I'm putting together a list of medals (complete with pictures of the ribons) for the Alliance during the Rebellion era. I have loads of pictures taken from real medals from around the world (http://www.medals.org.uk/) but need ideas for medal awards.

I have plenty of Ideas for the medals, service length in different parts of the alliance, civillian awards, awards for heroism, badges of merit etc etc. but as you know (or may not know), a large proportion of medals will come from campaigns. So I'm asking you to list as many combat actions the Rebel alliance has been in (EU or otherwise). The only ones that could name were the Yavin, Hoth, Endor etc etc. If you could also give a rough time period as well (my capaign is between Episode 4 and 5 at the moment) just so my NPC's don't start turning up with with medallions for things that haven't happened yet.

Whats in it for you? Well a copy of it when its finished of course. Any engagement or operation you can think of that the alliance has performed, anything at all...

They had some medals in the old X Wing game. You got one for missions completed, and that's all I know.

Rules of Engagement: The Rebel Specforces Handbook mentioned five types of medals/decorations.

The Redbird, awarded to all branches of the Alliance military, is a small red pin of the Alliance symbol awarded for being injured in the line of duty.

The Superior Service Medal, awarded for ongoing excellence in the line of duty. This is a simple metal disc with an Alliance symbol embossed on it, suspended from a blue and red ribbon.

The Crescent of Valor. For brave and valorous conduct under fire, the Crescent of Valor is a crescent embossed on a field of stars, suspended from a blue ribbon.

The Cross Crosslet. For extraordinary valor, going far beyond the call of duty, the Cross Crosslet is a gold cross on a platinum background. This award is awarded posthumously in 45 percent of cases.

The Coruscant Star of Valor. In the period following the Battle of Endor, the New Republic created this award, the highest it bestows on military personnel. It is intended to reflect the bravery of the soldiers and pilots who seized Coruscant from the Empire.

These three are personal creations for my own campaigns...

The LifeStar given to all who survived the Battle of Endor. A seven-pointed platinum star with a tiny ruby at each point suspended from a royal purple ribbon.

The Survivor's Medallion. When the New Republic was officially declared, this honor was bestowed upon all Alliance soldiers (not fringers who occasionally aided the Alliance) with more than ten years service experience. Meant to honor those lucky few who survived more than ten years of actively warring against the Empire. This is a tiny golden kite shield with a cross of sapphires on the front suspended from a silver and white ribbon.

The Black Omega Pin. Awarded for... no one but the recipients know. All Black Omega pins are awarded for operations that officially never happened. 85% are awarded posthumously. Paradoxically these are white Omega (as in the Greek letter) symbols on a black disc.

Check this thread (from way back in August of 2000) for more ideas: http://holonet.swrpgnetwork.com/showthread.php?threadid=334&highlight=medals

Thanks, that helps me alot, but I'm still looking for engagements that the alliance has been involved in ('cause I'm making lots of my own up), for eaxample in the RA Sourcebook there is that insert on that battle thing where they withdrew and shafted the Empire, does anyone know of any other battles from books, WEG adventures, d20 adventures anything at all.

In the Imperial Sourcebook (2nd Ed) there is mention of the Battle of Ton-Falk. It is under the capsule for the Escort Frigate.

I am still looking for any more, so if I find some I will let you know.

Some battles I've heard from Decipher SWCCG:

Derra IV
Kaassshyk (huh spelling?)
Ralltiir subjugation
Mon Calamari

That's all i can remember for the moment.

According to Rebel Dawn (by A. C. Crispin - pg 375-381 pb), the "Red Hand Squadron" fought a battle on the planet Toprawa.

It was an intelligence operation that captured the plans for the "latest Imperial secret weapon" and then transmitted them to a rebel courier ship -- a Corellian corvette... Obviously, we're led to believe this is how the Rebels gained the Death Star plans before ANH (though I think other sources suggest other methods).

All operatives on the mission died, but I have no doubt the Rebel Alliance would have conferred on them a very special posthumous medal.

<p align=justify>Another example for posthumous honour can be found during the <i>Bakura Incident</i>. As you can remember the Alliance Cruiser Carrier <i>Flurry</i> was destroyed by the Imperial Carrack Cruiser <i>Dominant</i>. All hands were lost.

But they all were posthumously decorated for their heroic sacrifice. They probably received the same medal as the operations team of the <i>Red Hand Squadron</i>, mentioned by <b>Chris Curtis</b>.</p>

X-Wing Alliance had several awards--

Civilian Battle Award--for those civilians who willingly aided the Alliance and showed great courage

Mantooine Medallion

Star of Alderaan

Kalidor Crescent--This medal can have several pins added to it. Among them are, in increasing order, the:
Bronze Cluster, Silver Talon, Silver Scimitar, Golden Wings, and Diamond Eyes

There were a few others, but I remember those best

I may have asked this in another thread a while ago but...anyone got a list of Imperial medals?

BrianDavion

the Imperial and rebel awards can be found in TIE fighter and X-wing PC games..

the only imperial award I recall off the top of my head is "The Emperor's will" or something

the Rebels have the Mantooine Medallion, the Corellan Cross and the Star of Alderaan

and of course the famous Kalodor crescant.

all these medals I mentioned have their pictures depicted and you should be able to find em easily eneugh without having to apply a picture of the Victoria cross or something :)

Well you could have campaign ribbons (color coded to correspond to which region they earned it in).

BrianDavion
12 January 2002, 05:38 PM
heck I think there is info in the rogue squadron novel regarding a campaign ribbion
I think endor was red or something and had a black dot in the middle if you survived the "death star run"

Are the medals presented here only good for the Rebellion era, or would the New Republic use the same medals in the New Jedi Order?

BrianDavion
14 January 2002, 10:25 AM
the x-wing novel series suggests that at the very elast the Kalidor crescant was kept.. odds are they have the same awards.. mind you some aren't going to be issued any more (an endor service medel you WON'T be able to win against the vong:)

try scrounging through the internet, I'm sure that some sight has screen shots of all the medels...

if you can't find it, you can proably pick up the TIE fighter collectors edition CD ROM for win 98 fairly inexpensivly these days

I think there was a medal for the Katana fleet skrimish (NR)
I'm also sure there was a post-humorus medals awarded for the ISD Premptory (all abord were killed) (Emp.)

In the comic "In The Empire's Service", depicting the battle of Brentaal IV, Admiral Lon Isoto awards a medal to the members of the 181st, specially crafted to memorialize the Battle of Brentaal IV... I can't remember its name. Other suitably pompous Admirals probably do the same after their battles.

As noted, the Kalidor Crescent is awarded to New Republic fighters who demonstrate a combination of bravery and piloting skill. Kell Tainer received the award in the book Wraith Squadron.

Other battles and campaigns are usually commemorated with patches rather than medals... Though I think those who survived a Death Star run got a medal.

Speaking of Imperial medals, I remebered having seen two pics in my RPG books. I searched them again, and scanned them here. They both show some medals, but it's not known what they are for or why they earned them. So feel free to create your own information for these medals. :)

<center><img src="http://www.hochadmiral.de/pics/nereus.jpg"></center>

<b>Imperial Governor Wilek Nereus</b>
You all know him from <i>The Truce at Bakura</i>. The pic is from the corresponding WEG sourcebook. In his description it says: "... Nereus always wore a custom tailored, non-regulation uniform, adorned with a great deal of braiding and piping. The uniform jacket was custom-tailored to provide an illusion of tapered slimness from his shoulders to his rather ample midsection."

<center><img src="http://www.hochadmiral.de/pics/hul.jpg"></center>

<b>General Afren Hul</b>
He appears in the <i>Planets Collection (WEG)</i>. Although being an Army general he currently serves as military governor of Derilyn (Elrood Sector). The mdeals he wears are probably due to his actions in ground battles as he is known to be a specialist in firefights, ambushes and guerillia wars.

I'll let you know when I find more. :)

I have compiled a short list of medals and campaign ribbons for my players. The file I have them in is too large to post, but if anyone is interested drop me a line and I will e-mail them.
They are as follows:
Eye of Ithor: For gallantry displayed by civilians during conflict
Covert Operations Pin: For gallantry during covert missions
Dantooine Sphere: For bravery in combat
Corellian Cross: For extreme gallantry in combat
Kalido Sunset: For successful completion of Alliance training
Wound Badge: for wounds received in combat
Alliance Presidential Citation: Awarded by Mon Mothma for acts of charity in service of the alliance.
Chandrillan Starburst: highest award for bravery in combat
Star Medal: For engaging in starfighter combat
I also have several campaign and memorial ribbons, most of them are self explanitory by the names:
Alderaan Memorial Ribbon: for Alderaanian survivors
Declaration of Rebellion ribbon: commemorating the declaration of rebellion
A New Hope Ribbon: for veterans of the Battle of Yavin

Hope this is helpful.

To take screen shots, press Alt+Print Screen. This copies the image on the screen, and you can then paste it into a bitmap/jpeg file.

Anyone know of an easier way to do it? :?

Chris Curtis

> Anyone know of an easier way to do it?

Sure do. The ALT-PrintScreen method works much of the time and will capture a copy of the currently active window or dialog box (not the whole screen). However, it won't work within some programs -- including many games.

I would instead suggest either using the built-in screen capture capabilities of many image programs (I've used Paint Shop Pro for it in the past), or using a specialized program for doing the captures.

Probably the most recognized of those is SnagIt. You can find the website at ( http://www.snagit.com/ ). There is a free trial available for those who don't want to purchase it outright. I've used an older version before and it worked wonderfully.

Ok, all finished (chucked in some pay and rank things as well). I don't have any space to load it onto so if someone can give me their e-mail I'll send it to you and you could put it on? Cheers,

Send the stuff to me and I will post it for you. You have my e-mail.

Ok, Troy had some trouble trying to do it so if anyone has space on a website so it can be linked, failing that just send me your e-mail and i'll send it to you. It would make my life easier if someone could put it on the net though...

Chris Curtis

Sure, I should be able to host the pics for you. Just go ahead and send them to me ( servais@starwars-rpg.net ) and I'll let you know when they're ready.

Okay, I finally received the files from Lord Byss. I've left them in Word format (which is what they were presented to me in) since it's just a lot easier that way. If I suddenly find myself with an over-abundance of free time (not likely) then I might convert them to HTML.

Rebel Alliance Medals (http://starwars-rpg.net/servais/holonet/RAmedals.doc) (Word, 132k)

Ranks and Pay (http://starwars-rpg.net/servais/holonet/Ranks_Pay.doc) (Word, 137k)

Imperial Calendar (http://starwars-rpg.net/servais/holonet/Calendar.doc) (Word, 25k)

Note: Let me remind everyone that these are just Lord Byss's interpretations and are by no means canon/official. They are, however, well done and thought through.

Hah!
Maybe this is a post worth...

Here (http://www.starwarsclub.org/republic/specforces/awards.php) is the link. So bocce what do you say? Is this what you were searching for?
It's for the New Republic era...

We had an award called the Yavin Cross, which was given as the highest decoration in the Alliance. I based it on the Victoria Cross, each example of which is made from the metal of a cannon captured during the Crimean War.

Well, the Yavin cross is actually made from melted down remains of the first Death Star. :D

That's very cool, Aldaron.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm finding a lot of info on the web concerning SW military awards, but a lot of it is loosely organized, campaign-specific, vague, or just confusing. So I'm getting together a list of my own...

I'll try to get in it a presentable format, and post it here-- sometime in the near future.

Anything else anybody has is welcome.
