Question QUOCKRA-4 -- Planet of Mystery

Greetings my fellow Players and Game Masters. I am planning some major gaming on the desert planet of the Minos Cluster, Quockra-4.

Please refer to "Galaxy Guide 6 - Tramp Freighters" to refresh your memories if need be. Quockra-4 can be found on page 57 in the first edition version of GG#6, and can be found on page 65 in the second edition version of GG#6.

Has anyone used this planet before?

I would like to hear any story ideas or adventures you personally had on the planet. I want to hear any ideas people have had even if they have never used it. Please share.

The Minos Cluster is a pretty interesting place. I've never used Quockra-4 in my campaign, but I've used the Shesarile system, and one of the Jedi in my group is from Yelsain. In fact, their first adventure took place on Yelsain during the Grand Moot.

    Lightbulb Wow I'm Shocked

Nobody has used this planet out there?

    Is this truly new territory?

Well then let me lead the way.

Anyway, for the benefit of the next guy who may need a few notes on Quockra-4, I will share the ideas my wife, and I have come up with.

    1. In the capsule, it describes the planet as being very wet, and now it is a dessert. We narrowed this cataclysm down to several theories:
-- A: Ancient super weapon used by the Quockrans in error or against the Quockrans by some alien foe.
-- B: Meteor of massive size struck the planet.
-- C: Massive global war centuries ago.
-- D: Sith war or a battle with god-like FORCE users.
-- E: War with resource stealing alien race of superior strength. They simply pumped the planet dry.

    2. In the capsule it also describes the Quockrans as being Xenophobic (Fear of off-worlders or alien species). We have several theories regarding this race's phobia:
-- A: The above mentioned Cataclysm sparked the racial phobia.
-- B: The racial phobia was caused by a second race that came to the aid of the Quockrans, and took advantage of them.
-- C: Fear and Hatred of aliens may predate the Quockran cataclysm, and has been ingrained by it.

    3. As for the Quockrans today, they export high tech goods, and heavy machinery, but use droids as their corporate proxies. This is why there is a demand for doids, and droid services on the planet. Droids maintain the link with the galactic economy. It appears the Quockrans have no other needs from the rest of the galaxy. This suggests the following theories:
-- A: The Quockrans recovered from cataclysm and are relatively self sufficient in their underground communities.
-- B: The Quockrans may have massive underground facilities carved into the subterranean rock.
-- C: Massive gardens rich with plants and animals are maintained on Quockra-4.
-- D: Water is carefully conserved underground and is recycled via advanced filtering and processing.
-- E: The Quockrans clearly produce goods through some massive industry, and there may be evidence of this (smoke stacks, waste dumps) out in the deep desert.
-- F: Some of the life maintained underground may trickle out into the deep deserts via vents and other passages, and compose the animals, and plants occasionally seen on the planet's desserts.

Well that is my first installment of Quockra-4 ideas. Maybe this will seed more ideas. As I develop more I will share.

    Thumbs up Sounds good

Yeah, when you first mentioned this planet, I hadn't even heard anything about it more than a very peripheral reference, so I felt it would be wasteful of me to post simply in order to say I hadn't done anything with it.

As it is, with no one else mentioning anything either, I think you'll be establishing the planet pretty much for GMs. Good luck and have fun!

used it but altered it..and so didnt think it worth posting.. but anyway...
it was changed using ideas from the old starfrontiers game Volturnous series -first book is called Volturnous: planet of mystery-

didnt like limbless slugs having high tech but no way to create it..- no limbs or telekinetic like ability-

the quokra no longer looked like slugs but like dralasites -imagine ugors without the shape changing ability- kept the quokran stats, only strength was dropped to 2D max.

used it in tales of the jedi era as a planet that was devastated by an alien fleet, the race was decimated to the point of almost extinction, so they created robots to carry on doing most of the work for them, the droids evolved and created more of themselves and even created a religion..

most of the qoukran survivors were placed in cryo storage with only a very few left to carry on and slowly over time others were awaken- adding fresh dna to the depleted gene pool-

players -including a jedi who lost arm and light saber in this adventure- managed to find an ancient orbiting station in wide orbity filled with cryo frozen eggs of the quokrans after helping the droids and quokrans get rid of the pirates forcing them into slave mining labor..
reason mentioning the jedi at all is it was used as a hook later on by a person wanting to be a jedi during the rebellion era, who was the decendant of the jedi who arrived earlier..

finding the droids are the xenophobs and hate all non droid lifeforms and the Quokrans are the ones left to live underground without outside contact for many millenia.
at that time the alien fleet returns -players inadvertantly activate a becon alerting the alien race of a presence on the plaet and come back to finish the job..
players help the qoukrans and the droids by helping fight off the aliens.. the imperials also arrive and save the day..
had to seriously cut it brief since it was involved in a multigeneration campaign and detailing would take quite a bit of space..
losing faith in humanity one assclown at a time..

    Very Interesting

Wolfe I Game Mastered Star Frontiers back in the 80's I am intimately acquainted with Volturnus, and Drastalites.

Now I am wondering how I can use some of your ideas in my own campaign. I don't plan to change Quockra-4, but I do plan to put some muscle, and flesh on the skeleton found in Galaxy Guide 6.

didnt like limbless slugs having high tech but no way to create it..- no limbs or telekinetic like ability-
So Wolfe how do you know the Quockrans have no arms? Are not Hutts a form of slug race? Does not Jaba have arms? Is this from some other source I know nothing of?

I used Quockra-4 in an Adventure of mine. The PC's started trading with Driods on the planet bringing in more military type driods and lots of parts. After a few months of trading this way an old protocal driod talked them into helping the driods rebel against thier masters. The only problem was the driods couldn't fight the masters becouse they had programing restraints. So the PC's had to go deep into the planet and seek them out. I had huge underground Factories and Cities filled with driods and only a very few Quockran. They looked kinda like Hutts, just not as big.

Default More Notes for the Desert Planet

OK I have been thinking, and have a few more ideas.

I totally agree with you. The Quockrans do not import any raw materials, yet they export high tech goods and heavy machinery. This is a strong indicator Quockra-4 is rich in mineral resources and metals. I envision giant strip miner droids that hollow out huge chambers removing and processing any valuable materials. Once empty of valuable ores, the Quockrans install artificial light, and populate the empty caverns with plant and animal life, transforming them into massive gardens, and underground jungles. I am not sure how the Quockrans generate power but geothermal taps seem the most likely method of producing power for their energy-hungry activities.

I was watching "Men in Black II" and saw a family of slug-like creatures on line at the immigration counter. The slug-like aliens in question did not look like hutts at all, they had eyestalks and slimy glistening flesh. I am not sure how I want to handle the appearance of the Quockrans yet, but I would prefer to make them very different from the huts in both temperament and appearance. If I come up with any more ideas, this will be the place I share them. Thanks kirkler .

Progress report and campaign update for 2008

My players have been finding strange devices appearing in some technology purchased on Quockra-4.

The players have been using the Holonet to communicate with other mechanics that found the devices as well and traced the problems back to Q4.

The devices are wired in series into components purchased on Q4. When removed, the devices self-destruct by becoming superheated and then they melt. No devices have been removed intact yet.

The casings on these small egg-shaped objects are impenetrable to scanning equipment and any attempts to reverse engineer their function have failed.

The players suspect electronic warfare. Many ships and components tainted with this technology have taken over entire systems and have caused fatalities.

Most of the devices have been collecting sensor data and broadcasting it back to Q4 in an encrypted manner unknown to galactic standard technology. The players suspect spying but they are not sure.

There have been rumors for some time that Q4 is haunted and ships are being possessed by the spirits of the dead but the players are now realizing there may be a real reason for the known incidents of equipment going haywire that come from the planet.

The university of Ardalon has led an expedition to MC042 (Minos cluster survey planet #042) and found strange artifacts at their dig site that had markings seen in the sewers of Quockra-4. Some of these alien ruins have also been seen etched on these "sabotage devices" Theories abound of an ancient civilization that spanned both systems.

Thats all for now. Have fun with this GMs. The subterfuge of Quockra-4 continues to confound and mystify the citizens of the Minos cluster and beyond. What new discoveries and mysteries will be revealed? More next time...

The Tramp Freighter campaign was the first SW game I ever ran, so my players and I are fond of the Minos Cluster. We never did much on Quockra; their ship crash landed there after a hyperspace accident. IIRC, Quockran droids attacked the grounded ship and the PCs scrounged the resulting droid wreckage to fix the nav puter. The players didn't seem interested in where the droids came from or what their purpose was, so I don't think we ever went back there.

So, let me just say, have fun in the Minos Cluster. That's a great setting.

Its been my pleasure to keep bringing the planet's name up in scenarios.

They only have a handful of clues and I always impress upon the players indirectly they are playing with fire and things beyond their understanding and control. To a degree this is the truth. The net effect is the planet has taken on a creepy reputation.

One of these days they might get the idea to mount an expedition and then the real fun will start. It continues to be a planet of mystery.

Progress report and campaign update for 2015

I'm back for another update. Yes this group is still playing in this campaign and they finally built up the courage to visit this planet and discover its many mysteries and secrets.

I named the spaceport on this planet "Quo Tsao" and none of the droids or visiting spacers know anything about the meaning or origin of the name.

I made the spaceport a giant cylinder-shaped hole just south of the equator, its 1 km deep and 1 km in diameter. The design keeps the spaceport accessible but also shades the area from the direct rays of the scorching sun. Huge hangars, shops, garages, and other businesses line the inside of this cylinder. The various levels of the cylinder are accessed on foot or ground vehicle via a wide multi-lane spiral roadway that winds its way down the circumference of the 1 km descent. every 200 meters or so there are also turbolifts to transport large loads up and down faster. At the bottom 1km below the surface there is a huge tarmac for bulk transports to land and load / offload.

Under the spaceport is a vast network of 4 meter x 4 meter tunnels. The locals call them "the sewers" but the party found very little water and sewage down there.

The group did manage to collect some good recordings of ancient hieroglyphs on some of the crumbling walls but also foolishly damaged some wires to the Quockran sensor / survalance network. They were summarily escorted off the planet by an army of violently attacking combat droids, 6FT-DP Security Droids, E522 Assassin Droids, and Ulban Arms Class I Defense Droids, to be exact.

The group got shot up pretty bad but they escaped and lived to lick their wounds, patch their ships, and plot their next caper to sneak back and learn more. I plan to have Quockran droid spies track the Party back to the Travnin System and do some reconnaissance and sabotage of their own.

Thats all for now. Have fun with this GMs. The subterfuge of Quockra-4 continues to confound and mystify the citizens of the Minos cluster, the Elrood Sector, and beyond. What new discoveries and mysteries will be revealed? More next time...

Nice! I've always wanted to run something in the Minos Cluster.
