    Default Holonet FAQ Suggestion

Would it be possible to include in the FAQ a section detailing commonly used abbreviations? While many of us might know what PrC, WotC, EU, Ep1, Ep2, Ep3, PM, PMS(strike that), RotJ, TESB, ANH, NRESB, DSSB, NJO, and all of the other abbreviations we use regularly mean, newcomers don't. Also, would it be possible to put the FAQ in a more conspicuous place than the preferences menu?
ty for listening to my suggestion. ttyl all, cya!

Word to that! I consider myself about 80% Star Wars nut (i lost some percentage in my silent contempt of all books Vector Prime and later) and while im familiar with most of the abbreviated lingo i even have trouble with some of it, i think for new rpgers a faq would be great it could include not only abbreviations but stuff like the level advancement and other aspects of the holonet

    Elf,

You know, that's a very good idea. I've been on the boards for over a year, and I still have to ferrit out some of the abbreviations used on the holonet.

This idea doesn't seem to have got any attention for a while, so I thought I'd add my voice to say I think it would be a very useful addition to the FAQ.
And I'm tempted to start a list of acronyms and abbreviations here already.

We can increase the chances that this will happen, and decrease the workload of the SWRPGNetwork staff, if we come up with the list ourselves. Then they can just copy and paste. I'll start with everything I can think of.

CRB - Core Rulebook, d20 system
RCRB - Revised Core Rulebook, d20 system
    R&E - Revised and Expanded, D6 2nd Edition
ANH - A New Hope (Episode IV)
ESB or TESB - The Empire Strikes Back (Episode V)
RotJ - Return of the Jedi (Episode VI)
TPM - The Phantom Menace (Episode I)
AotC - Attack of the Clones (Episode II)
    WP - Wound Points
    VP - Vitality Points
    FP - Force Point
    DSP - Dark Side Point
    CP - Character Point
TotJ - Tales of the Jedi

    C&M - Chaos and Miscellanea (a forum)
NRESB - New Republic Era Sourcebook (a fan project)
DSSB - Dark Side Source Book
PotJ - Power of the Jedi Sourcebook
EU - Expanded Universe (any non-film material)
WotC - Wizards of the Coast (d20 publisher)
WEG - West End Games (D6 Publisher)
PM - Private Message (Holonet messaging system)
    PrC - Prestige Class
    TF.N - TheForce.Net (a major Star Wars site)

    GL - George Lucas
    LFL - LucasFilm Licensing

I'm sure there are more, but these are what I can remember off the top of my head.

Well I'll continue then, hope none of these are repeats.

    OT - Original Trilogy
    OCR - Original Core Rules
    [b[D20 Sourcebooks[/b]

SotG - Starships of the Galaxy
C&CW - Coruscant and the Core Worlds

    FA - Force Adept
    JG - Jedi Guardian
    JC - Jedi Consular
    FW - Force Warrior
    JA - Jedi Ace
    JM - Jedi Master
    JWM - Jedi Weapons Master

    MO - Move Object
I think the only one that comes up very often.

    Mechanics
    BAB - Base Attack Bonus

Seeing as how 3 new users currently have questions about the rank system posted on just the first page of this board, I thought I'd reiterate that making the FAQ more noticeable would probably be a good idea.

I'm not ignoring you, I promise!

In fact, I'm going to put this list in the FAQ right now. Eventually I'm going to restructure the FAQ, but for now the information will be present for those curious about it.

Here's where you can find the list of abbreviations -- keep it handy for those times when someone just can't figure out what "OR/RotE with a PrC and a Ref save" means :-)

That's excellent, I'm sure lots of people will find the list helpful. I just hope you're prepared for queues of people lining up to point out abbreviations that aren't on there .
