View Full Version : Rise of the empire campaign ideas

I'm new the SWRPG, not as new to GMing, but I was looking for some mixed party campaign ideas. Its looking like we have a jedi guardian, a smuggler and whatever the other kid decides to play. Any suggestions on how to send them on these missions are also appreciated.

A lot of it may have to do with the chemistry between the Jedi Guardian and the smuggler.

Is it like Han and Obi Wan in A New Hope, where they can barely stand each other, but have a mutual need for each other, Han for the money and Obi Wan for the ride? In that case, you'll either have the whole party worrying about the Jedi Guardian's mission, or the whole party worrying about the smuggler's problems with the law or with a rival.

If, on the other hand, the Jedi guardian and the smuggler are good friends, they may have a mutual mission- to serve the rebellion by sabotaging an Imperial base, or to rescue a planet under the control of slavers. In this case, their skills will complement each other.

The era also matters. In the Rebellion Era the smuggler might've been hired to help the Jedi keep away from Imperial Inquisitors. In each era, the relationships between your party members and the missions they'd be likely to be involved with would change.

I have had to deal with this problem before, and what I have done is I put in a love interest for the smuggler, she (or he depending on your campaign) should be able to keep the smuggler's mind off of the jedi.

give your smuggler a REASON to work with the jedi.. perhaps he's a hied.. underworld guide.. try and work out a reason with your PCs BEFORE the game starts

Well perhaps theyre are brought together as agents of the Republic by a Wise Jedi Master or Chancellor Valorum. The reason they are not all Jedi could be "Over Specialise will breed in weakness". My Group had 1 soldier, 1 Jedi guardian and 1 Scoundrel, and they all fit into a perfect triangle of abilities, each capable of covering the others back. Real Team work, no argument amongst each other at all. Was truly remarkable their achievements. They were brought together as the Soldier was leaving his past behind and booked a passage on a ship, it crashed and the only other passenger to survive was the young jedi (who had booked the passage to get home after returning his recently deceased fathers remains to another planet and grave of his mothers)...they had to work together to survive the bitter dangers of Ryloth, and make it to cover and eventually find passage. There they met a freighter captain willing to take them the rest of their journey (all were heading to Tattooine anyway). Ofcourse The Freighter captain had to land at Jabba's palace, she had some serious business to pay off Jabba...but that was an adventure initself which could bring all the characters together.

Another suggestion is their parents might know each other, or perhaps theyre a few survivors on a passenger liner disaster. Maybe even that they knew each other as children and Only just meet each other after 10 -15 years (Since his young Jedi friend was taken away for training at an early age. Perhaps before that they were good pals who often got up to mischief when they were kids. A reunification of three childhood friends that never could be seperated.

Hope that helps

force sensitive jedi students are taken to the temple at 1 year of age.. too young to remember anything of their previous life

That maybe so BrianDavion, but players are always the exception to the rule. First rule of GM'ing is the players are the heroes.

Anakin was allowed to be trained by Obi Wan and Anakin was alot older than 1, all be it an exception.

During the rise to the Empire due to the imbalance in the Force it became harder to dedect Force Sensitives. SOme masters may have recognised this and started training any Force Sensitive despite Age.

The easy way to get a mixed bag together in RoE depends on what period of RoE you're talking about.
If you're talking pre-TPM, any senator should be able to get a group of unknowns together for a mission. The fact that he wants people that are completely unknown lends some intrigue to the story immediately.
If you mean post-TPM but pre-AotC, try a special interests group or a senatorial commision. These types of missions should usually start out as recon or delivery. I've found it easier to hit the players harder with suprises along the road that way.
If we're talking post-AotC here, you have so many different options available, it's not even funny. My personal favorite in that period is a high ranking Jedi Master hires a mixed group to investigate the increasing number of Jedi that are going AWOL......

Hope this helps a little.
