I am probably braking all the rules of webmastering, but oh well, I was never one to conform. Outer Rim Resources, formerly known as The Cartel (which is now a sub site) is here. The site is uncomplete (as you will see) but it will be updated constantly. The only things that are completed is:
The Outer Rim Resources Main Page!!!

Yeah, thats bad but I have The Cartel (my stat archive) operating (with no stats) which will increase as time passes.

The following links will not work:
Watto's Shop
Galactic Trade and Resource Center (gtrc)
Misc. Resources

The Cartel can be seen and will fill up soon.

Oh, and the URL is:
Outer Rim Resources (http://gmspot.tripod.com/outerrim.html)

Nice site Richard!

Hmm, one suggestion though - lower the brightness or opacity of the tiled wallpaper on watto's page... or put a tinted frame behind for the text area ... would make the text easier to read ;) the steel grey for the cartel is excellent though!

Thanks for the feedback (all feedback welcome), but Im not sure how you would dim the brightness. Anyone know how i would do this.

If any of you saw my original site THE CARTEL, you know this is a major improvement.

Well, here's a try Richard ... I fired up my image editing program and desaturated the background tile a little bit.... so it's not as bright... its more now like a reptailian rusty scales orange... the bold text does show up better on it... i'll upload it here and let ya have it a go ...

saturation -28
lightness +1

also, the tile is only an 8bit paleted image, so might as well have it as a ".gif" rather than a ".jpeg". the gif format is 8bit paleted and also can have transparencies in them via selected key color. jpegs are setup to handle 24bit / 16million color depth by default and degrade in quality if ya re-save them every time if you make changes to them ... jpeg uses compression while gif don't.

been working with image editing since i started in '96 ... I don't mind doing "tweaking & adjusting" here and there if it does help someone ;)

for comparison's sake... attachment included for a combined sample of original and new desaturated version with sample arial (bold) text at 18pt

Thanks for the new background. Actually, the original background where I uploaded was a gif, but while loading, I accidently named it a jpg, so a couple days ago, I fixed my mistake. Again, thanks, when I get the time to load it up, Ill do just that.

Its only saving as a bitmap, any ideas on how to avoid this. paint just distorts the colors when you save it as jpg or gif.

eh? thats wierd ...

using paint? ms paint? paintbrush?

i myself am using corel photopaint 9 and saved it to the standard formats...

shouldn't you just be able to upload the pic as a replacement file for the site?

By the way, we have our first Cartel stat, a communication upgrade. We may see a Communication Supplement soon, plus the possibility that one more sub site may be added (another site of mine), ALSO, I may be partnering up with another webmaster and become Partnered with them. And finally, Im really busting my butt as starwars-rpg.net is about to start hosting, I want to get mine fine tuned, and perfected as much as possible, then ship it off to Reviewed Sites ASAP.

Matt, nice site. Much improved over the previous incarnation, :)

Terras, some versions of MS Paint will allow you to edit and save jpgs or gifs (Win2k and XP will allow you, to).

Well, in a meeting that i held with my webmasters earlier this week(me, Eric, Baby D, and Curtis), we laid out our objectives for this site. They are:

1. Get Matt to update the site.
2. Get Site complete and sent to Reviewed Sites ASAP
3. Get hosted by starwars-rpg.net (means we must get this thing as close to perfect as possible)
4. Create a way to increase web flow.

Number four consumed most of our discussion, which is what i would like to talk about now. We were trying to think of ways to increase trafic. I suggested that when we grew large enough, we would see if we could get our own forum on the holonet. We thought about asking sites to link to us, but I had only done that once, and felt uncomfortable asking. So Eric, being the smart guy he is, suggested we "partner" with sites. When I asked him what he meant, he said this:

Partnered sites are there to help each other in two ways: Maintnaince and Web Flow. If we partner up, whenever that site has a problem, we help them, and visa-versa. By web flow, we put banners accross our site (not too much so as not to crowed the site), and visaversa, leading the user to the partner site. That was probably a good idea, so now im coming to you with it.

Anyone who is interested in partnering, please post.

an update:

The Cartel will have stats comming in as soon as i get the RCRB learned well enough.

It appears we may do away with Watto's Shop. It is a little hard keeping up with the news; while trying to create stats.

GTRC may be changing from a critical analysis of the RPG Internet world, to actually a SWRPG Yellowbook type of thing where people put in where they are looking for members and what not.

If you havn't notice, we now have a message board, Spacer's Corner. Just there to post comments, but you can put stats there if you wish.

Well, life is getting a little busy for me and my three webmasters, and we met together and decided it was time to pack it up and end it. The main reason was because we could never really find the time to work on the site. The actuall making and maintaining the site wasnt the problem, it was the time factor. So this is what is going to happen.

Outer Rim Resources will still be able to be viewed, because Im not deleting it. If I ever feel the urge to update it again, I will.

I will return to helping DLOS, be submitting regularly. Im also going to start helping Ryan convert all of the stats into both systems.

I will dedicate myself to being a Conversions Specialist. If anyone needs some converting, just give me an email.

I will be the Conversion Specialist for starwars-rpg.net's Online Journal, plus I will write editorials for it regularly.

I will actually play the game. I promised myself I would never get to busy to not play the game, but I have, so now with quitting the site, I can start to play the actuall game. Any stats I create can be seen at DLOS.

So is this the end of Matt Richard. Nope, expect to see my name a lot more on DLOS, as I submit more, starwars-rpg.net Online Journal, and Our Corner of Space. Now time to say good bye to Outer Rim Resources...
We hardly knew thee... :D (IM FREEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!):D ...I mean...
Im very sad over this
