Here`s the background for a little adventure I`m kicking off a campaign with tomorrow....
I`ll tell you how it goes later...

Palpatine is a man of vision, with great patience. Already he has initiated plans which he believes will eventually bring the entire galaxy under his control. The plans for the first Death Star are underway, combining the thoughts of Raith Sienar with Geonosian engineering. But such schemes will not bear fruit for nearly thirty years…
Only a couple of months have passed since the Battle of Naboo. Although he lost his apprentice, and his pawns in the Trade Federation failed him, Palpatine saw many advantages in the resulting situation. One thing he observed was the effectiveness of Gungan shield technology; that of the infantry troops, but more importantly that of the shield generators carried by the Gungan’s fambaa creatures. Palpatine was great potential in such, until then unseen, inventions…the potential to project a vast, shaped energy shield…perhaps around a small moon…or battle-station in geo-stationary orbit. And hence he envisioned the shield generators which would not be fully developed by the time of the first Death Star, but would be fully operational in time for the second…
Through his pawns in the Naboo administration, Palpatine initiated diplomatic technology-sharing initiatives with the Gungans, but they refused to share the shield technology even with their new allies: the Naboo. Hence he looks to more shadowy resources, and a plan to bring an alien world under domination.
Through a web of intermediaries, he directs the Elomin senator: Chyren, to begin buying up the Trade Federation’s resources (as the Republic forcibly downsizes the Federation’s armed forces), in order to quell civil disturbances between the native Elomin and Elom factions (again caused by Palpatine; trade disputes, racial tensions, lynchings, food and water rationing unfairness, etc). Chyren is using an Elomin gunrunner (Ginza) and his crew to sneak as much weaponry and as many droids as possible onto Elom, as fast as possible as rumours spread that the populace are on the verge of revolt. As more and more droids are put into service on Elom, rioting increases. Chyren panics but sees no way out other than importing more and more forces.
In addition, Ginza receives an order (with a large cash attachment) to ‘procure’ a pair of Gungan fambaa; one carrying a shield generator, the other with the necessary powering capacitor. This is actually a direct order from agents of Governor Wilhuff Tarkin of Eriadu (working for Palpatine, of course, and using the same contact frequencies as orders from senator Chyren).
Ginza hires the PCs to steal the gear and equipment, and then rendezvous with him and his crew on Morjannsik city, on Mon Calamari. Unknown to him, Tarkin’s agents have informed the Judicials of the planned meet. As the Judicials attempt to arrest Ginza’s crew and the PCs, other Judicials seize the PC’s ship.
Hence senator Chyren is accused of stealing the Gungan technology. At this point racial tensions on Elom reach boiling point and civil war breaks out. The Elom, hearing of Chyren’s further acquisitions of military hardware, believe the Elomin are seeking to enslave them (as has been the case in the past on Elom).
As the PCs and Ginza’s crew are hauled off to a quick trial and penal colony, the PCs ship goes mysteriously missing (stolen by Judicial double-agents working for Tarkin). The technology is hence transported to the secret Maw Installation where a new protégé of Tarkin’s: Bevel Lemelisk, labours over various projects for the coming New Order. Also, with civil war breaking out on Elom; a major source of Lommite ore (in addition to mining worlds such as Dorvalla), organisations such as the Corporate Alliance Guild and (disgraced) Trade Federation, voice their concerns and protests that the disturbances will damage them and their installations on Elom.
The Republic quickly votes to grant the organisations power to not only protect their property, but also to (under the Republic’s guidance) bring order to Elom. With the aid of a rapidly-deployed Droid Control Ship, senator Chyren’s droid forces are suddenly returned to the Trade Federation’s control. With aid from the Judicials and Corporate Alliance Guild security forces, an uneasy order is brought back to Elom. The fact that Sienar Fleet Systems is a major power in the Corporate Alliance Guild is worthy of note…ensuring that Raith Sienar’s human occupation forces have majority control on Elom. The poor, used and misguided senator Chyren will join the PCs and Ginza…
That is of course, if they didn’t escape…and get caught up in the other events…

Okay, sorry dude, it`s a bit twisty, eh?
The whole thing takes place a month after ep1.

basically:
The PCs are used to....
1) get a gungan shield for the DeathStar project
2) cause a civil war on Elom
3) subsequently cause the (mainly human) occupation of Elom and general bad-feeling toward certain alien races.

All building up for the Empire...
piece by piece..

I like it because it starts small...the PCs just think they`re thieves....then they`re caught up in galactic-turmoil...
