I won't have any of it until this coming friday, so I'm out for now on it.

I bought a starter, one booster and a load of commons off eBay. Basically I just want some ships for my RPG.

Plus's
- the detail is good.

Negatives
- even the so-called HUGE seem tiny when compaired the other WOTC huge sets.
- Nearly every ship is bent
- very expensive for tiny huge
- not much that hasn't already been done in the micro machines range

So that scores -3 :(

I so wanted to like this set. Yes I'm buying minis for RPG use, but generally I'm not impressed.

that's the only reason I buy them for also, so you aren't the only one to do that.

How about the rules? I know we can read them on the net, but how are they do play?
And what ships did you get?

I picked up a starter and 4 boosters last Saturday.

I'd have to agree with Sithspawn's assessment of the figures, regarding both detail and condition there of.

I ran a couple of mock battles using 200pts and 250pts (150 of each side were the Class 1 ships). Seems to run pretty good, and fairly quickly once I didn't have to constantly look up rules bits.

1st battle pretty much ended with 3 TIE Interceptors against the barely-damaged Mon Cal Star Defender.

2nd battle, the X-Wings did quite a number on the SSD thanks to proton torpedoes and some natural 20s.

The completist in me wants to get the entire set, as well as some more extras of certain ships (namely the various X-Wings), but they will most likely only get used for RPG purposes.

In my one booster I got the Commerce Guild Destroyer and the Virago.

Another gripe from an RPG perspective is that there are no Common or Uncommon stock light freighters. Meaning I'm going to have to fork out silly money for the Rare Outrider or Falcon.

From reading the WOTC boards it appears that the biggest gripe about gameplay is the whole 'no line of sight' issue. Class 1,2 & 3 ships can target anyone. This might be a good try are representing space combat, but it sucks as far as strategyis concerned :(

Still, I'm a sucker for Star Wars and have bought a few more singles

I'm a little disappointed with the distribution of the miniatures. I primarily buy these minis for use with the RPG (though I have been known to play in the occasional prerelease tournament, and my brother and I crack open the ol' battlemat on rainy days) so I was hoping to get a good assortment of minis like I do with the regular miniatures. Unfortunately, this set was nowhere near as good to me as Rebel Storm, or any of the other character minis.

First of all, out of 14 boosters and 2 starters, I only got 3 TIE Fighters and 1 TIE Fighter Ace. By comparison, I got 8 TIE Bombers and 4 TIE Interceptors. Uh, aren't TIE Fighters supposed to be the stormtroopers of space? Like Sithspawn alluded to, the lack of transports is disturbing. I "lucked out" and got 2 Outriders, and 4 Lambda-class shuttles, but I was disappointed there weren't more generic transports, like a stock YT-1300, maybe a stock Firespray, or even something more obscure like a YT-2000 or a Ghtroc freighter.

Not only did I get not enough ships that I did want out of the commons, I also got a lot of ships I didn't want. Why did I only get 4 TIE Fighters and then also get 5 Geonosian fighters? Or 6 Techno Union starfighters? By the same token, I only ended up with about 6 droid starfighters, but about the same number of Scarabs. Er? Shouldn't the iconic cannon fodder ships be more common than the lame and obscure ones? Also, what the heck is with the Sith Infiltrator being an uncommon? I got 5 of the freakin' things!

I was also a bit disappointed with my selection of Huge minis. I got 2 Star Destroyers and 2 Mon Calamari cruisers, which is solid. I also got 2 Trade Federation battleships and a droid control ship, which was a bit overkill on flying saucers. The one ship I really wanted out of the whole set, the Interdictor cruiser, never showed up for me. :(

If I was a minis player, I'd probably be more happy. I got both versions of the Slave I, a Virago, duplicates of Palpatine's Shuttle and the Outrider, both Anakin Skywalker's and Obi-Wan's Jedi Interceptors, Luke Skywalker's X-Wing, among others. I'm just a little disappointed from and RPG standpoint.

If anyone got an extra Interdictor cruiser they want to trade, let me know. I've got duplicates of Palpatine's Shuttle and the Outrider, as I said, and quite a few duplicate uncommons.

well I still haven't bought my first set, but is it true that these things are equal to the size of the old micromachines?

It is a shame if there aren't more freighters...and no escort carriers? Carracks? Strike cruisers?

Is it true that there really are no plans to expand the game? That really would be a shame :(

...though I must admit I'm tempted to order a few packs anyway. :D

well if these things are the same size as the micromachines, than I'm set for Falcons, lol. I've got tons of the old Micro machines here, plus other Star Wars things here, including the old Plastic model playsets from Hoth. Used to have a cataloged list of the micromachines that I have, but since I was able to find more at rummage sales, yard sales, flea market booths, etc. It would take forever to do so again. However whenever I feel the need to buy some miniatures, I go to the local bookshop and buy out their stock of them, lol.

Just went to the bookstore, and apparently there was a problem on the line and a couple of the molds are now broken. Now shipments are delayed to until the line catches up. It has to do with the Starter sets from what I was told, You can still get the boosters, but the molds for the starters were damaged and have to be recast.

Ugh, had to drive through a Snow storm to pick up somethings and do banking before heading up to the bookstore to find this out.

i bought 2 cases and 1 starter and i am 8 pieces away from a complete set.
pieces left to get are...........................
2/60 mon calamari cruiser home one
5/60 republic assault ship
7/60 millenium falcon
8/60 outrider
12/60 tantive IV
17/60 arc-170 starfighter
38/60 trade federation droid control ship
40/60 palpatines shuttle
only double i have gotten of a specific characters vehicle was 41/60 sith infiltrator.
i was very pleased with what i got knowing the fact that it would be hard to get a complete set out of 2 cases and 1 starter.
i am currently selling the sith infiltrator on ebay if anyone is interested in bidding.
my sellers name is mrroboto29682002:isd:

the front of my Imperial Star Destroyer is bent up. Any ideas on fixing that or is that it?

I got 1 tie fighter out of a starter and 3 boosters. kinda lame

They're made of the same vinyl-stuff as the figure minis, right? If so, hold it in very hot water (but not boiling) for a couple minutes, then gently bend it back into shape. Hold it in the correct position until it cools. Repeat a few times if necessary. Just be careful not to get it too warm, and risk permanently distorting it.

Or... leave it bent up, and eventually Curtis Saxton-- sorry, Dr. Curtis Saxton-- will realize that it's a rare variant Star Destroyer design, and add an ISD Sub-Class (http://www.theforce.net/swtc/isd.html#features) to his "Technical Commentaries." ;)

The common TIE Fighter is proving to be the Ultra-Rare of this set. I guess everyone wants lots of them so no one is selling them in quantity, just the odd single on eBay :(

Ah eBay...

So, I've heard/read a lot of chatter on various newsgroups that most people are reasonably pleased with the models but are looking for better rules. t seems that Babylon 5: A Call t Arms by Mongoose is a popular choice as is Full Thrust.

I realize some here have already expressed similarly so what is it about the actual rules that Hasbro should have done differently?

After a little over two years of swearing to never buy a Star Wars Miniatures set, I've finally broken my promise. I bought a booster pack of the Starship Battles set and I feel relatively good about it.

I've yet to play a game against myself with the meager contents of the pack, but I have a feeling that I'll enjoy it when I do. I managed to pull a TF droid control ship, Jango's Slave I, Techno Union starfighter, a Gallofree transport, a Tie Interceptor and an Ace (now where were the red stripes of the 181st placed...), and a Y-wing from the booster.

Looks like you got a good booster pack there Hayabusa.

I've had my minis come now that ordered as singles. I'm not after every mini with this set, so singles is the wat to go for me. And I must admit that now I have more Starships I'm really wanting to play a game.

I know I have many faults with this set, but eye to detail is certainly one of the plus's.

yeah i was hoping to get some good pieces from my first case and i was pretty impressed pulling the 2 slave 1's from 1 case.
saving more money now to buy the ones i need to finish the set off ebay and possibly buy some more tie's,x-wing's,b-wing's,a-wing's and more of the different starfighter's.

I bought a Starter Pack yesterday and got the following aside from the obvious two

Rebel Cruiser
A-Wing Starfighter Ace
Naboo Starfighter
Y-Wing Starfighter
Imperial Shuttle
Scarab Droid Starfighter
TIE Interceptor
Vulture Droid Starfighter

I only have two issues with the set that branches into others, I hate the scaling, man does it suck. How bout making the starfighters squadrons rather than singles.

I dont even play the game, nor do I want them for the RPG, I just want some cool little ships. Which leads to my second issue. I don't want clone wars era ships! Why oh why did they lump them together, I dont want prequels, I just want galactic civil war!

Why couldn't they have just done it like they do all older sets, split by era.

Sithspit.

I'm sure I posted a reply in here? Oh well.

Anyway, I played a SSB game for the first time last night.

Great fun. Only a small 150pt squad.
The game only lasted four rounds, me destroyed my opponents MC80 in the frist round.

Strategy seems limited. There should be some form of LOS or maybe force you to attack adjacent non-fighters. That would force movement.

Fun game, looking forward to playing it again though.

From what I've seen from here, I think I'll stick with my multitude of micromachines.
