Celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars saga with this collection of miniatures inspired by the original Star Wars film. From the landmark films to the computer games and the novels, this set pits the Rebellion against the Empire in battles to decide the fate of the galaxy.

I don't know that one way or another. Sounds about right to me though.

According to the listing on CoolStuffInc, the expected release date is May 23rd.

So probably somewheres in or around there.

And I've already got my pre-order in for three cases :hutt:

And, just in case anyone missed it, some Spanish distributors erred and shipped their products.

As a result, a lot more stats and even the entire setlist are known if you know where to look ...

Saw quite a bit of those on eBay -- after they closed at pretty dirt cheap prices too.

Qta (means questions to all):

Some oppinion to the diffrent base (square vs round)?

Also Han looks a little bit like a paintshop to it by my daugther, if she were three old.....

If the two miniatures displayed in the preview are any indication of the overall quality of this set, I will not be purchasing any. I prefer GM Sarli Games, anyway; no randomization, good prices. :D

Trandoshan Merc and Force Spirit Ben.

Seems all the concerns about Force Spirit Ben being a game breaker were for nothing. He looks pretty fragile (opponent either has to spend a Force Point and Ben goes poof on a failed save or whack his linked character).

de nada. I was here posting the link to the SECR preview, so I figured I might as well drop this link as well.

And I agree on the sculpt for the Trandoshan. It'll be nice to have more than a couple Trandoshan thugs show up (since so far the only Trandos have been different versions of Bossk).

Sithspawn
20 April 2007, 09:25 AM
The Trandoshan is nice, shame he has Mercenary, that will limit his usefulness.

Obi-Wan, nice, but I'll have to wait for all the details on his abilitiy.

Han is good, stats wise, but lets hope the real thing is better than that pic.

Death Star Trooper, just the RS Duro stats aren't they? Never mind, I've been wanting some of these guys for a while.

So... would it be bad form to put the leaked Set List up here? Mods?

Looks good. I'm glad to see we're finally getting another Mara Jade, who happens to be my favorite char. :D I'm not sure we need another Jabba or Boba Fett, but it'll be nice to see more Ithorians. As for my fears about quality, preview two allayed those. I'm actually looking forward to this set now.

Sithspawn
21 April 2007, 12:08 AM
As Stratos said, you can see the pics on Spanish eBay, or head over to BaseContact where they have lots of scans of the cards.

Jabba the Hutt looks great and has decent stats.
Boba Fett I really like, a Boba that isn't too powerful, I'll use him a lot.
Ithorian Commnader, this guy's CE is awesome for your Fringe grunts.
Wicket, Traps is another great ability. Yay to more Ewoks! B)

I just wish they would come up with a few different "main characters" in a set, instead of the same old ones with just different stats for each new series.

But that's just me.

I totally agree but this is the long established Lucasfilm/Hasbro theory that boys and girls entering the fandom at all times want the core characters because they can "relate" to them since they receive so much screen time.

I'm not surprised there is a new Mara Jade since she's huge in the Expanded Universe... but I am surprised on the new Quinlan and Aurra Sing... since they both only have the smallest of screen time and, while popular, are minor EU characters in the grand scheme of things.

Sithspawn
26 April 2007, 09:15 AM
Quinlan Vos & Aurra sing were indeed odd choices.

Surely Aayla Secura would have been a better choice opposite Sing, and Sora Bulq opposite Vos?

As for multiple of the same main characters, and repeats of so many grunts, is also a tad annoying. This is the anniversary set so I'm guessing Lusacfilm had a fair bit of input. On that score I'm happy with this set, but hope for more variety, and Jar Jar Binks, in the sets to come. B)

Force Adept and Stormie w/ Rocket Butt :D

I'm not all that impressed. Anyone have any ideas where in the EU the rocket butt sled is from?! Seems weird to me to have such an obscure vehicle in the new anniversary set. They should've made some of the mini-rigs from the ESB toy era!!

Sithspawn
27 April 2007, 01:56 AM
The Repulsor-sled is from the Art of Star Wars book and based on the pre-production concept artwork by Ralph McQuarie.

As for the minis, I quite like them. The Sled is better than the Speerder Bike, a slightly boosted Swoop Bike, and with an 18 defense that's pretty good.

The Force Adept is a nice piece. Okay, not broken in any way, but will be a nice filler and useful for RPG.

Stratos
27 April 2007, 02:55 AM
Thanks Sithspawn. McQuarie is certainly getting a lot of love from Lucasfilm/Hasbro these days. New action figures and minis based on his designs from over 30 years ago. Not bad. Kudos.

It's still a weird choice to me in a set of 60 to make stuff not actually seen on the screen but it's a cool addition to the overall collection.

Officially we see his character die in ROTS during Order 66, on Kashyykk. I've only seen the movie once (because I hated it) but I think it's just after Aayla Secura gets cut down. I'm pretty sure it's in the novelization as well and definitely in the graphic novel.

Jan Duursema took inspiration for his character from a guy sitting in the shadows of Mos Espa during TPM so unofficially that has been creditted as Quinlan, the spy.

Sithspawn
27 April 2007, 02:13 PM
Yes I believe there is a character that is supposed to be Quinlan Vos in TPM. But his death isn't seen in ROTS, that scene was written but was never filmed IIRC. So technically, Quinlan Vos could still be alive.

And the new mini, despite being an odd choice for A&E, is a big improvement on the CS one.

Stats are one thing. Yet another sculpt/mini in general - when so many other characters haven't been made at all - is another.

Since I don't play "pro" in official circuits, more often than not, if I wanted to play the new Wookiee (for example) I'll be using older minis with newer stats in my homebrew games.

These are great minis IMHO. Both look good.

Tarkin is a favourite character and his CE is very good.

And I love wookiees, and this one is great. I'm certainly looking at putting together a Wookiee Republic squad with Tarful & Commander Gree B)

Sweet new Vong! Yay!

Sithspawn
10 May 2007, 04:58 PM
The Vong Advance Agent is a welcome addition to the poorly supported Faction. And a great sculpt too.

Rebel Commando's don't have a great Ataack, so it will be interesting to see how Super-Stealth plays out with them.

I'm still very much looking forward to the new set B)

For the Vong, I agree with that sentiment.

But since I've played Stealth-heavy squads in the past, I'm very interested in the RC Strike leader, as he not only provides the Super-Stealth but enhances Grenades as well, which can be helpful against high HP targets.

Admiral Zaarin

Yeah, if I actually played the miniatures game--which I don't; I just collect them and use them for roleplay--then the commando leader would have more appeal to me.

Now these are two fine looking minis!

But when did Mara get a Windu-purple saber? And why is still still wearing her Thrawn-trilogy outfit in the NJO? None-the-less... I love it!

Admiral Zaarin

I believe Mara constructed a purple lightsaber after she lost the one Luke gave her.

Anyway, Mara Jade is by far my favorite character, so I am very excited to see another version of her. :D

I think she's had the purple saber for a while in the EU, long before Lucas came down with the "only blue and green for Jedi, unless your initials are either SLJ or BMF." EU there are Jedi with every color of the rainbow for 'saber blades.

As for her outfit, that's the one she's most commonly depicted in on book covers, so it makes since that's what they'd use for the mini.

Admiral Zaarin
18 May 2007, 12:42 PM
Personally, I only enforce the "green/blue only" in the RotE era, since canonically that seems to be the only period in which other colors are not available. Luke found other sources and learned how to make Sith-esque synthetic crystals, and same for earlier Jedi.

Probably because that was the way she was depicted in the Decipher Card Game, on which her pose is loosely based. :)

While I'm not a fan of Mara I'm glad the NR have got a strong character that is sure to appear in every NR squad.

The Death Star Gunner is also a great piece. doesn't even need to hit to do damage!

Definitely. In the actual miniatures game, which I don't play, I have a hard time imagining he'd be useful, but the roleplaying possibilities are huge. I have several players running small players and the only small mini I have ATM is the Ugnaught Demolitionist from CotF.

I haven't seen it in any printed material or online at wizards.com BUT several key people at Alliance and ACD distributors (the people resonsible for getting them into our hands) say "YES".

This seems to make the latest advertisement...
"This Edition is Limited. The Game is Not." refer to the "30th Anniversary-ness" of the square, billboard bases.

All rumors confirm the second printing will be traditional round.
