sort it out IC. :)

What's done is done, but I'll have to go look back through those messages...I coulda (but would never) sworn that Rayror never got that message; my mistake.

Also, as I recall at hoth FPs lasted the whole round and Rayror would spend one if (cause I'm a little shaky at not-school math) he could get to the bunker with said plan sometime that round. (Also, I wasn't sure of the game mechanics or how much movement '[running defensively]', which I see as the landbound version of flying defensively, would cost.

That's metagaming, as well as totally ridiculous, and I, for one, won't agree to it.

Must I smilie for every semi-obvious (mostly) joke? I guess so.

Okay, you're gonna have to take another crack at that sentence, as I can't even understand it, let alone respond to it.

Essentially it was a poorly worded: if he had Intimidated his troops, they'd either likely be still-petrified soldiers, or their respect for him would be enough for them to follow him wherever. Meh, just scratch that whole thing.

EDIT: ORDERS: On page 1, Orr hand signalled Rayror to grenade the enemies on his signal. On page 3 Orr instructed Kell to inform Rayror to kill a certain pair of gun stations. On I think 4, Kell told Rayror over the com to help out Squad 2.

Rayor has-grenaded his opponents, and the gunstations are dead. That means, AFAIK, Rayor is left with standing orders, of which he has none specific to this battle. As such, he took the initiative to launch an attack on the last remainign major threat to his (and Sqad 2's) forces.

All this leaves me confused as to when Rayror disobeyed orders, so if there oculd be a clarification?
