I have a tech special in my game that is always tweaking weapons, driods and such. He's also working on creating some driods.

What I want to do is make things a little bit more interesting for him. I am looking for ideas on a "parts" list. Items that he will have to collect for making a weapon, driod, whatever. Now I make most types of parts easily accessible, common parts etc... but I figure if you are going to be enhancing some item, then maybe you will need to find the parts to do this... could be an interesting side adventure.

Has anyone created any type of part list? Figured I would try here before creating my own.

You could create a Weapon/Droid, it would need the basic tools for a fifth degree droid and basic tools for a blaster (or any other weapon) the techie would also need to find the weapon frame and then it would cost 2,000 credits and DC 25 Search check or Gather Information (GM choice) for all the components or you could do it piece by piece by finding items off enemies or solving a mystery or puzzle to find one, and there could be 20 shops in a town, while 8 have the components, and you could have him solve a riddle for it or question the locals. It would be a Craft check DC 20 to create it, and the cost of the item would be 8,000 creds. The item looks like a blaster pistol, yet it gives +2 on attack rolls due to AI targeting and it is also a "companion". The blaster can also Repair itself with skill mod. +4 (with the respective parts), unless the AI is hit (when it has 2 WP left) sz medium blaster pistols group. The blaster uses two power packs

Nightninja, I think he was referring more to a list of parts available to use for modifications such as:
Targeting scope x5 magnification
Targeting scope x10 mag.
Targeting scope low light
Targeting scope night vision
Quick change adaptor for power packs and/or gas charges
Folding stock ala E-11
etc..
Yes? No? :)

exactly.

I've started compiling my own list, perhaps once it's finished i'll post it here to see what you guys think.

never forget the following parts-

Motivator- "This r2 unit has a bad motivator!"
Optics- "Oh, i can see!"
Power Conduit-
Reverse Power Couplinks-
Power Couplinks (if there are reverse ones, there have to be regular ones!)
Droid brains (Starship style)- "3P0, I need you to talk to the Falcon."
inertial dampeners-
magenetic generator- "They're magenetically sealed!"
Chassis- (everything has one!)
Lens assembly-
Recharage socket-

those are the only ones i can think of at the top o me head.

As a GM who has unflinching eyebrows for the Repair skill (I make characters spend money on parts, not just a Repair check), I applaud your endeavor. I'd suggest for the sake of convenience however to just pick up a copy of JEGS or Sears catalog and look at all the automative and electrical parts. Find a name and slap a Star Wars kind of name- like a Plasma Carb or an Ionic Ignition Switch... etc.

I like the idea of using the JEGS or Sears catalog, should be able to come up with some interesting things.

Thanks!

Let's not forget those handy tools to assemble the needed gadgets:

Hydrospanner (torque rules!)
Fusion Cutter (handy for starting over)
Power Prybar (square peg in round hole)
Hammer (mechanical agitation)

You get the idea :p

Hey, a nice hook might be insisting that the character has to get, not just any power couplink, but an Industrial Automaton type 4B, suitable for 4th degree units. If the character has to look for parts from a particular company, it could make the search for the part both more interesting and challenging, while adding realis. Anyway, I've listed a few Star Wars droid companies below to supplement the parts list given earlier:

Industrial Automaton
Cybot Galactica
Geentech
Publitechnic
Arakyd
Accutronics
Lanthe Artifice
Caldrahlsen Mechanicals
Serv-O-Droid
Veril Line Systems
MerenData
Medtech Industries (med droids)
Imperial Droid Corporation
Danth Artifice Ltd.

Well, I hope this list adds some flavour to your game. Good luck! :)

I would be interested in seeing it when you are finished.

Don't forget the sandwich :D :p .

Well anyway, the parts the Tech Specialist needs depends on what kind of droid or weapon he is upgrading. I don't really have any lists of parts or anything, though :( .
