View Full Version : Gold in Star Wars (and other valuables)

[More questions, I know, I'm full of them!]

Is gold worth relatively the same in the Star Wars Universe as it is in Real Life? I need to figure out how many credits a chest full of gold ingots is worth for my campaign.

(let's just say it might not all arrive at it's destination!)

What about other precious metals? Gems?

Or... to rephrase... how do you give treasure?!?

I haven't given rewards in the form of gems or precious metals. I usually used credits. Or in one adventure, I had the party find a small, ugly statue made of stone that they all thought was a piece of junk until I had an NPC with many ranks in Knowledge (Alien species) recognize it as a stolen heirloom of an alien monarchy. I like to give quirks to my monetary rewards.:)
I'm not at all sure how gold would be valued in the StarWars universe, because its value would depend on the rarity of the stuff.

Gold is still worth quite a bit in the SWU, at least according to various EU sources.

I don't have it with my right now, but I know the WEG sourcebook Pirates and Privateers has a useful chart that lists a number of minerals/substances and their worth for X mass (for instance 1000 credits/kg).

I'll try and remember to look it up when I get home this evening.

Yes, Gold would be a rare metal, too, in the Star Wars Galaxy. As the phsics are the same than those of our own Galaxy, this implies that also the nature of the matter is similar to ours. This means that there are the same rare metals than in our own Galaxy. They are the metals which only are present to a very low degree in the nature of planets, and all materials. Examples are Gold, Silver, Platinum, Palladium, Iridium, Rhodium, Osmium and Ruthenium. :)

Here are two tables that are found in WEG's Pirates and Privateers supplement (pages 37 and 38, respectively).

One thing that P&P manages to verlook is mentioned in GG9; stabilsed ytterbium. AKA 'The Yellow Stuff'. High value yellowish metal.

I suspect this was an attempt to create the Star Wars equivilant of 'gold pressed latinum'. It's been pretty much overlooked since then, AFAIK.
