    Default Medals

I'm putting together a list of medals (complete with pictures of the ribons) for the Alliance during the Rebellion era. I have loads of pictures taken from real medals from around the world (http://www.medals.org.uk/) but need ideas for medal awards.

I have plenty of Ideas for the medals, service length in different parts of the alliance, civillian awards, awards for heroism, badges of merit etc etc. but as you know (or may not know), a large proportion of medals will come from campaigns. So I'm asking you to list as many combat actions the Rebel alliance has been in (EU or otherwise). The only ones that could name were the Yavin, Hoth, Endor etc etc. If you could also give a rough time period as well (my capaign is between Episode 4 and 5 at the moment) just so my NPC's don't start turning up with with medallions for things that haven't happened yet.

Whats in it for you? Well a copy of it when its finished of course. Any engagement or operation you can think of that the alliance has performed, anything at all...

They had some medals in the old X Wing game. You got one for missions completed, and that's all I know.

But Gollum, and the evil one crept up
And slipped away with her her

Rules of Engagement: The Rebel Specforces Handbook mentioned five types of medals/decorations.

The Redbird, awarded to all branches of the Alliance military, is a small red pin of the Alliance symbol awarded for being injured in the line of duty.

The Superior Service Medal, awarded for ongoing excellence in the line of duty. This is a simple metal disc with an Alliance symbol embossed on it, suspended from a blue and red ribbon.

The Crescent of Valor. For brave and valorous conduct under fire, the Crescent of Valor is a crescent embossed on a field of stars, suspended from a blue ribbon.

The Cross Crosslet. For extraordinary valor, going far beyond the call of duty, the Cross Crosslet is a gold cross on a platinum background. This award is awarded posthumously in 45 percent of cases.

The Coruscant Star of Valor. In the period following the Battle of Endor, the New Republic created this award, the highest it bestows on military personnel. It is intended to reflect the bravery of the soldiers and pilots who seized Coruscant from the Empire.

These three are personal creations for my own campaigns...

The LifeStar given to all who survived the Battle of Endor. A seven-pointed platinum star with a tiny ruby at each point suspended from a royal purple ribbon.

The Survivor's Medallion. When the New Republic was officially declared, this honor was bestowed upon all Alliance soldiers (not fringers who occasionally aided the Alliance) with more than ten years service experience. Meant to honor those lucky few who survived more than ten years of actively warring against the Empire. This is a tiny golden kite shield with a cross of sapphires on the front suspended from a silver and white ribbon.

The Black Omega Pin. Awarded for... no one but the recipients know. All Black Omega pins are awarded for operations that officially never happened. 85% are awarded posthumously. Paradoxically these are white Omega (as in the Greek letter) symbols on a black disc.

The citizens do not need to know what the cost is. They only need know that the mission has been accomplished.

Thanks, that helps me alot, but I'm still looking for engagements that the alliance has been involved in ('cause I'm making lots of my own up), for eaxample in the RA Sourcebook there is that insert on that battle thing where they withdrew and shafted the Empire, does anyone know of any other battles from books, WEG adventures, d20 adventures anything at all.

In the Imperial Sourcebook (2nd Ed) there is mention of the Battle of Ton-Falk. It is under the capsule for the Escort Frigate.

I am still looking for any more, so if I find some I will let you know.

Some battles I've heard from Decipher SWCCG:

    Derra IV
    Kaassshyk (huh spelling?)
    Ralltiir subjugation
    Mon Calamari

That's all i can remember for the moment.
No plan ever survives contact with the enemy.

According to Rebel Dawn (by A. C. Crispin - pg 375-381 pb), the "Red Hand Squadron" fought a battle on the planet Toprawa.

It was an intelligence operation that captured the plans for the "latest Imperial secret weapon" and then transmitted them to a rebel courier ship -- a Corellian corvette... Obviously, we're led to believe this is how the Rebels gained the Death Star plans before ANH (though I think other sources suggest other methods).

All operatives on the mission died, but I have no doubt the Rebel Alliance would have conferred on them a very special posthumous medal.

    Smile Posthumous Medals

Another example for posthumous honour can be found during the Bakura Incident. As you can remember the Alliance Cruiser Carrier Flurry was destroyed by the Imperial Carrack Cruiser Dominant. All hands were lost.

But they all were posthumously decorated for their heroic sacrifice. They probably received the same medal as the operations team of the Red Hand Squadron, mentioned by Chris Curtis.

    X-Wing Alliance had several awards--

Civilian Battle Award--for those civilians who willingly aided the Alliance and showed great courage

    Mantooine Medallion

    Star of Alderaan

Kalidor Crescent--This medal can have several pins added to it. Among them are, in increasing order, the:
Bronze Cluster, Silver Talon, Silver Scimitar, Golden Wings, and Diamond Eyes

There were a few others, but I remember those best
Verik Aligeri: I will be invincible among the stars.

the Imperial and rebel awards can be found in TIE fighter and X-wing PC games..

the only imperial award I recall off the top of my head is "The Emperor's will" or something

the Rebels have the Mantooine Medallion, the Corellan Cross and the Star of Alderaan

and of course the famous Kalodor crescant.

all these medals I mentioned have their pictures depicted and you should be able to find em easily eneugh without having to apply a picture of the Victoria cross or something

Well you could have campaign ribbons (color coded to correspond to which region they earned it in).

heck I think there is info in the rogue squadron novel regarding a campaign ribbion
I think endor was red or something and had a black dot in the middle if you survived the "death star run"

Are the medals presented here only good for the Rebellion era, or would the New Republic use the same medals in the New Jedi Order?
