I believe that Jacen has cut himself off from the Force because he thinks that is the only way for him not to fall to the Dark Side.

Great, I can hear Kyle's voice right now saying that all well too familiar line "Hey! you killed Kenny! (or Anakin) ... You *******!!!!"

Somehow that is how I picture one of the last moments of a jedi just before turning into the darkside ...

I'm guessing that is exactly why Jacen would further refrain from using the force more now than ever... just too much emotions to feel and equally enough anger & resentment too... And to be honest, who wouldn't feel such things when ya start losing close friends and family around you?

But, If Jacen bugs out and totally stowes his force abilities... I seriously think he's gonna get into a situation he can't get out of... And just perhaps, he'll have to call on them to save himself and ending up dipping into the darkside because of it...

btw, i havn't read Star by Star or Dark Journey ... but it don't take much to figure out where things are heading...

IMO i think that the vong have begun shaping him to use on the jedi and if they capture Jaina.

I think he has cut himself off from the Force in order to protect his family and the other Jedi. If they thought he was enduring horrible torture, they might put themselves at risk by mounting a rescue attempt. He's attempting to be selfless.

If they were actually going to kill off Jacen, I think it would merit a little more than a passing mention in a book about Jaina.

the NJO sourcebook makes it very clear they are likely going to try and shape him, I think he may have cut off his access to the force to stop the Vong from having such a dangerous weapon...

The Vong are probably gonna shape him like they tried to do to tahiri. Then they'll bring him back to kill Jaina.

I think they are going to shape (have shaped him?) him into a weapon like they did Tahri. Why? Read Rebel Dream. I'm not going to discuss my reasons here because I don't want to post a spoiler for that book in this thread. I'll post it in the thread about Rebel Dream.

In the synopsis of Traitor I believe it was it says that Vergene (Speling) teaches him new techniques in the force and Jacen comes back to the Republic and starts to really do some damage to the Vong.

in rebel dream Luke sensed a major dark side prescence on courscant... a powerful dark jedi is proably down there...

Maybe the darkside presence is Jacen? After being shaped by the Vong (who know nothing of hte darkside) perhaps he turned due to the Vong's violent ways? That would be cool... Luke shows up to find Jacen all dark and in Vong crab armor...

Here's the offical plot summery for Destiny's Way. It wasn't Traitor.

The time of reckoning is close at hand. Events in the New York Times bestselling Star Wars The New Jedi Order series take a decisive turn, as the heroes of the New Republic prepare for their most volatile clash yet with the enemy–from without and within.
In the war against the ruthless Yuuzhan Vong, the fall of Coruscant leaves the New Republic divided by internal strife, and on the verge of bowing to conquest. But those who steadfastly refuse to consider surrender–Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia Organa Solo, and their children and comrades-in-arms–are determined to seize victory against overwhelming odds. And now, finally, there are signs that the tide may be turning in the New Republic’s favor.
After capturing crucial Yuuzhan Vong intelligence, Jedi fighter-pilot Jaina Solo prepares to lead a daring surprise strike against an enemy flagship. Meanwhile, Jaina’s brother Jacen–liberated from the hands of the enemy and newly schooled in an even greater mastery of the Force by the Jedi Knight Vergere–is eagerly poised to bring his unique skills to bear against the invaders. And on Mon Calamari, the New Republic’s provisional capital, the retired, ailing hero Admiral Ackbar has conceived a major tactical plan that could spell the beginning of a swift end for the Yuuzhan Vong.
