After seeing the ridiculous movie Space Truckers I have come up with some new things for Star Wars.

Black Rock: Black Rock is a anomaly in space travel. Rocks as black as night with an almost mirror like quality to their surface, which makes them virtually undetectable during space flights as they tumble through space tyhey reflect the lights of stars and space making them camoflauged. Even Hyperdrive sensors have a hard time detecting these obstacles before they collide with a ship during hyperspace transport killing all aboard and destroying the ship. They are only encountered near or in the unexplored regions of the galaxy but it is believe that some vicsious pirate organizations have grappled several small to medium sized Black Rocks and brought them within known space routes for major transporting companies. It is believe that Black Rock come from several large palnets that were destroyed in some unknown cataclysmic event in the galaxy which shattered the planets spreading there Black Rocked crust out over space.

D6
Black Rock: Black Rock is an anomaly in space travel that is a threat to all spacers and transportation companies. Detecting Black Rock with the naked eyes is a Heroic difficulty and line of sight is limited to 50 metres. Sensors fair slightly better than eyes but are at Very Difficult difficulty to detect Blac Rock out to SU 12. Damage Black Rock causes is based on size.

Tiny Black Rock 2D Figher scale
Small Black Rock 3D Fighter scale
Medium Black Rock 3D Capital
Large 4D Black Rock Capital
Very Large 8D Capital
Super Large 3D Death Star

D20???
Black Rock: Black Rock is an anomaly in space travel that is a threat to all spacers and transportation companies. Detecting Black Rock with the naked eyes is a 30 DC and line of sight is limited to Short Range. Sensors fair slightly better than eyes but are at 25DC to detect Blac Rock out to Medium Range. Damage Black Rock causes is based on size.

Tiny Black Rock 4D10x2 Figher scale
Small Black Rock 6D10x2 Fighter scale
Medium Black Rock 4D10x2 Capital
Large Black Rock 6D10x2 Capital
Very Large 5D10x4 Capital
Super Large 10D10x5 Capital

As far as D20 goes modify as need since I only have a passing knowledge of the mechanics of the system.

This sort of thing could make an excellent MacGuffin for an adventure... the party's ship runs into some black rock and crash lands / gets stranded / etc. Not to mention it could make an otherwise mundane piece of space combat more interesting.

One thing that might be interesting to add is giving black rock some commercial value... such as an industrial or construction material, or for use in making blasters / armor / the like. That way you could have something out there that is both heavily sought-after and difficult / dangerous to retrieve.

Just some thoughts.

If this Black Rock stuff is so difficult to detect, how about a Black Rock coating to armour? This might make the armour harder to detect.
How about it: Defel armour B) .
