Game Summary for Beginners (Special thanks to Terras!):
The 5 groups thing is more of taking one huge game campaign idea and carving it up into smaller seperate groups, each with its own GM, and individual missions and such. Anything that major happens in one group may be relayed as news or events across to the other groups. There's also some plans for the occasional pair or join groups together at the same time & place once in a while. A person could have multiple characters, in in each group of choosing. We've got a few players like that. And as by my own example, I play in RG1 and co-gm RG2.
When you make a character, you only need to make sure it fits close enough to the group you have joined / wanting to join. Some pointers would be reading up on the IC thread of that group to see where they've started from and where they're currently at. In some cases, shuold you have a cool idea for a background, talk about it with the GM and he'll most likely work it in or suggest a slight modification or change.
Its probably a good idea to have one or couple character concepts / ideas in mind when you ask the gm about joining, as well as which classes / multiclasses your thinking of.
The only other important thing or two I can think of and can't stress heavily enough is - these games can get fairly active in a week's course, and can easily slow down for days at a time. Attendance: Checking in regularly into the game thread is important. Temporary absences do happen, usually best if notified in advance. We've had people who sign up to play or GM, run with the show for a while then totally drop off the radar indefinately. They're characters usually end up as NPC's or until the GM fades them out. In the case of a GM, if there's no active co-gm, then the group gets disbanded, or is left hanging and needing a new gm... (happened to mercinaries & imperials before, and also to RG1 before it gotten resurected.)
In that respect, I'm only hesitant in adding in new players simply because the current players in RG2 have proven themselves as dedicated players, who are hot on the ball, good in attendance. Its always a gamble if you know what i mean. Good reliable players are hard to come by, and ya really don't know until some time after they join.

New Thread YaY!!!!!!!!!
Come PCs of the Land!! Come and let us plot to destroy those double crossing, no good, half witted nerfherreders of GMs!!!!!!!!!!!
MUHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
MUHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAUGHUGHUGH!!!!!!!!!
*Drops to floor as Q:TU's GM's walk in the room as he suffers from Force Grip to the neck*
Anyhow, Great job on starting the new thread. I think all Q:TU threads should be limited to 300 posts due to having to search lodes of pages to find something you want to look at. Also a Beginers' Request Thread and a Landmark Events Thread should be posted. This and the other threads should be stickied so they are easy to find. *looks to Admins end of the table* Not like it needs it. It's been with in the top 15 threads for the past 2 years.

Well as for commenting on the 300 posts per thread limit... The established limit is actually ~500 (give or take a few posts). Its outlined in the Roleplaying Threads stickied threads, or at least mentioned / suggested.
If your having troubles keeping track or looking up / referencing... Theres always the copy'n'paste to notepad for each new page. not hard to do if done daily. easy to use the search function in notepad Just a suggestion anyways.
Of course theres also the advanced search function to the right sidebar, specify the roleplaying thread and possibly a person...
Or do what most of us do- just thumb and skim back through the pages
And also anything signifigant, you can jot down the post number / page number
anyways, just some tips and ideas for ya

You could also open the thread by clicking on its name (i.e. not through the "last post" link); the address will look like:
http://holonet.swrpgnetwork.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14658
Then, in your browser's address bar, add &perpage=50 to the end of the address. The "50" is number of post per page; you could change this to anything you like. The old Q:TU Trader's thread has 809 posts (as I write this); I suppose you could set perpage=809 and look at the entire thread on one page.
I don't know if there's an upper limit to how many posts can be shown on one page, but this would make searching very easy. I'm not brave enough to try this right now over dial-up.
You can also add &pagenumber=4 to end of the address, and jump ahead in large increments.
Hope this is of some help.

&perpage=50 ? dosnt seem to work... dunno, must be doing it wrong :p
nevermind, just tried it... had to click on original link and not last post...
btw, 800 dont work:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted at (null):0 (tried to allocate 3838913 bytes) in /var/www/swrpgnetwork.com/html/holonet.swrpgnetwork.com/showthread.php(474) : eval()'d code on line 88

sofar, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 and so forth, each time taking a litle bit longer. I'm on highspeed, and its not the highspeed connection, but the holonet's own server that is the time keeper here. 300 actually took ~15 seconds give or take...
Your right though, at 500 posts, a thread wouldnt take very long to navigate / search through, only 5 pages at 100, or 2 pages at 250. Does make good use of the browser's find function
Kudos man! I definately suggest trying 100 - 250 on yer dialup, as text is highly compressable for webpage loading speeds over dialup.
I think i'm going to bookmark rg2 again with the custom adress, as for times like these where i've been busy and away from the game for a week, sure makes things heck of alot easier to backtrack and skim

Really? It will only work if you use a THREAD id, not a POST id.
This works for me:
"http://holonet.swrpgnetwork.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14658&perpage=50"
(The URL above should show as plain text, not a hyperlink.)

Aaaah!
*taking a deep breath*
Home sweet home!
Try it with this:
Step one: Open "Change Options" on your User Control Pannel.
Second step: Scroll down to the bottom of the page.
Step three: Look at "Thread View Options"
Step four: Change your specification on "Default Posts per Thread:
Number of posts that are shown on one page of a thread." to 50, 40 or whatever you like.
This seems to be the easiest way to change the number of posts per page!
:EDIT:
Why is everybody so much faster typing than me? ARRGH!

Smugglers Update |
[ post #14 ] |
Due to the fact thatfirst I had some Rl probs then apparently so did everyone else, this game offically is down to one player (who is currently in Iraq and can't post real often) and myself (GM) I will be restarting this little slice of heaven in approximately two weeks. If there are any interested in filling the slots for the game there will be four possibly 5 openings. PM me with your interest and we'll go from there. Psychoinfiltrator you are welcome to rejoin. Things will go more smoothly this time since my life is now relatively free of hassles.

Lord Max, I assume you have a new storyline? Or at least a new starting point. After all-at least two of us players have already played through it.
Also, Max, this might be a great chance to hook up with another Tetra's Umbra group for the start assuming it can be done-it would be cool!
With Regards,
Psych.

Does it have to be so restrictive in terms of what you can be? Surely the galaxy is comprised of more than just smugglers, jedi and bounty hunters?
What about a straight-up thief (like a catburglar type) in one of the "smuggler" spots? The scoundrel class would work nicely for that, too ...
It'd be kind of fun to play a plain old master thief.

I would accept a theif happily. smugglers do things besides run drugs and guns. a little b&e and possibly some strong armed robbery will definately be in their future. SpaceyBH if you have a character concept in mind shoot it to me and you might just fill the last slot.

Cool! Do you have creation guidlines I should look at, or should I just send you a background and then we work from there?
And if it's the latter, what level range are we in, at least, so I'll know what experience level to assume when creating a background?
Edit: I just re-read the first post. The answers are all there. Please forgive my semi-drunk self.
Okay, I'll work something out here inna sec. =)

Well we've had a recent flurry of activity recently, in terms of group compopsition, so here's an update:
Information Update:
TO JOIN: Contact GM of the group you wish to join.
Location: HoloNet Roleplaying Forum
System: d20 Revised Core Rules
Abilities: 35 point buy system
Level: 4th or lower
Era: Late Rebellion/Early NR (RotJ, specifically, the opening of SW6)
Force: No Jedi starting classes, Force Adepts may multiclass into Jedi after two levels of advancement, with appropriate in-game actions
Credits: Equipment relevant to PC
Transportation: TBD (dependent on type of group)
Factions: 5 sympathy points, to be distributed by the player among the factions listed in the HG.
Story: Events proceed as canon unless directly affected by PCs
Faction Organization:
Indie #1 (Bounty Hunters):
GMs: Ronin
Players: KnightStalker (Courier), Crymoon (Gambler), coldskier (Sniper), Jan Tolbara (Warrior), SmugglerJedi (Smuggler)
Accepting New Players: Not at the moment.
Indie #2 (Smugglers):
GMs: max ordo
Players: Darth Phobeius, PsychoInfiltrator, Vjerzag, darth_borehd, SpaceyBH
Accepting New Players: Not at the moment.
Indie #3 (Mercenaries):
GMs: djas_puhr
Players: Uron Teff (Scl/FA), boccelounge (Frg/Scl), chiefcaptin (Scl/Sol)
Accepting New Players: Not at the moment, however, perhaps in the near future.
Rebel #1:
GMs: coldskier0320
Players: Terras (Frg/Sct), Vanger (Pilot), Gyp (CorSec), Jemma (Techie), Ris (Pilot)
Accepting New Players: Not at the moment.
Rebel #2:
GMs: Terras and Vanger
Players: Ris (MedTech), Red5_5 (Pilot), Dr. Worm (SpecOps), Ronin (Martial Arts FA), darth_wyld (Faceman), Rostek (JOAT), max ordo
Accepting New Players: Not at the moment.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OK, and to respond to a few things:
|
Does it have to be so restrictive in terms of what you can be? Surely the galaxy is comprised of more than just smugglers, jedi and bounty hunters? |
|
Well, first of all, there's no Jedi in this game. Secondly, the group names are just general guidelines for character creation, they determine political alignment and the like, but inside that, the strictness of adherence to the group name is up to the GM. Also, this game is only as strong as its GMs, and whatever type of group they want to GM is fine by me, so long as they stick with it. That said, I'm really pleased with all of you GMs, you've all done an excellent job thus far and hopefully some year we can unveil Q:TV...muhahahaaaaa...
|
Semi-Drunk is not toleratede. either be sloppy falling down drunk or dead sober. no in between. |
max is absolutely dead on in this regard. Partial drunkenness will, in no way, shape, or form be tolerated in the Quadrant community. As benevolent head pumbaa of this shindig, I hereby declare this to be etched into the permanent Q:TU Commandments:
Thou shalt not enter these hallowed threads in any state of partial drunkenness. If thou shalt find thyself in such a state, thou must either wait until such a time as thou art entirely sober or thou shalt advance thine state to one of utter and complete drunkenness.
Happy hunting Everyone!!!
Hey honey! Past the saki, will ya!
[burp] I declare a new gaming system: Drunken20! Yeah! Don't listen to me, I'm drunk! With some, uh, dice, with like uh, 20 sides! Yeah! And they blow up too!
Puh-lease, drunk d20 is sweet.
Just like drunk open-threads on your favorite blog.
Or drunk poker.
Or drunk PbP (and on the Holonet! Ohhh yes- anyone care to guess what instance that was, bwhahahaha! ).
Pretty much everything's fun when you've got a bit of a buzz (though my body mass and genetic resistance to the effects of alchohol make it difficult to get that buzz, and nearly impossible to get drunk, unless I'm really trying ). Except driving- Hear that kids?
If you are unable to play responsibly then please try and injure only yourself and not others. Especially a bus full of nuns or something. Also don't test a drunk GM. That will also equal a bad idea I imagine.
Running into walls - now that actually is fun, especially if you're making your friends do it and not you! Bwahahahaha! |
|
No! You're both wrong! Running into walls is definitely NOT a good idea, and I've got the head-sized hole in my apartment wall to prove it. (Roommate, not me, after a healthy night of partying). So yeah, no wall running.
...that said...anyone have any information they can send me on drywall repair?
Thanks, djas, I've already been there, but its the thought that counts . I think our particular special hole is a bit too large for that method, but it may work, and I actually think I may try that method.
Oh no! coldskier with HARDWARE equipment!!!
As a side note, I've used that method for a 12 inches by 18 inches hole in the wall. That and some drywall tape and nails... So that's why I recomended the site. As for you with powertools... I'm out of here! :runningsmiley:
OK boys and girls. Smugglers will most likely restart today since it is very early in the day still and I am already drinking (5th shot of Cuervo in the last 20 minutes) I have stats from some of you and character concepts from all. I will probably beging the Intro and lead in stuff today so please supply me with stats or you will all be 1st level commoners with no hope of survival . But seriously I am startin to feel pretty much in the bag. I feel sorry for you poor bas****s who signed up to have me decide the fates of your character creations.
"GAME ON!"
I will start an IC thread and a new OCC when I am ready. Look for it in the next say couple hours.
11:45 is perfect time. I mean it's not even 9am here yet, most people still gettin ready for work or something. But yes you guys may be in for a bit of a problem. Or you might just not understand a darn thing I'm typing. We shall see. And just to Update it is now 7 shots and the 12 pack of MGD has been broken into. ( I know mgd and cuervo don't mix but by the time I wanted some corona to chase it with I glanced at the thread and was reminded not to drink and drive, especially when school buses are on the prowl.)
And not to sound like a mod, but I think if you guys (us guys) want to continue this line of conversation, we ought to pack up and head over to C&M...we shouldn't be getting credit for these posts, and its grossly off-topic.
I'm kinda tired, so I won't be posting an Info Update right now.
This is just to let you all know that Rebel Group 1 is about to restart, and with our group currently at three players, I'm accepting 1-2 new players. I'm also gonna set up a thread in the InfoNet, which I'll link to this thread and vice versa. But before you go nuts, there are stipulations:
1) Do not, I repeat DO NOT postcharacter ideas, stats, or "dibs" on the thread. The only thing that should be posted is questions, which I will try to answer promptly.
2) This game is my game. And as such, I'm running it as I feel best for the game and current players. This means that this player addition is not first come, first serve. I'll accept character concepts and stats (via PM or email ONLY), until I find the right player(s) for the game. No hard feelings toward those not chosen, but again, I've got the game's best interests at heart.
3) These rules are subject to change. I may add or alter stipulations as issues arise, however, I think everyone's mature enough to avoid such things, and I just have this here as a backstop.
Now...
...
any questions?
Who you got so far- because I'm considering completing my conquest of the Q:TU universe (Smugglers don't count ).
Actually, a bunch of games I was in have died due to MIA GMs, so I'm actually only down to IIRC Four games (I need more MORE! )
PM me if you are interested in joining. Concepts are good but please do not flood the OOC: Mercinaries with concepts or dibbs. PM with your ideas and requests I will review your stats to try to catch minor oversights and typos, but major errors and/or violations of the Quadrant house rules will most likely not get you considered.
Merc's for hire is the thread were you can ask questions.
The 5 groups thing is more of taking one huge game campaign idea and carving it up into smaller seperate groups, each with its own GM, and individual missions and such. Anything that major happens in one group may be relayed as news or events across to the other groups. There's also some plans for the occasional pair or join groups together at the same time & place once in a while. A person could have multiple characters, in in each group of choosing. We've got a few players like that. And as by my own example, I play in RG1 and co-gm RG2.
When you make a character, you only need to make sure it fits close enough to the group you have joined / wanting to join. Some pointers would be reading up on the IC thread of that group to see where they've started from and where they're currently at. In some cases, shuold you have a cool idea for a background, talk about it with the GM and he'll most likely work it in or suggest a slight modification or change.
Its probably a good idea to have one or couple character concepts / ideas in mind when you ask the gm about joining, as well as which classes / multiclasses your thinking of.
The only other important thing or two I can think of and can't stress heavily enough is - these games can get fairly active in a week's course, and can easily slow down for days at a time. Attendance: Checking in regularly into the game thread is important. Temporary absences do happen, usually best if notified in advance. We've had people who sign up to play or GM, run with the show for a while then totally drop off the radar indefinately. They're characters usually end up as NPC's or until the GM fades them out. In the case of a GM, if there's no active co-gm, then the group gets disbanded, or is left hanging and needing a new gm... (happened to mercinaries & imperials before, and also to RG1 before it gotten resurected.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OKaaaaaay....
It's been a very long time since one of these. That said, I haven't changed anything (well...almost nothing), as the things you've said since the last one may already no longer apply. I'd like the GMs (and only the GMs, in the case of active groups), to post changes here.
That said, I have an idea that has the potential to affest the entire group, though I'll want confirmation of active groups/GMs and individual updates before I suggest anything new....

Yes indeedy. I was gonna wait till right before Christmas, but I guess this works too.
As a Christmas present from...well...the GMs I guess, ALL current Quadrant players will level up. Pending approval from GMs:
All players will get 1 standard level.
Players who have been around for an extended period of time (at least 6 months, IMO...GMs?) get a second level.
Pending GM approval...players who've been with the thing since the beginning get a third.
What do the GMs think on this arrangement?

Well as one of the 'old' members of the new Mercenary group (actually this group is only compared to the other groups new) I'd say:
Go for it!
Nonetheless I'd like to hear djas opinion on the topic. BTW, where is he? ;-)

I was in the original Smugglers over six months ago, was not an original player, but Smugglers died. then came back. But I have been here for more than six months on a QTU thread, so does that count for the second level up?
I think it does, but I'm obviously and blatantly biased on the subject.

I guess so. I haven't seen any complaints.
My only problem is that Smugglers seems to have fallen off the rails again just before the first major combat scene (again) so I may need to wait a few months for v3 (again.) I hope not.
Anyways, seeing as the QTU status stuff hasn't been updated in a bit, does anyone have room for another player? I need another campaign to sate my roleplaying appetite even if Smugglers is just on a Christmas Holidays break.

The college I will be attending is Pierce County Community College of Puyallup. I will be starting summer quarter as I will be taking off most of spring to relax and get my EMT recertification for Washington State. Other than that I’ll be pretty much free to write on this site.

Psycho, I feel your pain. I GM a non-QTU game here, and for some reason, it went on another break! Nyaarggg! But, oh well, I won't let it get to me. I won't push the players, especially since it is the holidays.
But, there are always different things for me to do, more stories to write, other RPGs to play, etc etc etc...

To Psycho: Patience eager one
Holidays indeed. Many people have relations who've come in from long distances, as well theres many who travel to their relations... Give it another week or two, then post some encouraging messages in the ooc rooms and maybe p.m anyone else who's yet to show up after that...
Theres lots of things to do, if one looks abroad:
Make good use of this time to relaxe, get caught up on any GM'ing duties... further plan out more Game Story.... Heck, find a few good rpg threads and read them from the beginings. Do alot of reading in the GM forum also, lots of excellent stuff there for ideas that may spark your imagination and should be written down and can be incorporated into your campaign.
likewise, theres also a few fan sourcebooks being worked on right now, who could always use another hand/volunteer for stuff to be worked on. theres a few for sure in the d20 forum.
Theres also the sw books / novels. if you havn't read each and every one, bookstore (new or used) or libraries are good choices to dive into some good reading. Pretty easy to sit down on the sofa or bed, open a book and let several hours pass by at a time.
Theres some good fan-fiction to be read in these very forums, Donovan Morningfire's works come to mind.
Try your hand at writing some fan fiction, and post it in the fan-fiction section. It'll improve your campaign story telling / writing skills while your at it... wite about past campaigns you've been in, featuring your character. and its best to try write it in similar fashion as novels are written in.
words of wisdom though: don't get yourself into too many things while its slow. when things pick up you'll be over your head neck deep, and all games & projects will suffer from it.

ok, since its been decided "Quadrant" as a whole is doing 3 levels max for those who started with the respective groups...
no jedi levels yet right? i've got 1 or 2 force adepts / sensitives in the group, and just asking incase the question crops up.
Or what exactly is the decision regarding those with force adept levels or force sensitive feat?
:adendum:
And what of prestige class levels? Some players may opt to choose that route, being level4 now and a 3 level hike is enough for some prestige classes for a level or two within them...

As one of the few who has Force Adept levels I just wanted to say that Lyn (my character) is not evolving towards the Jedi path of the Force. But nonetheless I'd like to know about PrC ( and In my case especially Mystic Agent PrC).
cold told me once via messenger that it's GM decission. But I'm curious if there is an overall agreement about the PrC. Furthermore I'd like to know if a IC-background event has to occure before the PrC can be taken (f.e. Bounty Hunter PrC = joining the Bounty Hunter's guild).
Just me questioning...

I don't think its dead, I'm not even particularly impatient.
And for the record:
I read all of Donovan's fan fics (and commented on them) months ago. I'm writing a fanfic and have PMed a couple people to try and find a proofreader or seven. I've visited everybody in my family.
As I said, if all the campaigns I'm in were at ful throttle, I'd still want another one.
Anyways, on to something that really matters; the topic of discussion.
I'd like to know about the whole Jedi thing too...

OKAY!
PrCs: As far as I'm concerned, any and all relevant PrCs could be allowed, however, there SHOULD be IC reason for them. While a bounty hunter type character may take the PrC without joining the guild, I wouldn't want to see the group's slicer taking a level.
Jedi: As is clearly stated in the rules, FA characters MAY multiclass into Jedi levels AFTER TWO LEVELS of advancement, meaning, at this point, only the original members will have the necessary three levels to take their first Jedi levels. Even more important than the PrCs, Jedi levels should have VERY clear IC reasoning, as this isn't intended as a Jedi game, and these individuals should be very rare indeed.
Now...the Christmas level-ups apply to all the groups. Each member of every group. This also means that the Christmas level up should be the ONLY form of level advancement among the players in Q:TU. For the purposes of game balance, no GMs should give the members of their group any sort of level bonuses or stat-advancement other than the officially sanctioned group-wide advancements.
That is all. Thank you.

PrC's: I agree it has to be sensible for the character.
Example: Vooko will likely pick up Starfighter Ace once the prereq's are met (probly lvl 8, IIRC he's still the only Q:TU character that wasn't maxed-out on levels, etc. at the start). It makes less sense at this point for him to take Naval Officer, and none at all for things like Crime Boss & Groundpounder PrC's.
Jedi: Best have a really good explanation how to get the training when the only 2 ppl known capable are either dead, or hiding in one of the most obscure places in the Galaxy & Presumed Dead by Everybody.
Holocrons & such are amazingly rare, and there's almost no way we'd have several popping up across the galaxy at almost the same exact time (for the Force-Sensitves in RG1, RG2, Smugglers, etc.) would be absurd unless they were disguised Sith Holocrons set as bait by Palpatine to see if he could trap himself some FS that the Inquisitors & Hunters failed to find. He does have the ability to easily do so & motive isn't too tough either.
Level-ups. While I may personally disagree from a GM's standing about Mandatory Leveling (IMHO the characters get levels when the GM decides they deserve them, not from some artifice like having acquired a certain amount of Experience Points or Time in Play), making it across-the-Ubergroup/game is fair.
IMHO things like Jedi Levels & individual Level-ups should either be handled with Majority Agreement of the GM Council or passed up the chain like the military. In this case to Cold (as UberGM) would need to decide what's best for the campaign & players as a whole. He couldn't decide things unilaterally for RG1, and any such issue would hopefully be passed around his subordinate Officers (Group GMs) for comment before the Final decision is made.
Example: You have one player in a game who's not currently very involved, so you have someone run them through a side adventure. Once they come back to the table, you learn that they've either gone well beyond, or been kept behind the group & game as there wasn't communication or coordination between the GM for the whole game & the one running the individual adventure. Now you have to jump either the group up to be on par with the one PC, or vice versa.
For Q:TU, imagine the Imps game hadn't gone under, but had completed several missions by the time everyone was ready for the Co-Op/Head-to-Head Tattooine Vacation. The Imps are several levels ahead of anyone else, and the overall game skews. Either the Imps are held back to keep them from crushing anyone in their way, or the other groups are suddenly and unrealistically pumped up to give the Imps a decent challenge.
It's better to maintain commo & control now, then have to jump through hoops later to keep the overall game fair & fun for everyone.

Sorry, Psych, I'll remember that next time.
VC, I disagree a bit with your leveling up theory. I mean, it's not that it's wrong, I'm just not so sure about it. I mean, XP are great and everything, but shouldn't leveling up be more story based? More of when a character truly deserves the bonus, instead of a mechanically determined time. I dunno, but I believe characters should advance when it would best serve the story, not just because they acquired "this much XP points". And maybe this isn't story-based, but I think Cold must have some reason related to a story for this. Probably because everything is going to get tougher soon...
And dude, please, knock it off with the ideas. Palpatine is nutzy enough already.
