View Full Version : Laundry

Okay, late night, thinking about weird things. On the long hyperspace trips, you would need to do laundry right? So how? On the bigger ships, do you have a laundry room? On smaller ships, do you just wear dirty clothes?

I need sleep.

Yeah I've thought about this a bit too. I like to think that starfighters aren't really used for long-distance travel much and so if you're going to fly across the Galaxy you're going to simmer in your suit till you reach a spaceport.

Most RPG groups fly around in stock freighter-like ships and I like to think that these ships are usually equipped with but a bathroom/head. It only makes sense that some small washing machine-dryer unit would be available too. Probably does it real fast, too. :D

And if you're talking about a Star Destroyer, they probably have lots of laundry stations. Whether those are run by droids or humans or whatever is up to you. But now that you mention it, I think the laundy room of a Star Destroyer would be a great place to pass through on a Rebels-against-the-Empire adventure.

I would assume that on capital ships would have a laundry room. Mabye if it's cruise ship or mabye a mitiary ship [only for officers though] there is actully a dry cleaning service. Other wise, frighters proably habe some washer hidden some where in the ship. If not just was your stuff in the sink. Starfighters, normally u don't stay in them very long anyway...

Many freighters have sonic washers for clothes. Just hang them on specially made hangars and hang them in the sonic wash closet and zap. Roughly a minute to get the dirt out, plus a fresh smell is applied by the sonic closet.

Fighters do not have these.

Cap ships, planets, star ports, etc do.

Cost is 15 creds per outfit (shirt, pants, socks, T-shirt, knickers, jacket).

Yoda "Afraid are you?"
Anakin "I don't think so?"
Yoda "Smell you we can?"
Mace "Be mindful of your smell."
Yoda "Refresher not working on Royal starship?"
Anakin "What's that that got to do with anything?"
Yoda "Everything. To the Dark Side your smell leads. To anger, to hate. To ponging big time."
Anakin "I'm not afraid."
Yoda "Deepest commitment a Jedi must have. Use the washroom he must."
:p :D :p

Sithspawn, that is such a groaner! :p ;)

Anyway, I'll throw in with Fred. I've read about the sonic showers before, so it seems a likely conclusion that clothes would be done in a similar fashion. If its only the size of a closet, then they'll be able to fit on any ship that isn't a starfighter.

We have real problems in our games, because I'm the only player with more than one set of clothes. When everyone is cleaning their clothes, I just go to my quaters and lock the door! :D

Hmm, on clothing in general, I tend to assume that players have about three sets of generic clothing. That much you can pack in a sack without worrying. Specialised clothing gets written to the equipment list, Alliance uniforms, armour etc. Oh, and I have a house rule, black leather trench coats always cost 10,000 more that is available to the party.

As for cleaning, the issues never actually come up in game, I assume that one merely steps in the sonic 'fresher fully clothed. Why not? Gets you clean, gets your clothing clean, ta da,,,

We did have one time when the question of 'what do you sleep in?' came up, shortly afterwards the character in question responded to a red alert by racing to the bridge, wearing his sleeping gear ie, nothing at all,,,,

'what do you sleep in?
One adventure I was on we were asleep in an Inn (Medieval world). We were awoke by the sound of crashing. So Lexon Lexgar, ex-merc and all round tough guy, meandered into the next room wearing nothing but his boxers to find one of his team-mates having a mud hole stomped in hi a$$! Lexon calmly sighed. He went back to his room an got dressed, full Charon Battle suit an' all.
"I really need some help here!"
"Hang on, I'm just just putting my boots on."
"Could you HURRY!"
"Okay, okay."
Lexon Lexgar strolled nonchalantly into his comrades room where the afoermentioned monster clobbed the guy leaving him reeling on the floor. Lexon Lexgar looked at the beast which was three times his size. "Right." Then Lexon hit the thing so hard it knocked it through the wall onto the street two floors below. Lexon proceeded to jump after the creature and educate it as to why he didn't like being woken and having to investigate wearing just his boxers. Tough guy as Lexon is, he's a rather modest and shy man really.

Another incident involves running down castle secret corridors in the buff swinging one's chopper, errr... axe. :D

Back to the subject at hand. I also only tend to write special clothes on a characters sheet. This includes formal clothes. One time my PC Tarrant Ford just had to go shopping after a creature had ruined his new suit. The best suit on offer was 1000 credits. Tarrant told the go forget it. He wasn't going to buy any cheap rubbish. Hey, a guy has to have style, if you smell what I'm cookin :raised:
Going for a wash, or to the toilet, is something that very rarely is addressed in our game. Except with Jaskin the Jawa, he doesn't wash.

We had a rather nasty situation with this once. The heroes had to travel across the galaxy and it was deemed this would take about a month. Unfortunately on the way back , the ship had been damaged, so all but the cock-pit was depressuried. As the GM (Ronin) ruled that we could not stop on the way back, the three characters had to spend this entire time with each other. In the cockpit!:o

Rumours were rampamt back at the base when the players returned as to what they had used as a toilet...8o

Some of these stories are going to make me get more sleep so I stop asking these questions.

You tyrant!! Black Leather trenchcoats are practically required for all Charectors with
(1). Automatic weapons (moreso if there is one in each hand)
(2). Acrobatic ability used in combat
(3). Mirrored Shades
Haven't movies taught you anything?;)

Ah, but Superdog, that's just it, I require my players to have their own sense of cool, not throwaway Hollywood Cliches,,,

It's surprising how many players are instantly totally stumped on what their characters will wear when you take the BLT away from them,,,
